i just wanted to state that a lot of white folk believe black youths to be thugs but in ireland there are plenty of thugs and not one of them is black! it is an interesting point. it proves their are a lot of hypocritical people out there.

a lot of black youths thinks they are thugs:

they grew up in a air-conditioned town-home in Northern Virginia with a washer and dryer, high quality tap water, a seemingly endless supply of hot water, 4 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms.

wearing 2 hundred dollar shoes, 100 dollar jeans, 60 dollar tshirt. Their parents gave them a 4 year old "used" car with a grand total of 30000 miles on it...

the school system is exceptional (they live a 10 minute bus ride from an International Bacculeaureate school, but they have a car so they don't need to take the bus)

there's hardly any crime... Saturday morning cartoons and field trips to the White House and Smithsonian Museum are hardly a "hard-knock" life

yet somehow they consider themselves "held down" and thugs.

but you wanna know why? cuz that's what they see on TV. Really they are spoiled yuppies, they just happen to have dark skin.

I don't think hypocritical is the word your looking for there. It's more a sterotype.

no prob

Yes, it gets more and more disturbing everyday because I'm coming to the realization that we are a society composed of morons, for the majority. I did have hope there for a while.

You do bring up an interesting point. But the problem is sterotypes are always gonna be there. Blondes are stupid, the Irish are drunks, blacks are thugs, girls who talk about sex are sluts, guys that talk about sex are studs, I think you get my point.

It sucks, and it's unfair, and it happens to the large majority of people, yet they can't seem to drop their preconcieved notions of the way people are and realize you cant just lump everyone in one big group or the other.

and i have the perfect two examples that are personal:

1. im blonde and get called a dumb blonde and a bimbo all the time, from people who dont give me a chance or get to know me at all.
2. because i am into black music and the black culture people think im one of those white folk that hate white people and that only like a certain race which is not true at all.

I'm a blond, Irish drunk guy who likes to talk about sex - what does that make me, stereotypically speaking?

Anyway, I'm one of those white folks who has been known to have contempt for other whites, but no more so than the trashy types found in every social group. I've spoken on this matter here to the tune of a broken record, so I'll keep it short and say: yes, stereotypes suck. Yes, they've been around and will probably continue to be for some time to come. But I desperately hope that one day education will prevail amongst the human race. Because despite our cultural differences there really is only one race of humanoids on this planet. I sure hope one day everyone can find a way to see through superficial differences.

Can you imagine the turmoil that the animal kingdom would be in if, for example, cattle would only "hang out" with other cattle that have the same color patterns in their fur?

indeed, despite our differences, we all share certain things in common

I guess that would make you a stupid drunk stud?

Well put! Why is it I can never seem to get my point across right but then someone comes along a few posts later and posts exactly what I was trying to say? Good Job.

Sean does nothing to dispel the stereotype of the drunk Irish. Not that anyone in Ireland does either Just like us beer-gutted, Fosters drinking, slack-jawed speaking Aussies, those smelly Mexicans, freeloading Canadians, croaking French, buck-toothed English, ungrateful Iraqis, sneaky Japanese, angry Germans, weasely Italians, greasy Greeks.... well... that's all I can think of at the moment.

I dunno what this is about anyways, I never see black people and think that bloke must be a thug. Except dekka. That dude is harsh. Wouldn't wanna meet him in a dark alley
