let me just speak in "proper English" before I get judged too.........

all i have to say is the fact that you said b2k sucks too, heck was unnecessary, that has nothing to do with the issue at hand, neo brought out some very valid points about racism today and how we as the young people today will deal with it in the future, this was the initial meaning of this post..........

also substituting certain words and phrases with shorter ones i.e 2=too, cud=could, h8-hate, etc does not express stupidity or a lack of education, these days on the internet alot of people do this, i dont think you understand but it is used as a shorter form to type quicker and easier, i think you should get used to it from now because you will probably be seing alot more of it here on the net

And also i have observed the lack of character on this board, no smileys, no fun, no warm feeling, THIS is the difference between this board and the b2k board

Well, maybe it's easier to type, but harder to read. Think about the people who read your posts...

I really don't want to get used to reading slang, because to me that'll just show how much society and education is degrading I find it harder to type that kind of slang than I do typing in a normal way. I believe if people practice typing in one or another way, it becomes increasingly easy to type in that form, no matter how few letters they have to type per word. I think letting yourself get too accustomed to this kind of slang typing is really a downer, because you're holding yourself back.

btw, Blue, I just read Neo's last post and he/she was nothing but insulting. HECk is more than justified in pointing out that B2K tend to drink from straws (oh thank you Larke, for that chestnut )

Ms Blue, I never implied you or the other B2K users were uneducated nor am I judging anyone. Far from it. You're jumping to conclusions.

It's obvious some, most, or all of you type that way on purpose to have fun or create some kind of persona. Nothing wrong with that, and I really don't care. I was merely saying that I think it's annoying. Hence the reason I don't post in the B2K forum. Once the slang typing ventured out into General Discussion, I said my peace about it and was going to be done with it. It was really a non-issue.

You're a little quick to defend yourself about it, battling the notion that you're uneducated, when you're the person that brought up education in the first place.

The topic here was racism. I went off-topic and brought up the slang typing. Two different issues. You are merging race and slang typing, which for my purposes didn't have anything to do with the other. It seems to me that you and the previous poster are implying that those who type slang are of color since racism was tied in with it. Like I said before, I don't have clairvoyance enough to discern one's skin color based on words on a computer screen. Nor do you know my ethnicity, either. Lil Neo could have posted about flowers or bowling balls, I would have brought up the slang typing regardless. Understand?

And as far as lack of character, I would suggest you browse the rest of the site. I have come to know that there is a tremendous amount of character throughout IR. Don't judge a forum by a single thread. And a dozen smilies in a post doesn't make it that more personable, to me.

My B2K sucks comment was my personal opinion, more tongue-in-cheek than anything, just trying to make a joke. Those that know me can attest to that. Regardless, you are correct, it didn't have anything to do with the topic. It’s just my sense of humor.

I look forward to seeing you in other threads and discussing other topics.

I think that some of yalls responces are to long. All I have to say is that Racism is not good cause everyone is equal. It really doesn't matter where you are from or what religion you are.

I think there's a difference between racism and discrimination. Racism is a FORM of discrimination, but actual discrimination encompasses a lot of areas.

It's also important to point out that discrimination is not what happened in here when HECK posted that post about lil neo's way of typing. That wasn't discrimination, that was displeasure in seeing the english language gutted and ripped to shreds right before HECK's eyes.

HECK might not be black, but I am, and I feel the exact same way about the slang as HECK does, even though I use a lot of that same slang in my daily life, when I'm with friends, at home, whatever. But I also know that I have a very strong grasp of the english language, and I enjoy using it properly, especially because I can't stand to see it massacred. There's a lot of logic in language, and my brain works very logically, so I'm told, so seeing illogical words makes me literally shudder. I can't understand how people think that writing phonetically for the way that they speak slang is better than typing properly. And nobody can tell me that it's because typing in slang is EASIER than typing in proper form. It might have started out that way, but I'm not dumb enough to fall for the "it's an easier way to type" line. Now, it's about expressing street cred -- over the internet... I personally think it's a waste of time, but I also remember a time when I did something like that in a less radical form when I was younger, so I have hope that others will grow out of it eventually. Youth will be youth.

Now, back to racism. I find that racism is a form of discrimination that may be one of the most difficult to eradicate. Everyone here should watch the movie Crash to get an idea of why I say that.

You pass me on the street and sneer in my direction.

But when I call you, "******", "Kike", "Towelhead", "Sand-******", "Camel Jockey", "Beaner" or "Chink" you call me a racist.

You are proud to be black, brown, yellow and orange, and you're not afraid to announce it.
But when we announce our white pride, you call us racists.

You call each other "*****s", but when we call you that, you call us racists.

You rob us, carjack us, and shoot at us.
But, when a white police officer shoots a black gang member or beats up a black drug-dealer running from the law and posing a threat to society, you call him a racist.

I am an American.

But, you call me a racist.
Why is it that only whites can be racists?
