LOS ANGELES, California (AP) -- Oscar-winning actress Julia Roberts is pregnant with twins, according to magazine reports.

People magazine reported Monday night that Roberts' spokeswoman, Marcy Engelman, said the "Pretty Woman" star was due to give birth to twins early next year.

Roberts was born in Smyrna, Georgia.

US Weekly said Roberts, 36, has been pregnant for about nine weeks with twins. Star magazine, citing unidentified sources, said the twins were a boy and a girl.

Roberts, who won the best actress Oscar in 2001 for "Erin Brockovich," married cinematographer Daniel Moder, 35, in July 2002 at her home in New Mexico.

The twins would be the first children for Roberts, who starred in 1990's "Pretty Woman."

Engelman told People magazine that twins run in Roberts' family, with her great-grandmother and a pair of cousins born as twins.

Good for her, I had heard thaht she was worried about her biological clock ticking away and possibly getting too old to have children. I just hope her relationship with Danny holds up and they can work everything out. Julia hasn't exactly been lucky in love throughout the times.

I think that it's great... she will be a beautiful pregnant woman... and a good mother.

Superstar actress Julia Roberts has finally achieved her ultimate goal -- she's pregnant with twins.

The beauty, 36, is nine weeks pregnant and will deliver the tots -- reportedly a boy and a girl -- early next year.

Roberts has spent the last two years, following her romantic wedding to second husband Danny Moder, trying to conceive and eventually resorted to in vitro fertilization at a cost of $18,000.

Julia's spokeswoman Marcy Engelman was forced to confirm the news when tabloid the Star broke the story after allegedly speaking to the Oscar-winning actress's close friends.

The news she is expecting twins will come as no surprise to her family. Her great grandmother was a twin and she also has twin cousins.

Earlier this year, Roberts told reporters: "I think children fall into the category of the will of heaven, and I don't really have a timetable for that."

I hope her kids are ugly. Round out the universe.

I don’t mean to sound cynical, but Julia Roberts’ children already have a golden ticket by birthright. With the added incentive of having the A-List celebrity look predisposed in their genes, they have a free ride through life. I say they should earn some of it- make them unattractive, or at the very least, average looking by Hollywood standards. Not Elephant Man ugly or anything, but hell, life shouldn’t be that easy. A crooked nose or lazy eye would help those kids, make them appreciate life rather than coasting through it because there mom has a big mouth and played a hooker with a heart of gold in the early-90’s. Look at Cindy Crawford’s kids, they’re cute as hell. Makes me sick.

Expectant mum Julia Roberts is just a few months away from the arrival of her first children, fraternal twins, due this winter. And, as she nears her due date, she has decided to speak for the first time about her pregnancy – and reveals that her movie career may be on hold for a while.

In an interview with Newsweek, the Pretty Woman star, who is expecting a boy and a girl, can't hide her happiness at her pending double baby joy, proudly showing off her burgeoning bump. "It does kind of happen overnight. You wake up and go, 'Oh my God!'," she says. And it seems that Julia isn't lacking that pregnancy glow, adding: "I feel like I'm just… vibrating."

The Oscar winner tells the magazine that her upcoming flicks, Ocean's Twelve and Closer, may be her last for some time to come. "It's a whole new life," she says. "I'm not planning anything. I can't imagine how big I'm going to get in the next three months, but hell, you just kind of play it as it comes. I'm allowed to do that, aren't I?"

Julia and her husband of two years, cameraman Danny Moder, are already preparing for their expanding family. The couple have reportedly purchased a multi-million dollar beachfront mansion in Malibu, complete with extra security measures to ensure privacy for the foursome.

She still looks gorgeous even six months pregnant with twins. I think Heck's right, they're going to be gorgeous looking kids. And twins have an extra cutenesss factor that single birth babies just don't have.

ROBERTS SEEKS 'BAYWATCH' BABY ADVICE

Oscar-winning actress Julia Roberts is receiving baby advice from Pamela Anderson as she prepares for the birth of twins early next year -- and the pair have become close friends.

Anderson, who has two sons from her failed marriage to Tommy Lee, has been filling Roberts in on everything from giving birth to motherly duties.

A friend of the 37-year-old former "Baywatch" beauty says, "Pam has recommended Julia to try a home birth in a birthing pool. She's even referred her to a support group that helped her.

"She and Julia have become quite close. Pam sees a lot of herself in Julia. She remembers bringing up kids in the public eye.

"Pam is happy to be there for her, even at the birth if that's what she and Danny want."

I don't know but I find the idea of Pamela Anderson being there when Julia Robert's give birth very funny. It would be like a scene from the lethal weapon spoofs or something I imagine her wearing the teeniest nurses uniform with her humongous breasts sticky out and a "naughty nurse" cap on while healping Too funny

I think Julia's kids will be beautiful, Julia is beautiful.. I don't know who her husband is though.. :\ And I cannot imagine Pamela Anderson helping someone give birth.. I didn't even know she had kids..

The mum-to-be is showing a tummy of Oscar-winning proportions now she is six months pregnant with twins.

The Pretty Woman is following a strict fitness and health regime to make sure she stays in good shape for the birth of her IVF babies, a boy and a girl, early next year.

Part of the regime involves pilates classes and in this picture Julia is seen leaving her regular session in Taos, New Mexico.

I think that's excellent, that she wants to take time off. SOomany Hollywood mums these days are back working within weeks of having their kids and it's so sad. Little ones really do grow quickly and you should spend as much time with them when they're young as you can.

DOCS TELL JULIA TO REST AFTER HER TWINS SCARE

PREGNANT Julia Roberts was recovering in a Los Angeles hospital last night after a health scare at the weekend.

Her anxious husband, cameraman Danny Moder, rushed her to the unidentified hospital when she began having early contractions.

Julia, 36, who is expecting boy and girl twins in January, was hooked up to a fetal monitor.

Her contractions eventually stopped, and, although her condition is not serious, her doctors plan to keep her in hospital and have advised rest until she gives birth.

Julia originally had planned to gather with friends and family for a baby shower. So at around noon on Sunday the party came to her hospital room instead.

Doctors have also told her that she must not take her favourite Pilates exercise classes in the near future.

Last night it was unclear how her condition would affect the press tour she had planned for her upcoming films, Ocean's Twelve and Closer.

The 36-year-old was connected to a foetal monitor until the contractions stopped, and both she and the babies are now said to be fine. It is expected she will be confined to bed for the remainder of her pregnancy, however.
