Have we seen the last of Sirius Black? The following are from a web chat with JKR.

*SiriuslyLovinSirius: If we ever see Sirius again, what form will he be in?
JK Rowling replies -> I couldn't possibly answer that for fear of incriminating myself

*Cookie246122: Why did you kill Sirius? It made me very sad
JK Rowling replies -> I'm really, really sorry. I didn't want to do it, but there was a reason. If you think you can forgive me, keep reading, you'll find out. [I feel really guilty now].

*Kelpie_8: Will the two way mirror Sirius gave Harry ever show up again?
JK Rowling replies -> Ooooo good question. There's your answer.

Open to discussion.

Something has to give...

She wouldn't be so adamant about giving anything related to Sirius away if there wasn't a reason. That, however, doesn't mean he'll come back. Only that his story is not finished in the series. (Though, I'm still rooting for him to come back. Even if it's not in the flesh!)

Something about that mirror, though. It just happens to be left in Harry's possession? Hmmm... it "is" a very good question... Sounds like a future plot set up to me. :P

oiey
it drove me CRAZY when harry didnt use the mirror and decided to go into umbridges office instead. I was literally like YELLING at the book " HARRY YOU MORON THE PACKAGE THE PACKAGE USE THE PACKAGE" this almost reminds me of ancient greek tragedies. Where the main character has one flaw and it results in either death or complete destruction of their life. Although this isnt really a character flaw, well i guess you could say forgetfullness is one, but it is a type of flaw, and possibly contributes to the resulting factor of sirius's assumed death, and harry losing his god father.

It does sound like a plot set up to me also. I think Sirius still has a few things to tell us.

O.K. The curtain he fell thru is a portal to the spirit world, either Ron or Hermione will figure out how to get him out, but I don't think that will happen till the last book.

I just can not and will not believe that he's dead!! I believe that he will be back!

I think that Sirius is in a type of pergatory. He was hit with a stunning spell instead of the killing spell. There has to be hope for Sirius. I think it will be the last book that he is returned.

well actually we dont know for sure it was a stunning spell, we know he doged a stunning spell and was hit by another jet of light, but the killing curse was always described more as a flash or a big burst of light , rather than a jet or a beam which is how the stunning spell was described as, so personally i think it was a stunning spell too

what if sirius isnt really in any form of an afterlife though, what if he was simply transported to another world or something.. i remember when i was little my dad used to watch that show "sliders" where people would travel to other worlds... i guess thats how the idea popped into my head.

But, we know that the beam that hit him was red, not green... and the killing curse is a green burst.

It will be interesting when we find out WHAT is beyond the veil... if she reveals it, and I think that she will.

Of course she'll reveal it. She wont leave any untied ends.... will she?

Reply To this Message

No, she says that she will tie everything up. I think she does not want fans hounding her for the rest of her life.

I think that Sirius Black is dead. Just now I was thinking, would it be possible for him to come in Harry's dreams? He is not coming back as a ghost, Sir Nearly Headless Nick has told us that much.

I definately think Sirius will be in Harry's dreams, that's a given (though his spirit may or may not be the Sirius in the dream, or it may just be Harry's imagination... lets see), but I'm thinking of other mediums that JKR hasn't explored yet (ie. the mirror, among other things that she can just make up, I'd guess).

Very true... who knows WHAT JKRowling has in store for Sirius. But, I don't think that we've seen the last of him.

Someone needs to perform legilimency on her.

I don't think that we could get away with that, mahesh.

And then an 'obliviate'.

maybe sirius will become a ghost at hogwarts? or more than that, a teacher? wasn't one of the teachers a ghost? and now that the DADA post is open, sirius would be perfect for it! wasn't it sirius who escaped from the darkest, most evil wizard prison?

and wouldn't sirius as a DADA professor be reallllllly cool!??!?!?

Reply To this Message

Posted by: daemon17

Well that would be cool, but we know that he can't come back as a ghost, because nearly headless nick told us. I guess some could say that nearly headless nick was wrong, but I think that Jk put that in there to oust the hope that he would return as a ghost. I know that when he died that apart from " he's not dead" my first idea was that he would come back as a ghost. I think she knew a lot of people would think that and put Nick in there to say, nope if he is coming back its not going to be like that.

I still think there is a technicality of the spell that Bellatrix hit him with-it was a stunning spell. Sirius is gone, but not dead in my opinion.

I don't know have we seen the last of sirius Black

Reply To this Message

I KNOW that we haven't.... because there is NO WAY that JKR is going to just end the series and we have NO knowledge of what happened to Sirius, or where he went. He will be back, in some way.

Reply To this Message

Posted by: daemon17

yea definetly, i think she may have even hinted that he would be coming back in some way, whether it was on that one chat room thing, or her website, im almost positive i heard her hint about it.

