Wizards use coins called Bronze Knuts, Silver Sickles, and Gold Galleons.

Money is usually kept at Gringotts the Wizarding bank in Diagon Alley that is run by Goblins.

Coversions of money. According to Hagrid "The gold ones are Galleons. Seventeen silver Sickles to a Galleon and twenty-nine Knuts to a Sickle, it's easy enough."

OR 1 Galleon = 17 Sickles = 493 Knuts.

JKR said that a Galleon is worth about 5 pounds. That would make Sickles about L.29
and Knuts about L.01

For the Americans, roughly $7.00 for a Galleon. (I think)
