Hello Everyone,
I am facing a problem related to a compaq presario 7500 series desktop machine. The user has forgotten the user level power-on password of the machine. I have the administartor password , but that is not resseting the user level password. It says it requires old password. I want to recover it or remove it without opening the machine.

Can anyone help ???

As the admin you should be able to change the user settings or delete the user outright.

Well It is in system bios. Which does not behave like Windows User accounts. The user who has set password can only change it.

just pull the power and the BIOS battery for about 5 min. you will have to resetup bios but you get your PC back.

you might be able to clear the CMOS content without opening the pc case if you can boot to a DOS prompt:

quote:
A:\>DEBUG
- o 70 2E
- o 71 FF
- q

this should invalidate the CMOS RAM and force the defaults to load.

Thanks for that Larke. I will keep it in mind if ever forget my password (even though that is very unlikely to happen) or if someone else forgets it.
