Move over, Paris, there's a new leading lady steaming up the Internet: Cameron Diaz (news).

Before she was an A-list star of Shrek, There's Something About Mary and Charlie's Angels, Diaz displayed some decidedly un-angelic behavior in a salacious S&M video shot back in 1992. That video, at the center of a contentious, ongoing legal battle between Diaz and the man who filmed it, hit the Web Wednesday and is rapidly becoming the download du jour.

Titled She's No Angel: Cameron Diaz, the 30-minute film shows the then-19 model baring her breasts and getting kinky in a softcore photo session for cameraman John Rutter.

Now 31 and a Tinseltown powerbroker, Diaz had wanted to keep a lid on the footage. She and Rutter have been battling for nearly a year. For his part, Rutter claims Diaz signed off on a valid release at the time it was shot. Hollywood's highest-paid actress, however, says the signature was forged and accuses the shutterbug of trying to blackmail her for $3.3 million in exchange for not releasing the titillating pics.

Too late. The film is available for purchase via download for $39.95 at Scandal-Inc.com and bootlegs are already circulating on file-sharing sites like KaZaA and Grokster.

According to the New York Post, the video features Diaz topless and in fishnets. She and a leather-clad model named Natasha are vamping it up in a bondage scene with a chained man wearing nothing but a loose-fitting loincloth. At one point, the twosome toy with their male "slave," making him wear a black leather bondage mask and pretending to subjugate him.

In another notable moment, Diaz gets down and dirty, prancing around topless while Rutter (doing his best Austin Powers' impersonation) barks orders like, "Attitude!," "Strut it, baby!," "I want you hot and sexy!" and "Cat-like! Cat-like!"

Finally, in the climax, Diaz sprays a can of compressed air on her boobs and giggles: "Whoa! Look at them! Look at how big they got!"

According to some early online reviews, the Diaz display isn't exactly in the same league as Shrek 2. "You've seen better acting in the Paris Hilton video," opines the blog fleshbot.com, noting that Diaz appears in only two-thirds of the video and is only bra-less in one-third. Defamer.com, meanwhile, says "You're better off using a copy of Charlie's Angels as a self-love aid than wasting $40 on the Diaz video."

Shortly after going live with the video, Scandal-Inc.com posted a message on its site saying it's unable to show the trailer due to heavy traffic.

Diaz furious over S&M video

A 12-year-old, soft-core video of a topless Cameron Diaz has emerged on the internet, showing the Charlie's Angels star engaging in some light but definitely un-angelic S and M play.

The footage of Diaz, who has since become one of Hollywood's highest-paid stars, was shot in 1992 by photographer John Rutter, who has been locked in a long legal battle with the actress over the material.

A download of the 30-minute video, which has a topless, fishnet stocking-clad Diaz vamping it up with another woman and a man, was being offered for $US40 ($56) by a Russian-registered website, Scandal-inc.com.

Diaz was 19 and trying to break through as a model when she made the video, in which she "walks" a leather-clad male model on a leash.

In another notable moment, Diaz prances around topless while Rutter barks orders like, "Attitude!," "Strut it, baby!," "I want you hot and sexy!" and "Cat-like! Cat-like!"

Finally, in the climax, Diaz sprays a can of compressed air on her boobs and giggles: "Whoa! Look at them! Look at how big they got!"

The star had previously accused Rutter of seeking to extort around $US3 million ($4.17 million) by threatening to release the tape and some accompanying still photos.

According to the star's spokesperson, Diaz won a court injunction last year prohibiting anyone from selling, distributing or commercially exploiting the material.

She can't hide from it. She did it. If she made it, no matter how long ago and signed a contract for it to be released then the guy who filmed it has the right to release. Just because she got famous and feels it's beyond her now shouldn't matter. If she didn't want it to haunt her if she became famous, she shouldn't have done it.

Getting caught naked
July 19, 2004 - The Sun-Herald

As Cameron Diaz has discovered, old roles come back to haunt you in Hollywood, writes Rachel Browne.

For someone usually only too keen to spruik her work, Cameron Diaz has been surprisingly quiet about her latest venture to come to light.

A soft-core film featuring a topless, tousle-haired and fishnet stocking-clad Diaz engaging in light bondage emerged on the internet last week after the actress's long legal battle to keep it under wraps. For the Shrek 2 star with the squeaky-clean image, the 1992 film - made when she was a struggling teenage model - is a publicity nightmare.

But Diaz is not alone in her predicament. After all, long before they hire lawyers to enforce no-nudity clauses in their contracts, actors have to start off somewhere. And it's during the early days of their careers that they create the work they'd rather their fans didn't see.

Those familiar with Sylvester Stallone's oeuvre would expect to see Rocky, Rambo and even the child-friendly Spy Kids 3-D. What they won't see on Sly's CV is The Party At Kitty And Stud's, a 1970 porn film later renamed The Italian Stallion to capitalise on the success of Rocky. The Party At Kitty And Stud's makes Cameron's cavorting with a leather-clad man look positively tame.

Sly was 24 years old, broke and living in Hells Kitchen, New York, when the opportunity to play Stud arose. He was paid $US200 for his services, which included keeping a straight face while listening to lines such as, "I'll be velvet-mouthed on your shank of love."

One man who founded his artistic career on shanks of love was the late photographer Robert Mapplethorpe, who persuaded then-bodybuilder Arnold Schwarzenegger to pose for his cameras in 1976.

As Schwarzenegger was about to be voted in as the Governor of California last year, reports emerged of shocking nudes of the actor kept under lock and key at Mapplethorpe's estate.

