WASHINGTON (AP) -- The Republican-led House bowed to a White House veto threat Thursday and stood by the USA Patriot Act, defeating an effort to block the part of the anti-terrorism law that helps the government investigate people's reading habits.

Portions of it will be repealed if Kerry is elected in November.

The Patriot Act will not protect you, it just lets law enforcement intrude in your lives more. Explain why we need the Patriot Act is needed if we already had all the information on the terrorists behind 9/11 before the attack? I look at the failure of law enforcement as more on their coordination and prioritization, rather than their inability to gather intel.

The same thing occured with the CIA and Iraq; they had all the intel, they just interpreted incorrectly.

The Patriot Act is already being abused anyway so it needs to be curbed or repealed completely, but that won't happen under Kerry or Bush. As a person with an Arabic first name, I don't want to be unneccessarily targeted.

House Refuses to Curb Patriot Act: Vote a Victory for Bush...

And a defeat for Americans.

Just like the 3 strikes law was supposed to be used against violent criminals, it has been used against people charged with stealing a slice of pizza, the unPatriot Act runs the risk of being used against the citizens of the US.

Those who would give up an essential liberty for temporary security, deserve neither liberty or security. --- Ben Franklin

That's the spirit, h@ts!

Whenever I see a h@ts post it reminds me of Benny Hill—and that always brings me a good chuckle. For that I am ever grateful to you, h@ts. Hark, I hear the Benny Hill tune once again… ta ta ta ta ta ta ta ta ta ta ta ta ta ta ta…
