| Posted by: Lawless | | While it's shocking to see her that big... I really hate seeing people making comments about how disgusting someone looks who's overweight. I've struggled with my weight since I was about 25, and if someone made such a comment about me (even though I'm not that big) it would break my heart.
I hope that everything is okay for her... and that she isn't gaining weight because of depression, or something else. | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: HECK! | | KJ is right. Hell, I've got a bit of a beer belly myself. I think people's comments are more shock when comparing what she used to look like.
But I don't feel too bad for Kirstie, she's been a pill popper for years. No sympathy for drug addicts here.

| Posted by: HECK! | | KJ, I hear you. I had a weight problem when I was a kid and still battle to keep in shape (or some semblance of it), yet I still sometimes make jokes about larger people, even though a few close friends and family have a weight problem. I know the comments are insensitive and in some cases mean. I try to be funny, and if we can't laugh at ourselves then who can we laugh at. I don't know, maybe I'm not making sense. My bad if I offended you though.

TV STAR Kirstie Alley is exploiting the controversy of her ballooning weight to further her career.
The Cheers star will feature in Fat Actress, a semi-autobiographical comedy on the US Showtime network next year.
The six episodes will blend the comedy and reality genres and, while Alley and the show's cast will work from a plot, they will improvise dialogue.
Fat Actress will focus on Alley's quest for work, love and acceptance in Hollywood, as well as her battle with, and interest in, her weight.
"Finally a network that feels just like home," Alley said.
"They don't give a damn how much I eat or how many men I sleep with as long as it's on camera." | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: schmiggens | | ANNA NICOLE SMITH DEFENDS KIRSTIE ALLEY
Busty blonde Anna Nicole Smith has leapt to the defense of actress Kirstie Alley, whose weight has been regular tabloid fodder.
The former Playboy Playmate, who recently slimmed down her rotund frame, is highly unimpressed with all of the negative attention former "Cheers" star Alley is getting for her weight gain.
She blasts, "They are just being so mean to her."
While Alley's weight problems have been well-documented in newspapers, she's not running from them. In a reality-comedy series for cable network Showtime, the actress will send up her own image, as well as Hollywood's obsession with weight and beauty, in "Fat Actress," which will air sometime next year.
Former plus-size model Smith has dealt with her own tabloid coverage, including reports on her recent 69-pound weight loss.
She says, "I'm so tired of hearing, 'Oh, she's had bypass surgery. She's had liposuction.' None of it is true."
Instead, Smith says the slimming down is due to a healthier diet and Trimspa, a weight loss supplement she promotes. | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: Flutterbywingz | | Hey! Just thought I'd get in on the action too!
I recently saw Kirstie in a television show. Her weight gain was shocking, but she's still Kirstie. Right?
I'm no Doctor, but I have witnessed a very good friend living with the effects of a pituitary dysfunction (a tumor). I still love her to pieces, but she has become unrecognizable to many of her friends and family. She weighed 125 lbs one day, and eight months later, had doubled in size. That's a massive amount of weight gain in such a short period of time. She's going in for brain surgery next week. Her doctors are expecting her to recover and are hopeful that she'll go back down to her normal size. My friend, embarrassed about how much she has changed, went into complete isolation.
I say "good for Kirstie", that she hasn't let such a superficial bunch as the hollywood gang, ruin her!
Some signs of pituitary dysfunction are visible to the naked eye. To me, Kirstie looks like her weight gain has more to do with medical reasons than just hanging out in too many burger joints.
The woman is probably thankful she's still alive! | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: schmiggens | | KIRSTIE TO REPLACE ANNA NICOLE?
Actress Kirstie Alley's increased girth has opened up yet another opportunity for her -- she's set to replace Anna Nicole Smith as a spokesmodel for a plus-sized clothing chain.
The former "Cheers" star has recently faced relentless press attention over her weight gain, and recently announced plans to poke fun at it herself with her upcoming show "Fat Actress."
And now bosses of Lane Bryant are reportedly considering her as a replacement for busty blonde Smith, who recently shed a dramatic amount of weight.
A source says, "Now that Anna has lost all of that weight and is actually looking skinny, she's no longer really considered Lane Bryant material by some executives. So the company is wooing Kirstie to take over.
"Even though she put on some extra weight, Kirstie still loves clothes, and this would be a great opportunity, so she's tempted."
Alley has yet to accept the offer. | | Reply To this Message

When the time is right she will take it off they all do eventually after all Gastric Bypass is as popular as Cosmetic Surgery in La La Land.
In the meantime she is dong well with her career. So get off her back.

