The gum wrappers. Bubble gum wrappers=prophecy? Could Alice be trying to tell Neville something about the prophecy?

I think their story will continue in the next book. There has to me a lot more to tell.

They're faking it? hardly. the Longbottoms wouldn't abandon their son and have him think they're insane just so they could spy! i think they really are insane but not incurably. they're definitely going to have a big role in the next books.

I agree with Maja. And remember they were tortured into insanity be Barty Crouch, so it would be very difficult to organise it afterwards, if they were going to pretend.

You know that thing where one person says a word and another person says whatever comes to mind first? What if we did that starting off with bubble gum wrappers. It might reveal a connection to the prophecy. It's a longshot, but it's an idea.

Have you ever considered working for the police, solving murders and stuff? You'd be brilliant.

I don't believe the Longbottoms are undercover, but it is quite possible that underneath their veil of insanity they are deep inside their own subconscious trying to get a message out to their son. Then again, they may not be...
