BRITNEY Spears has been given permission to tour China on one condition officials want prior approval of her outfits to check they are not too revealing. China's Culture Ministry says the star is welcome on her first tour of the country they want to know what she'll be wearing before she hits the stage.

Spears, who is currently on a world tour to promote her latest album In The Zone, is scheduled to perform five concerts in Shanghai and Beijing next year, but, government officials are concerned about the star's sexy image and have asked the concert's Chinese organisers to give them some guarantee that she won't be showing too much skin on stage. 'Relevant departments will carry out strict reviews of Britney Spears' performance clothing,' a Culture Ministry spokesman said.

It wasn't clear what standards inspectors will use to check her costumes or how the rules would be enforced.

Chinese government bigwigs yesterday gave her permission to tour the republic — provided they choose the clothes she wears on stage.

They have already banned her from baring any flesh.

So out go the PVC catsuits, thongs and cleavage-busting tops — all the sauce that has made Britney a household name.

Instead, she may be asked to sport dowdy communist workers’ fatigues and dodgy outfits worn in paddy fields.

A culture minister said last night: “Relevant departments will carry out strict reviews of Britney Spears’ performance clothing.”

The singer, who has been slated for miming during her world tour, is scheduled to perform five concerts in Shanghai and Beijing next year.

Britney is desperate to put her name firmly on the world map by joining a select group of Western acts to play in China.

An insider on her tour told me last night: “Britney loves making history and taking her music to places it wouldn’t normally reach.

“She doesn’t know too much about the political situation in China but she knows it would be really neat to perform there.

“When we pencilled in the China dates we were all told that special rules may be put in place before she can take her show there.

“She may have to cover up a little and some of the content of the show will certainly have to be revised.

“It’s very racy at the moment.”

Britney’s tour is renowned for its sexy raunch rather than her actual singing.

She simulates pleasuring herself, snogs a male dancer and writhes around in PVC gear.

Pop star Britney Spears must promise Chinese officials that she will not reveal too much flesh in her current world tour or face a ban from performing in Shanghai and Beijing.

The singer is currently travelling the world on her raunchy Onyx Hotel tour, in which she dances provocatively in lingerie and simulates sex with her male dancers.

However, officials from the Ministry of Culture are concerned about her sexy image and asked the concert's Chinese organizers to guarantee that her saucy outfits are toned down for the five gigs later this year.

A spokesman for the concert's organizers Beijing Poly Culture and Art Co. Ltd. says, "The ministry's wishes will be respected. But Spears' outfits and stage show are the same on each stop of the tour and it would be impossible to make up clothes especially for the China performances."

With more than 54 million records sold worldwide, Spears would be one of the biggest international pop stars to play in China since the communist state was established in 1949.