Hollywood actress Kirstie Alley is set to make more cash from her weight gain -- by signing up as the new celebrity spokesperson for Jenny Craig.
The former "Cheers" star is already using her heavy frame to her advantage, by appearing in her upcoming TV show "Fat Actress," and now she's following in the footsteps of Monica Lewinsky to take on promotional duties for weight-loss giant Jenny Craig.
Alley, a onetime Jenny Craig member, turned down four other offers before signing with the company in the hopes of losing 50 pounds.

Former Cheers star Kirstie Alley celebrated her 54th birthday with a sinfully high-calorie chocolate cake on Wednesday. The actress, accompanied by her two children William and Lillie, marked the occasion at a press conference promoting her new series Fat Actress.
She may have to forgo such calorific delights in the future, however, as she gears up to slim down after inking a lucrative deal to promote a weight-loss programme.
“I've lost 10lbs,” revealed Kirstie, who now weighs in at 14 stone. “I want to lose 60lbs more. I want to be a skinny fat actress,” she says - even if that might not be welcome news for her new network bosses.
The reality based programme which follows a docu-comedy format, is about a Hollywood actress’ continual battle with her weight. Though script outlines will be prepared in advance, most of the dialogue is to be improvised. Fat Actress premieres stateside in March, with a guest appearance by Kirstie's Look Who’s Talking co-star John Travolta.

| Posted by: schmiggens | | Kirstie Alley would have seduced Travolta if it wasn't for his wife!
Kirstie Alley has confessed she would have seduced John Travolta if he wasn't married to her good friend Kelly Preston. The Hollywood actress, who co-starred with the 'Grease' star in 'Look Who's Talking', admits she's "madly in love" with Travolta and would have tried something but was stopped because of the loyalties she felt towards Kelly.
She is quoted by Britain's Express newspaper as saying: "I love John. I'm madly in love with John. His wife, Kelly, is one of my best friends, if not my best friend. If she wasn't, I would be unethical. I would say, 'Okay, now I'm just going to use the restroom,' and I'd trap John in the hall and go like, 'Alright now look, Johnny boy, just take me here, take me on the floor! Don't worry about your wife in the other room!'
"But because she is my friend I can't do that."
Meanwhile, Kirstie, 54, also admitted that she once spent three days in bed because she felt so fat. The star, who is currently starring in hit US show 'Fat Actress', revealed: "I once spent three days in bed because I felt that I was so fat, old and ugly and thought I was never going to work again."

| Posted by: mystic | | Alley feeds off humor for 'Fat Actress'
By Robert Bianco, USA TODAY
LOS ANGELES — When life gave Kirstie Alley lemons, she made lemon meringue pie.
Kirstie Alley gets accustomed to sugar-free popsicles as she tries to drop weight in Fat Actress.
Showtime
A little too much pie may have turned Alley into a fat actress, but it also brought her a Showtime sitcom: Fat Actress. Premiering March 6, this unscripted comedy follows her sort-of-real adventures as she tries to make her way in a city where obesity is the only mortal sin.
Alley, 5-foot-8, weighs 197 pounds, not 500, despite what you may read in the tabloids. She has dropped 10 pounds from her top weight of 207, thanks to Jenny Craig, which hired her as its spokeswoman.
Even when Alley was thin, she says she was never thin enough. She weighed only 135 on Cheers, but producers still complained about her weight. "On Veronica's Closet, it was more like a weekly ritual," she said Wednesday at a semiannual gathering of TV writers.
So what happened? Once Veronica ended, Alley decided to spend more time with her family. So she stayed home and cooked — and ate. "I turned into Donna Reed, only she didn't get fat."
To her mind, getting fat was "an error in judgment." For the tabloids, it was like a gift from the food gods. Pictures of Alley eating were plastered next to every supermarket checkout counter. "It was disconcerting."
Alley decided she had two choices: Drop out of the business or turn the problem into "something fabulous." So she went to Showtime with the idea, figuring she had nothing to lose but weight. "I couldn't have been attacked any more than I was being attacked. I was under siege 24/7. It has actually been very liberating to decide there has to be humor in this."
Having spent a year living large in the tabloids, she's now determined to drop the weight. Her goal? 140.
And if you think that will ruin Fat Actress, think again. Alley says she'll just make the show about sex and men. "The show is really more about the state of mind of women and how easy it is to prey upon women and their insecurities. ... If I'm skinny in it, I'm sure I'll have some big disease on the cover of the Star."

