Fancy meeting the people you're arguing with?

Hi everyone. A short while ago I suggested how extraordinary it would be if, after the debate on this war comes to a close, the people in this forum met...for real. I was encouraged by some replies and I actually think that maybe this could actually be possible.
It'll be a chance to shake hands with the people you've been spitting venom at all these months, or to meet face to face someone you've admired on INreview. The debate has been as intense as the war. It has been slanderous as well as enlightening; insulting as well as constructive. I personally am frustrated by the views of some and no doubt they are frustrated by my views but I would like nothing more than to say at the end of the day - good debate!
I don't mean to make light of the war and turn this horrifying moment in history into a party, but I believe there would be something quite dignified in meeting up afterwards at some arranged time.
Let me know what you think! Is this crazy or could it work?

I had this thought in the shower the other day: one day, perhaps soon, we should spearhead an event that gets everyone (who cares to) together.

Of course - whether it occurs at a regional level or incorporates something much broader - determines the complexity of creating such an event or events.

It would be good to determine the interest and here some thoughts, indeed.

Please don't say things like that. Debaters in this forum are sitting hundreds of miles from each other without weapons or casualties. Right now, my cousin is on the front lines over there, and I think he'd agree that the front lines are a little more intense than sitting at a computer typing. I'm sorry, I just think your exaggeration is inappropriate and disrespectful.

(Yes, I know this is not specifically related to the thread, but I wanted to get it out there.)

I'm certain that he meant no disrespect. Best of luck to your cousin. My cousin's fiance is fighting for the Army Rangers over there as well. Things are looking up - they'll be back - and I'm sure they'll have stories.

Actually, I was going to mention the comparisons between this debate and the war as well. How certain attitudes and approachs have been used, who took cheap shots, who used propaganda, who tried to wind people up and for what raeson etc. I am sure you could write a whole book on the phsycology of it all.

As for getting together, I think their would be some mirroring going on there also. Seeing that this conflict will not be over for many a year any get together will unfortunately attract extremists and those willing to hurt other either verbally or physically. It would be a good idea if it worked, but I dont expect it would be quite woodstock, if you know what I mean.

Sorry Doug, no disrespect intended, I was speaking metaphorically.

Well I don't know if that'll end up happening, but there is an alternative. We could post pictures of ourselves. It's not quite the same as meeting each other in person, but it does put a face to the name.

You'd recognise me Marc--I'd be wearing my "Pink Ribbon".

I've met a few individuals from a previous message board I posted on, but they were all local.
