After years of turmoil Iraq eventually vote in a democratic government who nationalise the oil and other assets and use the wealth for the benefit of the Iraqi people, upsetting American interests. The CIA move in and fund and train a fundamentalist Islamic or right-wing militia to first undermine the government and then overthrow it and seize dictatorial power, torturing and killing thousands of Iraqis for years to come.

Ask people if this happens and many would say, don't be stupid, no way! But as history shows it happens all too frequently. Thing is, we'll be fighting China by then so who will gives a **** about Iraq?

Hey, maybe they will. Time will tell. I personally doubt it though. The US has far more to gain by simply letting the Iraqi people decide what they want and not interfering, and as you have mentioned, the US have a habit of doing what is best for them. That's not a crime mind you, but it is when it leads to the suffering of others, as has been the case in the past.

Take a look at democratic Venezuela. There was a failed CIA backed coup there just last year. Venezuela is a democracy and the American administration is trying to destroy it.

So anyone who argues that the days of America overthrowning democracies in South America and replacing them with brutal dictators is a thing of the past is deluding themselves.

It's hardly supporting democracy for the Americans to side with the minority rich Venezuelans rather than the majority poor.

Then again it must be comforting for the rich Venezuelans to think the Americans will do all they can to stop the poor from having a decent share of it's own countries wealth.