| Posted by: schmiggens | | 'Fat' & sassy, Kirstie chews the scenery
Kirstie Alley is going to have a big fat problem with her new Showtime comedy, "Fat Actress," which premieres Monday night. It's going to be a hit, and she's not going to be fat anymore. "That's okay," she told us the other day. "We can call it 'Slut Actress' the second season."
Kirstie was all curves in silk at lunch with Showtime Chairman Matt Blank at The Modern, Danny Meyer's hot new boite at the Museum of Modern Art, where she nibbled on salmon, sipped squash soup and, okay, tasted a couple of desserts - but they involved apples and were all on her Jenny Craig diet. "I've lost 20 pounds so far."
The 5-foot-7 "Cheers" star peaked at 203 pounds after a "perfect storm" of factors: "Veronica's Closet" was canceled and her 14-year marriage to Parker Stevenson ended.
"Since the age of 15, I had always been monogamous with a man," she revealed. "I would be a chameleon, taking on his identity, his family customs. I said, 'Let's see what happens when you create your own.' I'd rather spend time with my children, anyway."
The kids, William True, 12, and Lillie, 10, have been supportive, she adds. "The only thing my daughter doesn't like are my fat pants."
When Alley hit bottom, she spent a week in bed, then picked herself up by her stiletto straps. "I'm a Scientologist, and I set the goal to out-create it."
What she created, with co-writer Brenda Hampton, was "Fat Actress," a brilliantly funny, mostly improvised show that's like "Curb Your Enthusiasm" meets "The Women."
In just one episode - starring her friends John Travolta and Kelly Preston as well as Kid Rock and NBC entertainment chief Jeff Zucker - Alley triumphantly gets back at Hollywood. (There's more revenge in her memoir, "How to Lose Your A-- and Regain Your Life.") And it's cable, so there's a lot of naughty language and sex.
Just not in real life.
"I haven't gotten l-- in 4-1/2 years," Alley told us. "It's time to go to Italy and meet someone named Gianfranco and there's a little problem. He's gorgeous and he's too young for me, but we start an affair."
You go, girl.

| Posted by: schmiggens | | EW review: 'Actress' has huge problem
http://i.a.cnn.net/cnn/2005/SHOWBIZ/TV/03/07/ew.tv.fat/story.alley.travolta.ap.jpg
John Travolta stops in to see his friend Kirstie Alley in "Fat Actress."
(Entertainment Weekly) -- It's a genius idea, the notion of incorporating the shock effect of Kirstie Alley's recent substantial weight gain into an autobio sitcom about a substantially heavier Kirstie Alley.
Who doesn't have a soft spot for Alley? She's always had that appealing, curvy, broad-out-of-the-1940s thing going on, distinguishing her -- even when she was thinner -- from the gaggle of more boyishly constructed comediennes who tend to prosper on TV.
She is historically as good ("Cheers") or better ("Veronica's Closet") than anything she's in. And, as she points out to her agent in a desperate phone call on the premiere episode of "Fat Actress," Alley has won two People's Choice Awards -- which means she's the people's choice, dammit.
For that matter, who doesn't love foulmouthed, semi-improvised, self-referential showbiz deconstruction as a comedy specialty of cable programming? "Curb Your Enthusiasm" defines it, "Entourage" tweaks it, Comedy Central aspires to it nightly on "The Daily Show" -- the format for people so hip, they enjoy the joke behind the joke more than the joke itself.
But while the premise is genius -- I hope it's fulfilled someday -- the huge problem with "Fat Actress" is that it isn't about a fat actress at all: It's about a crazy woman and her enablers.
Honestly, avoirdupois has little to do with the miseries this ''Kirstie Alley'' imposes on herself -- and us -- in the comfort of her high-end L.A. home, with her assistants, Eddie (Bryan Callen) and Kevyn (Rachael Harris), close at hand. (Eddie is her gofer, her ''*****,'' and at one point her pimp; Kevyn, named after the late makeup artist Kevyn Aucoin, is her girlfriend-sidekick and her hair fusser.)
This Kirstie whines, she weeps, she schemes (to pick up a black man since they all, you know, love big butts), and she stomps her Ugg-encased tootsies. She also sucks burgers down her maw with the power of a Dyson vacuum cleaner.
None of this, please be advised, is a weight issue with which real humans can identify; it's a spoiled-nutcase issue, cushioned by wealth and people willing to play along.
John Travolta shows up, as John Travolta, and comforts Kirstie after her agent suggests she lose some heft. (Travolta's wife, Kelly Preston, makes guest appearances as a collagen-lipped diet guru who counsels Alley to induce vomiting by sticking something really ''beautiful'' down her throat.) NBC chief Jeff Zucker drops by as himself to listen to Kirstie in a pitch meeting. Comedian Mark Curry arrives as the black guy who gets lucky, in a painfully under-edited bedroom scene.
To call "Fat Actress" an insult to fat actresses may be extreme. But the coarse, overwrought comedy, cocreated and written by Alley and "7th Heaven" creator Brenda Hampton, is certainly no gift to an extremely likable star -- she's the people's choice, dammit -- more in need of solid direction, apparently, than great improv freedom.
Given the chance to joke with bitter wisdom about the tyranny of looksism (in an industry where even svelte sitcom women like Calista Flockhart and Jennifer Aniston shrunk their shapes over time), a star who uses that freedom instead to announce ''I'm going to f--- Kid Rock'' doesn't appreciate her fat luck.

