| Brando cremated in secret funeral
Hollywood legend Marlon Brando was cremated in a private funeral on Monday in Los Angeles, his lawyer has said.
David Seeley said he did not know any of the details of the ceremony and knew of no plans for a memorial service.
"All I can tell you is... anything that's going to occur in the future is a private family matter," he said.
The reclusive star died of lung failure at the UCLA Medical Center in Los Angeles on Thursday evening, according to a hospital spokeswoman.
Mr Seeley said Brando's family were keeping any future plans "under a closed, need-to-know basis".
He also dismissed media reports that Brando had left behind precise, taped instructions for how he wanted to be remembered.
Denial
One report suggested the actor had requested that a final service be led by his friend and neighbour Jack Nicholson and that his ashes would be scattered over the Tahitian atoll he bought in 1966.
"None of that is true as far as I'm aware," said Mr Seeley.
"He left a will that's going to be pobated, and that's the document that's going to control how everything gets distributed."
Mr Seeley said Brando, who died aged 80, was not married at the time of his death.
He added that the star had had nine children, including those he had adopted and his deceased daughter, Cheyenne, who committed suicide in 1995.
Brando received eight Oscar nominations during his lifetime - all for best actor apart from his most recent nod in 1990 for A Dry White Season, which was for best supporting actor.
His two Oscar wins were for On the Waterfront and The Godfather.
The other nominations were for Last Tango in Paris (1973), Sayonara (1957), Julius Caesar (1953), Viva Zapata! (1952) and Streetcar Named Desire (1951). | |
