Wow... 4,700 characters? Holy crap.... I had NO IDEA that there were that many characters... That's an INSANE amount. And here I was struggling to develop a storyline that included 18 majors and about 40 minors...

yep.... that is alot. And most of those characters revolve around two primary groups/people.

The X-Men, and spiderman.

Yeah...I mean think about it...20 years ago...it was all about Spider-Man, Avengers, X-Men, Fantastic Four, Captain America, Alpha Flight, who else???