| Posted by: schmiggens | | ALLEY UPSETS BULIMICS ON NEW SHOW
Kirstie Alley has been attacked by members of the world's leading eating disorders group for joking about "life-threatening diseases" like bulimia on her new comedy show, "Fat Actress."
Officials at the National Eating Disorders Association are furious with the former "Cheers" star for trivializing binge-eating disorders during the debut of her new program, which aired on Showtime on Monday night.
In one scene, which has upset NEDA's chiefs, co-star Kelly Preston tells Alley's character, which is loosely based on herself, that making herself sick after every meal is one way of losing weight -- a practice commonly used by bulimics.
NEDA Chief Executive Officer Lynn Grefe says, "My guess is that Kirstie Alley's concept for the show was born from her frustrations with the unreasonable standards found in the entertainment industry, frustrations that NEDA understands because it is that unrealistic standard that often triggers an eating disorder.
"However, there is nothing funny about eating disorders, and to make comedic references to anorexia, bulimia or binge-eating disorder is dangerous. Nearly 10 million women and 1 million men suffer from anorexia or bulimia and it is estimated that another 25 million suffer from binge-eating disorders."

| Posted by: schmiggens | | Alley: 'I Haven't Had My Stomach Stapled'
Slimmed-down actress Kirstie Alley has hit back at reports she's had her stomach stapled, insisting her weight loss is all down to the healthy diet plan she advertises on TV.
The "Fat Actress" star decided to shed her weight when she ballooned to over 200 pounds last year and decided to try the Jenny Craig Diet to win her battle.
She was so impressed with the results she agreed to endorse the diet plan on national TV.
But new reports suggest Alley is a cheat, and she actually lost the weight by having stomach-stapling surgery, similar to that of Carnie Wilson and Sharon Osbourne.
Her lawyer Barry Felsen fumes, "It's an outright lie that she had her stomach stapled. It's so false it's preposterous."
Alley's publicist Rob Levy adds, "She can show she doesn't have the scars that this procedure leaves."

| Posted by: Sandy June | | ALLEY MAX: Kirstie Alley was at her largest at 219 lbs., she admitted on The Oprah Winfrey Show Monday, and to date she's shed 55 lbs. of that, and has her sights set on dropping another 25-30. "I made some good decisions simultaneously with some bad decisions," Alley, 54, said of the way she let her body balloon. "The good part of it was, 'I'm going to spend more time with my kids (William, 13, and Lillie, 11), I'm going to cook.' The bad decision was – and this is the dumbest decision I've ever made in my life – it went like this: If a man really loves me, he will not have to love me for my body. He will really love me just for me. … When did I decide I was a big, fat girl?"
