LONDON, England (AP) -- Harry Potter may never grow up.

Daniel Radcliffe, who stars as the daring schoolboy wizard, said Friday that Harry may die in the last book of J.K. Rowling's magical series.

"I'm going to be really unpopular for saying this about Harry, but I've always had the suspicion -- with everything that's going on -- that he might die," Radcliffe, 14, told a news conference Friday to promote the third film of Rowling's series, "Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban."

Rowling has remained silent about the fate of Harry in the seventh and final book. But with every new installment Rowling reveals more connections between the character and his arch-enemy, the evil wizard Lord Voldemort.

"Harry and Voldemort have the same core in them, we get to see that in the fourth film," the now in production "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire," said Radcliffe.

"The only way Voldemort could die is if Harry dies as well."

Voldemort was responsible for the deaths of Harry's parents and left the young wizard with the distinctive zig-zag scar on his forehead.

The pair have similar powers -- including their wands and their fluency in Parsel -- and Voldemort has been unable to kill Harry.

Rowling has hinted in the past that Harry may not survive.

Asked whether she would write books about the character when he reaches adulthood, she replied: "You have to wait and see whether he survives to be a grown-up."

"The Prisoner of Azkaban" premieres in Britain on Sunday and goes on general release the following day.

"The Goblet of Fire" may be the last time fans see Radcliffe in the role of Harry, which has brought him a fortune estimated at around 10 million pounds (US$18 million). He has yet to commit to a fifth film.

Asked about his future, he said: "I really love acting but I've got lots of other things I'm really interested in, like music. Whatever happens, happens. I'm interested to go on to other things at some point, when that will be I don't know.

"I'm not going to lie and say it will be absolutely easy to see someone else play the part because it will be extremely strange after four films," Radcliffe said.

"But if it happens it will be something I will have to get used to. I'm not saying it will happen but it's a possibility."

All right, somebody get Hermione to punch Daniel for saying that.

Right... where's Hermione when we need her? Damn it, what he said is worse then calling someone a mudblood.

I know. How dare he. Hey, maybe JK herself will go slap him.

Now THAT would be worth paying big bucks for. Screw the WWF, we've got JKR on Daniel... and she will mess him up!

Sounds to me as if he has not really read the books.

well it sounds to me like he's only read up to the fourth, because if he had read the fifth he would know that the probability of both dying is very slim, although i myself have always wondered, what would happen if harry died instead of voldmort? not that i want that to happen in any way dont get me wrong because i dont, but it would be an odd twist, although i think that if that happened it wouldnt allow jkr to finish her series, because you cant just let it end with " and now that harry is dead voldmort will rule over the wizarding world forever the end!" or something like that, i highly doubt harry will die.

She doesn't get the whole anger thing I'm assuming. Probably because she hasn't yet experienced teenage angst.

I think she is just our little rebel.

Maybe Radcliffe is right. It might turn out like Matrix: Revolutions....

"He is your opposite, your negative. The result of an equation trying to balance itself out".

I hope I don't get smoked for bringing my Matrix theories in HP.

The prophecy says that Harry must either be victim or murderer. I interpret that to mean that if Harry dies Voldemort lives. I don't think it will end like that. If it does, JKR is nuts.

Okay, this is the prophecy:

`The one with the power to vanquish the Dark Lord approaches.... born to those who have thrice defied him, born as the seventh month dies.... and the Dark Lord will mark him as his equal, but he will have power the Dark Lord knows not.... and either must die at the hand of the other for neither can live while the other survives.... the one with the power to vanquish the Dark Lord will be born as the seventh month dies...'

It says nothing about Harry not dying himself in the process. So I think his death is open to question.

p.s. I hope I did not violate copyright.

I still don't think he will die. Heroes very rarely die in children's literature.

Maybe you are right. I haven't read much children's literature. HP is one of the only few I have read, and that too as an adult.

well its just, how would she end it if he did die... i mean would it be like " and suddenly harry turned and once again he saw that green flash of light, and was gone. Hermione screamed and the world was doomed to live happily ever after under lord voldmorts rule. The end!" i mean... come on!

daemon hit the nail on the head. You can't leave it like that

Sure you could. Harry could go out defeating Voldemort, the bad and good cancelling each other out, as it where.

If JK ever wants to truly end the series, she should have Harry go out in a blaze of glory. Or else she's going to be writing these books for the rest of her life. And I know there is only supposed to be 7 books, but between popular demand and the insane amount of zeroes that would be on a pay check, she'd write 7 more in a heartbeat.

Sounds to me that the HP fans just don't want the beloved hero to die. Not there's anything wrong with that.

Maybe she could leave it with HP not dead but not alive. Some kind of limbo, like the way that Trek series DS9 ended.

-HECK!

Somebody suggested earlier that Sirius may be "in limbo". I guess Harry could possibly go to be with him. I wouldn't like that ending though.

I think either Harry will live, or he will go to be with Sirius beyond the veil. I am leaning to live because if she killed him, she would have angry fans bugging her for the rest of her life.

Personally, I think Sirius will return from beyond the veil. I think it was an experimental veil. Why else would it be at the Ministry of Magic?

I think that those within the Ministry (in certain positions) know EXACTLY what the deal is with the veil. And I would NOT be surprised to find that Dumbledore knows also.

I just can't see Harry dying. What if Sirius came back through, and was a huge part in helping Harry to destroy Voldemort?
