Thread open to discuss things you disliked about POA.

I did not like the new director. The camera angles were very jerky in an effort to be more cutting edge. It did not seam well with the previous films. I think the splendor of Hogwarts was lost as well.

Don't get me wrong, I loved the movie, but there were things that I disliked about it too. Trust me, the day it comes out on DVD I will be watching it over and over again.

I liked it all, except:

The actor who replaced Richard Harris was a buffoon.

The amputated talking heads in the film. It didn't bother me, but I thought it was a little to gross if I had kids wanting to watch it.

Gary Oldman wasn't in the movie near as much as I thought he should be.

I kind of liked the shrunken head.

I did not like the way the new Dumbledore dressed. What is he a hippie now?

Posted by: gaboman

Dumbledore looks like a hippie on the cover of my Philosopher's Stone book, I always pictured him that way. I didn't like the presence of the new Dumbledore though...

The shrunken heads were alright. No major complaints with them, I guess the whole Knightbus scene was cool.

Umm... what didn't I like... hmm... The scene where the Fat Lady was missing, I thought it would be intense, but with her cowering behind those hippos... I didn't know if I should laugh or what...

Reply To this Message

Posted by: fuscia

That was lame about her hiding behind the hippos. I was hoping that Peeves would get his scene, but no.

Posted by: gaboman

Yeah, Peeves... now that's someone we need more of

And why was Goyle not hanging out with Draco and Crabbe? Who was the other kid?

Reply To this Message

Posted by: gaboman

Yeah, they probably couldn't get the actor back for the few scenes....

Reply To this Message

Posted by: fuscia

They should have left the other kid out then.

I was disappointed in the film overall. I had such high expectations for this movie, especially because it was my favorite of all the books.

There was no flow to this film. The transition from one scene to another seemed really rough. Just one cut after another.

I also thought the film didn't allow the new characters to develop. We barely got to see professor lupin and he was already Harry's best friend. What's up with that????

Plus the new Dumbledore just didn't feel right. He looked like he didn't belong.

I have yet to see the movie, but from the clips I thought Sir Michael Gambon did a good job. Maybe I need to watch the movie to get the full effect.

I never really liked Richard Harris as Dumbledore, even though I am a big fan of his acting. I suppose his age and cancer made him look (and sound) more frail than my image of Dumbledore.

Wow. I NEVER thought I would find someone who did not think RH was the perfect Dumbledore.

Let's see... where to begin.

I think that they left TOO much out of the film.
They made scenes too short, and left people who haven't read the book wondering what was going on.
They don't explain the Marauders Map, or who the four are. Then, Lupin takes the map, and knows what's going on. That should have been explained to the audience.
I don't like the new Dumbledore, or his "Hippie" self....
No explanation as to WHERE Goyle went to, or who that other kid was.

I know. For so many of us, he was exactly what we imagined. His raspy voice was perfect. He seemed so calm and cool. I loved how he would gaze over the top of his glasses and stare down the teachers or students.

I agree 100%. This new Dumbledore looked more like a substitute teacher. RH had a real quiet strength to him. He may sound old and weak, but when he wanted to assert himself, he made his voice boom loudly.

We are lucky to have read the books. And because we have, the movie still made sense. I felt really bad for those people who have never read the book and watching this movie for the first time. I have a sitting next to me kind of whispering in confusion cause they didn't know what the heck was going on.

POA could have been so much better.

Yes, I had to explain quite a few things to Heidi...

I'm worried about how much will be cut from the GoF, after seeing how much was cut from PoA.

Hopefully the rumors will be true about the next movie being much longer. It will be impossible for them to squeeze in all of the stuff that happens in the 4th book into a 2 1/2 hour movie.

By the way, what's up with Neville. I could hardly recognize him. These kids are growing out of control.

What did happen to the Rat guy. He just scampered off and that was the last of him.

And to stay on topic, I didn't like his teeth. Those rat teeth grossed me out big time.

The ratty friend will appear again Dave. Read the books.

Reply To this Message

Yeah, Dave, he'll come back for a bit of the next movie (at least he should.....) Maybe he'd have lost the ratty teeth by then... I mean, if you became a rat for so long it'd be hard to change back right away, I'd say

The movie was too short!

Let's rally for a longer, more complete GOF!! Don't the fans have a say?!