But if Democrat dirt diggers were desperate to see shots of the Terminator star wearing nothing but body oil and a pensive stare, they should have looked no further than a 1977 issue of US gay magazine After Dark.

Working with photographer Jack Mitchell, Schwarzenegger posed for 22 homo-erotic pictures described as having "maximum sex appeal for [the magazine's] gay demographic".

Around the same time as Schwarzenegger was flexing his pecs for the camera, another soon-to-be-famous entertainer also decided to meet her rent by working as a nude model.

Then a dancer, Madonna disrobed for Martin Schreiber's photography class in New York and was paid $US10 an hour for her effort.

The grainy black-and-white shots later resurfaced in a 1985 edition of Playboy, which was reportedly one of the highest-selling issues ever.

Clearly noting that there is money in bare flesh, the material girl later went on to produce her own series of nude shots in the coffee table book Sex.

But while those early nude photos helped Madonna cultivate her sex-vixen image, the same can hardly be said for someone with Diaz's vanilla image.

However, leading Sydney casting agent Toni Higginbotham said Diaz's popular appeal would outweigh any damage done by the video.

"I don't think it will affect her career at all," she said. "Someone like Cameron Diaz has a very high profile and is a very successful actor. I don't think any Hollywood casting director would say, 'No, let's not hire Cameron because of this video.'

"If anything, she might attract public sympathy because she made the video a long time ago and could argue that the photographer took advantage of her.

"We all have pasts. I think if people like Cameron Diaz, they will go out and see her latest blockbuster regardless.

"She would have to do something pretty shocking before it would have any impact on her career."

However, Higginbotham acknowledges that if the same situation arose with a less-established performer, it would be a very different story.

"If it was a lower profile actress, it might work against her by tarnishing her image," she said. "People might be reluctant to cast her because she could be seen as damaged goods, so to speak."

Indeed, former porn star Traci Lords fought for years to overcome her tainted reputation.

She spent six years in the adult industry, making close to 100 films - with colourful titles such as Lust In The Fast Lane, The Night Of Loving Dangerously and Sex Fifth Avenue - before maverick director John Waters gave her a break, casting her opposite Johnny Depp in the 1990 film Cry-Baby.

Antonio Banderas fortunately had no such problems, as most of his raunchier films were made in Spain. Hollywood executives acknowledge that they do things a bit differently there.

Those who want to see what Banderas was up to before he became Mr Melanie Griffith should check out the first of his many films with director Pedro Almodovar. In the 1982 sex farce Labyrinth Of Passion, Banderas played a gay Islamic terrorist. Their final film together, Tie Me Up, Tie Me Down, featured Banderas as a mental patient who abducts a drug-addled porn star and keeps her tied to a bed until she falls in love with him.

While Banderas's initial collaborations with Almodovar are recognised by many film buffs as absurdist masterpieces, the same cannot be said for much of the early work of our best-known stars.

While they have avoided overheated sex romps, there is no doubt many of them have been victims of teens-ploitation.

Fifteen years before picking up a samurai sword in Kill Bill, a then 17-year-old Uma Thurman was persuaded to star in Kiss Daddy Goodnight, a so-called erotic thriller in which she plays a baby-faced femme fatale who seduces older men only to drug and rob them.

It certainly wasn't her finest cinematic moment.

And before Angelina Jolie won an Academy Award for Girl, Interrupted, she played a half-human, half-robot temptress designed to charm her way into rival manufacturers' headquarters before self-detonating in Cyborg 2.

It's definitely not a role Jolie likes to reflect upon these days.

And while Brad Pitt may have risen to fame in a pair of tight jeans and a cowboy hat in Thelma And Louise, only two years earlier he made the very forgettable slasher flick Cutting Class for the princely sum of $US11,000.

But you can be sure, had he appeared in an erotic video like Diaz, it would probably be his most-viewed work to date.

Diaz blackmailer faces jail

The photographer who demanded Cameron Diaz pay him £2million for topless pictures he took of her when she was a struggling model has been convicted of forgery, theft and perjury

A Los Angeles Superior Court jury of seven women and five men delivered the guilty verdict on its second day of deliberations, less than two weeks after photographer John Rutter, 42, went on trial.

He was convicted of attempted grand theft, forgery for faking Diaz's signature on a model-release form, and perjury for lying in a sworn declaration that her signature was authentic.

An extortion charge against Rutter was dropped before the trial began. Sentencing was set for September 15. He faces a penalty of more than five years in prison.

Rutter, who was free on bond during the trial, was taken directly into custody after the verdict.

Diaz, who testified during the trial, was not in court when the verdict was returned.

Rutter took the photos of a bare-breasted Diaz in May 1992 when she was an unknown 19-year-old model, then confronted the Charlie's Angels star with the pictures 11 years later, indicating he had buyers around the world willing to pay $5million for them.

In testimony, Diaz recounted a June 2003 meeting between Rutter, herself and their lawyers in which the photographer demanded she pay him £2million in two days to buy back the photos.

Rutter's lawyer sought to portray the case against his client as an attempt by a 'rich and powerful movie star ... seeking to crush and destroy John Rutter' and 'forever bury' embarrassing photographs he had taken.

Yes......... I'm always worried movie stars are attempting to destroy me too. I know Woody Allen has my place under surveillance, and Brad Pitt's been making crank phone calls to my place for years.

Exactly, yet another celebrity-smacks-forhead moment. Just don't do that ****. Fact.
