Man, I loved Ronald Reagan. He was president during my teenage years.

I felt true pride in the man.

Here's to you Mr. President.

Sweet memorial Whidden. I will always look fondly toward Mr. Reagan, and I feel he was a superb leader with qualities we could sure use right about now. I am proud to have served under him. Good bye Ronnie, you will be forever remembered and missed. Thank you for your contributions my man.

He served 81' to 89' right??? I was just a kid then...6 when he started...not quite 15 when he finished...yet I still remember a lot about him!
Whidden knows that I am in the military...and truth be known...I AM NOT a real patriotic sort of person...several people on here know that!...
however...I would have gladly served under the man...he was one of the few Presidents that I can call a real Man. He was a take action...no tip-toeing around sort of President...and THAT is what I respect!

Nah, I was being serious. Aside from the Iran-Contra scadal, he was a fine president. Very smooth. I liked him a lot.

But, I do feel that Bush was pulling a lot of strings. That's not for this forum though.

I salute the Gipper, he was a great man and a hero for our country. May he rest in peace.

I was never a big Reagan supporter, but he brought a true sense of patriotism back to the country. He loved this country and he was a great man, and a great husband to Nancy. I am sorry that he had to go through such a devistating illness. My condolences to his family.

Defense Investigative Service?

anyway, i was only 5 when Reagan took office. but i remember feeling so proud to be an American and so proud to have him as president. when i now think of what it means to be a strong leader or a great American or both, no one better defined the role than Ronald Wilson Reagan.

What am I stupid? Don't answer that I won't even pretend to know what it is. I thought he was in the Military.

I am watching the service now. Some very cool stuff.

The multi service paul bearers were slick.

I got nothing but good memories of Reagan. (The young right wing Christian-Republican I was!)

Even the weird stuff he did, I thought was cool. He tried to make ketchup count as a vegetable to save money on school lunches.

I was in school at the time and those vegetables sucked. I would have rather had ketchup!

I regret the fact that I was born during the tail end of his administration, and thusly didn't really get to know the man. However, his accomplishments and obviously upstanding character speak volumes. Indeed, Here's to Reagan.
May he rest in peace, and may he never be forgotten.

I was very moved by George HW Bush's eulogy. I especially was touched by the story of Reagan in the hospital. Bush walks in and the President is on the floor mopping up water that had spilled. He did not want the nurse to get into trouble, so he did it himself. What a very sweet thing to do. Reagan touched people because he was a very nice man.

Yeah, I watched all last night while I was posting.

Made me very very emotional. Quite draining actually.

When Nancy started hugging the coffin, I felt really bad.

Thankfully, a new day today and I feel better.

This week has been a strange experience for me. Reagan fell off my radar when Bush senior took over. Thats the way they do it, the former president fades away so the new one is not upstaged.

I remember briefly hearing about his Alzheimer's in 94. I have heard bits and pieces of information about him in the news over the years.

But have not seen any interviews or nothing on the man since the late 80's.

So, all of a sudden this week, the coverage was absolutely overwhelming. Been seeing all these biography's and speeches and shots of his funny one liners.

Like opening up a time capsule.

I am very glad they gave him such a long impressive send off.

I was most shocked by Sam Donaldson. Sam used to do the most scathing reports on Reagan, and this week he had nothing but praise for the man.

Hey Fuscia, where is Simi valley at in relation to L.A.? The next time I get out to california, I would like to visit that library.

I think Simi Valley is North of L.A., but I am not sure. Sorry Dave.

There was one story about sometime after the Altzheimers had started to set it, but he was still up and about. He was out for a walk on the grounds accompanied by his Secret Service people. President Reagan bent over to pick a flower -- probably from a formal garden -- and one of the Secret Service guys said "Mr. President, you shouldn't pick that. "
And he replied, "But I want it for 'my lady'."

At the end, when Mrs. Reagan was caressing the casket she was saying "I just don't want to leave him."
( I was sobbing out loud.)

I feel very bad for her and think it will be very, very difficult for her when all the crowds disappear.

Nancy and Ronald really did have a great love. I feel very bad for her. They say that just before he passed that he stared right at her with a look of recognition. It was supposed to mean a lot to her. An alzheimers expert was on CNN and said that even at that late stage of the disease, there can be brief moments of recognition.

I have always liked President Reagan. I have to say though that all the coverage this week has brought back a lot of memories. I think I have more fondness and respect for him now than I ever did. The first president I remember being aware of was Carter.
What a great sense of humor President Reagan had. Also he seemed very courageous and had a great moral standard.
I love that picture of him on the horse. I will try to find a good one.

Those are some fine shots right there Sandy.

He is celebrating with Yahweh. There is no need for sorrow. Nancy and family seem to know this very well.