There was an online petition about a year ago that thousands of people signed that said that GOF HAD to be 4 hours.

And there's been NOTHING about how much they will cut from GoF, if they will split it with an intermission, nothing!

I haven't seen PoA yet, so can anyone tell me if the rumor that there is no quidditch in PoA is true or not?

M.

There is one Quiddich match in POA.

Nice. The one where the dementors come to 'enjoy the match' right?

It's really lame though... there's very little to it, and I've always enjoyed the Quidditch scenes.
Though, Harry racing from the Dementors was awesome.

Reply To this Message

Very short Quiddich scene, but it's the most intense would've been nice if they'd had a normal one too, but I loved it anyways...

I was very impressed with the look of the dementors. The special effects in the movie were awesome.

Two big thumbs up from me in that department.

I think they should have explained the Marauders Map. I also hated Malfoy's hair.

I didn't hate Draco's hair... but, he looked waaaaay different. Went from looking like a rich snot, to a cool jerk.

Good call Pip. I liked the old hair much better.

The old hair is how J. K. Rowling describes him. Slicked back. Plus it suits him more.

Yes it does suit him better. It also looks more like a hair cut that Lucius would approve of for his son.

I'm probably being totall bitter, bcos I'm going by my knowledge of the books here, but does anyone agree with me that the movie was totally rushed...? Like, they didnt even describe who moony, wormtail, etc were, or how lupin knew it was a map, bcos he wrote it, hence being moony, the werewolf. And how did Harry produce a patronus after about 2 attempts?? When they did show it as a stag, for like a second, they didnt explain why it was that form. And they didnt relate anything to trelawnys prediction, or really explain that pettigrew was likely to go back to the Big V.
And wasnt he supposed to get his firebolt earlier on..? There was not nearly enough tension towards sirius throughout that book. I dont know why, but when i read the book i loved that scene where theyre all in the shrieking shack (and snape comes in INVISIBLE) but the film showed it as a bit creaky... like a bad screechy record or something. all swayey and i foun it kinda hard to hand on to what they were saying... then it was suddenly all over.
Bits of that are just my own views of hogwarts that have been a bit crushed now... but ami rite in saying they missed a lot off essential info?????

And did anyone, when they read the book, imagine the dementors as creatures that could fly...........??

Pixieus, first off, welcome to INReview. I love seeing all you new people join up in the HP discussions. Enjoy your time here, and if you need any help, let me know, or fuscia (the other senior mod), or gaboman (monitor in HP).

Yes, the movie was very rushed, and "clippy" in many places. I hated that there weren't a lot of things explained either. A lot of people felt that way.

Yes, he was supposed to get the firebolt way earlier, with NO explaination of who it was from, and Hermione goes to McGonagall, and he has it taken away for some time. I HATED that they changed that.

Pixieus welcome to the forum.

People who did not read the book, like my husband, had no clue who Moony, Prongs, Padfoot, and Wortmail were. They also had no clue as to the significance of the Stag patronus. I also thought it was rushed. I did enjoy it, but the HP purist in me was cheesed off at them leaving out that information.

Oh, I never pictured Dementors as flying.

Reply To this Message

Posted by: Lawless

Sherry, I agree on that point. I didn't picture them flying either. They didn't in the books.
But, it was a really cool scene to watch anyway, don't you think? Made there more etheral to me.

There wasn't enough of Crookshanks in it either.

Reply To this Message

They had the same flying style as the squids in the Matrix. I thought it was kind of cool.

But, I have not read the books. I do hate that, when they change a bunch of stuff for the movie. They should know that most the their target audience is gonna want it how the book had it.

Well, the dementors glide a few inches above the ground... So I suppose to get them flying wasn't too much of a mutation.

Lol, hi! thanks for welcoming me to the forum... i think i've got the basic stuff sorted, but will let u know if it all becomes a bit scary...
Bit of a start there, but really wanted to voice my opinion! Yeah, the flying dementors did make it kind of eerily cool, must admit, and my way would have been most of the movie to my imagination... but it crushed my spirit a bit really cant wait for GOB tho, my fave book! (if that too doesnt crush my spirit...)

GOF should be awesome. I think that if it is done as a 4 hour movie, it will be wonderful.

THEY MUST NOT CUT THE GRAVEYARD SCENE IN GOF!!!! I'll be very disappointed if they do. That is probably one of the most important scenes in the series, so far.
