| City of Heroes
PC
I for one have always enjoyed the the concept of Super Heroes. I mean, who here has never asked, or been asked the "If you had a super power, what would it be?" question? Also I am a MMORPG fan. and now I get to mix those two together in one excellent game. I am so happy.
First off, you can create your hero to your tastes. There are SO many options, that after playing this game for a week, I have yet to see similar looking characters. This is not including the people who decided to created the EASIEST character to make. The Hulk. I can see the thought process in this one.
Is he Big?
check.
Is he green?
Check.
Does he have purple pants?
Check.
Does he.... uh.... I guess we are done.
now it's isn't just the look that you are modifing. It is also his power set. Here they give you several options to suit your taste. 5 total.
Blaster - Attack from far away, VERY high damage ability. but low Hit Points.
Controller - can control the opponets. I.E. Freeze them, put them to sleep, make them run away. etc. Hit points = Low, Damage = Low
Defender - Increase friends stats, decrease enemy stats. few ranged attacks. Hit Points = Med. Damage = medium
Scrapper - Close in fighter. Hit points = Med, damage = High
Tanker - They take the damage so the rest can do their thing. Hit points = High, Damage = Med.
I could write this whole article on nothing but the character creation, but I shall refrain from that. ON TO THE GAME
The Game takes place in Paragon City. Where there is always something to do. You can go around and fight crime. From muggings to people trying to break into cars and buildings (why people would do petty crime like this in a city FILLED with super heros is beyond me). To doing missions. These can be solo missions, or team missions. Hell, you can even fight crime in a team. You can join a supergroup (guild). And eventually, take on super villians. Emphasis on EVENTUALLY. You can get missions from contacts, and these missions evolve around what kind a character you created. Which is a nice touch in my honest opinion. Another small touch is your friendship level with your contacts. at first you are an aquaintence. having to return to them after every mission. Once you get better aquainted, you can just call him after your mission, or to start up a new one. small touches like this are often overlooked but appreciated.
Graphics - Slightly cartoony, but great seeing as what type of game this is.
Sound - slight downfall as there isn't a continuous audio soundtrack going on, but the sounds of shooting a villian with an energy blast makes up for it. also there are multiple sounds for the same action. So I'm not making the same sound over and over again when i jump.
Playability - controls are simple, and Macros are not really needed for this game as it is for other MMORPGs.
Entertainment - Creating the hero was entertaining, imagine the playing of the game entertainment that can arise. truely not a dissapiontment.
Replay value - A CRAPLOAD
Bottom Line - 9.5
Fans of Comic books - Buy it.
Fans of MMORPGs - Buy it.
People who don't own a computer - Buy a computer, get internet access, then buy it.
