XP Problem d:\is not a valid win32 application

i just installed XP pro on a friends computer. however, when i insert a cd in the cdrw, i get the error message

d:\is not a valid win32 application

it doesnt matter what cd i put in, i get that error.

can anyone help me?

does it just do this when it tries to autorun a cd? if you hold down shift after you insert a cd it should bypass autorun. do you still get the error? if so, then after you close out the error message can you browse the cd directory? if you just double click the drive you might get the error again, so make sure you are in windows explorer and explore the cd directory from the left hand window of windows explorer to see what's on the cd.

Or try this ,
Just remove the cdrom from the machine and boot Win XP once and then install it again.