It was in that interview that Kris posted. We will see more of Sirius.

you know i wonder if there are any clues in the past books as to how he will come back. and also does anyone know what happened to that motorcycle of his? i mean after hagrid used it? i think it may have been mentioned and i just forgot, i think later if we do run throughs of the other books it would be a good idea to keep an eye out for any possible clues of how he could return

JKR has said that we will find out about the motorcycle...

Katie, welcome to the HP forum. Nice to have a new member.

I think the mirror could be repaired, but unless Sirius had it with him, it would not work. I do wonder if Lupin will have the mirror in the next book.

Surely, there isn't just 2 mirrors in the world like this one.

I have a question. But first let me explain why.

I have only started reading the Harry Potter books two weeks ago after seeing the Prisioner of Azkaban movie. I have just started the Goblet of Fire so I am not up to Sirius Blacks death.

The question I have is, what does happen to make him die?

and is it 100% certain that he is dead?

Reply To this Message

Posted by: fuscia

OH no you don't White Tiger. We are not going to spoil it for you. You need to read it, but no we are not 100% certain that he is dead. We think he is gone but not dead.

White Tiger... that's CHEATING. You shouldn't even be in the HP forum reading until you've read all the books. You shouldn't know about things like Sirius' death. It ruins so much....

Yahoo! Tiger is reading HP! I can't wait to hear what you have to say about it, Tiger.

To tell you the truth my sister is a Harry Potter fan, thats how I know about Sirius' death, that and I read stories on Fanfiction.net

I am about half the way through the Goblet of Fire now so it wont be long till I get to the Order of the Pheonix.

As for what I think of the books in general Heather, I find them very easy-reading, but also captivating and imaginative. In some circumstances you can see what J.K. Rowling has been influenced by the works of others such as Tolkien, but that doesn't matter. The whole idea of Harry Potter is rather intreaging and somewhat imaginative. It is an original story told well.

I hope that clears it up.

Don't forget to come back and post White Tiger. I also started a thread in Harry Potter Books for people to discuss Goblet of Fire.

I have now finished the book and the thing that has me wondering is what Luna Lovegood said to Harry on page 760 & 761. does she know something everyone else doesnt

Reply To this Message

Posted by: Heatherhobbit

Luna knows a lot...We'll have to wait until book 6 to see just how much she knows.

Reply To this Message

Posted by: White Tiger

I find it rather strange that Sirius would just die like that, no explination of his death or anyone really talking to Harry about it. I would have expected Dumbledore to tell him a few things about the veil. I recon he will be used again.

Reply To this Message

Posted by: Heatherhobbit

Well, Rowling has said that she didn't want to kill Sirius, but she had to. We'll have to wait and see why.

I suppose it progresses the story, I would prefer for Sirius to remain alive however, he is one of my kind of characters (when I write fiction).

Reply To this Message

Posted by: Heatherhobbit

I think Luna will be the key to the Sirius mystery. At least, partially.

Reply To this Message

Posted by: White Tiger

I agree with that aswell, Luna seems to know a lot more than she is letting on.

Reply To this Message

Posted by: White Tiger

Heres a question, who is acctually to blame for Sirius going through the veil?

Reply To this Message

Posted by: Heatherhobbit

Bellatrix was dueling with him...she hit him squarely on the chest with something and it caused him to fall into the veil.

Reply To this Message

Posted by: Heatherhobbit

I think that it's interesting to point out the following little tidbit. When Harry realizes that Bellatrix did in fact cause Sirius to fall through the veil and that Sirius is dead he says the following...

"SHE KILLED SIRIUS! SHE KILLED HIM--I'LL KILL HER!"

Then when he gets a chance he does "Crucio" not the killing curse.

Dumbledore forced him to stay in 12 Grimmauld Place.

Snape taunted him about not being able to help the order.

Umbridge stopped free communication from hogwarts to the outside.

The Malfoys controlled Kreacher.

Kreacher lied.

And Voldemort made Harry think that he had kidnapped him, which is the reason the kids ended up in the MoM anyway. And Sirius came to save Harry. So it's partially Voldemort's and Harry's fault Sirius was there too.

A series of events led to Sirius' downfall, no one is specifically to blame.

Reply To this Message

Posted by: Heatherhobbit

exactly, Tiger...I think it was meant to be.

Reply To this Message

Posted by: fuscia

He did decide to hurt her and not kill her. I had forgotten that. It does say a lot about Harry's character. I also agree with Tiger that a Series of events led to Sirius' "death".

Reply To this Message

Posted by: gaboman

You may even say... a series of UNFORTUNATE events led to Sirius' "death"....

So we all agree: it's all Lemony Snicket's fault.

ohhh i love those books.. the movie for the first one is coming out soon.. sorry off topic i know but i saw the words " a series of unfortunate events"
