| Posted by: Enigma | | I think it is important to be able to make light of a situation Ireland. There are many threads in this forum where you can address the real issues behind this conflict.
I know you'll say it's inappropriate to joke about a situation in which people are dying, and maybe you're right, but if you wish to express that view, try doing it with a little more tact and substance than saying "You are all a bunch of f**king idiots". | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: Bubba_H | | Ireland, The war is not a joke. But it is a joke a that the Iraq minister is trying to tell his people that there the American's have not entered, and hold parts of Baghdad. Yes he really has no option but to continue trying saying that, but to hear him say it is ridiculous. It does not mean we think the war is funny. If I was dying, and knew I was dying, and some person kept telling me that I wasn't, I would laugh at them too. I'm not laughing at the situation, but rather laughing at how ridiculous it is to say something that is so obviously false. It does not mean I find the deaths of innocent people funny. It does not mean I think war is a joke. It does not mean I support the war. If you can't see the difference, then nothing I say is likely going to change you mind. | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: loft | | OK here is a good joke. I ve been told that a french chanell was interviewing a US army officer about the civilian casualties. The officer said that US army doesnt on purpose hit civilian buildings. After two minutes a US TANK fired against the Palestine Hotel. 3 people died. Then it fired on nearby Al-jazzera office. 1 dead.
HA HA HA. Isnt that FUNNY????? | | Reply To this Message

I am on the subject. I am trying to be funny for this war.
Wasnt I?????????
As for the minister what can I say? PICTURES SPEAK FOR THEMSELVES.
This guy will get a bullet on his *** one of this days and he will commend that it wasnt by US troop but he himself tried to suicide because he didnt want to DESTROY the SURENDERING coalition forces. At least we have to admire his courage coming in the open and commending. There is another "RAT" that hides from house to house in Baghdad afraid to saw himself in public.
And one more thing. Please dont refer to anybody with swears either you like what he says or not.....

I get your point, yes it is surreal of him to say what he says when clearly the opposite is happening. Nevertheless the situation he is in is fairly surreal itself, I just think its an unnesscesary swipe when the reality of the situation is so important. But again, I get your point.
As for Robert 135 you think I'm an a*****e, fair play to you, maybe you and Bebert a.k.a the wise one could work together and write something special. Ah, that would be nice...big sentances for big boys... | | Reply To this Message

In fact no: not even remotely, but then again I've never really understood British humor.
Jokes about the war have come in good humor from both sides of the fence and everyone has had a good chuckle over them. Take it or leave it, but don't whine about it. If you can't accept a little humor, you might as well put yourself out of your misery today because there is truly nothing inspiring left in this world for you.

Anyway, I've jested similarly about this guy.. it wouldn't surprise me at all to see him getting pulled down by soldiers in a televised press conference while kicking and screaming about the Americans' defeat being immediately at hand in the great inferno of Iraqi military might. Like the knight in Monty Python's Holy Grail who keeps getting limbs hacked off and returns ".. I'm not dead yet! I'll bite your bloody ankles off!.."

Offcourse it has been starving for more than three weeks. Some people have been starving in Iraq for as much as 12 years due to UN sanctions(Gulf War). What do you think that before the invasion they had BURGER and CHIPS for lunch. And the picture is REAL and we have seen it on Reuters and various European newspapers. If you want to learn the truth try to learn the news from both sides. Not just what your side is saying. I suggest you should subscribe on "The Mirror","Der spiegel" and other European newspapers and not just CNN and NBC.

"We *SHELL* not *EXXON*erate Saddam Hussein for his actions. We will *MOBIL*ize to meet this threat to vital interests in the Persian *GULF* until an *AMOCO*ble solution is reached. Our best strategy is to *BP*repared. Failing that, we *ARCO*ming to kick your a$$."

This photo is a bit out of date but you can just change the picture of Bush and Clinton with Bush Jr. and Blair and you have the same result.......
Some jokes:
"Mr Bush, do you have proof that Iraq has weapons of mass destruction?," asks a journalist at a fictional news conference. Bush's answer: "Yes, we kept the receipts."
"The text on leaflets dropped over Iraq reads: 'McDonald's, opening soon in Baghdad' 'Hands up!' and 'Collect four of these and you'll get a free Coke once we're finished bombing'."
"Bush is going to have to finish this war himself -- he doesn't have a son who can do it for him later."
"Saddam has raised the amount going to suicide bombers from $10,000 to $25,000," Leno said after an Iraqi officer killed four American soldiers in a suicide attack on Saturday.
"What's next? a health care plan?" ( Jey Leno)
"American and British troops handed out food to hundreds of Iraqis. Not surprisingly, Iraqis handed the British food back."

The photos are available to view on this site. The effects of the US use of depleted uranium tipped shells and 12 years of imposed sanctions, though not widely reported on Fox News or BBC News, are evident. I hope this can open your eyes to the reality of US/UK led actions. If not let me know and I can show you some more photographic evidence and independent texts.

| Posted by: Marc Flemming | | Dubya said in his interview on "NBC Nightly News" that he'd frequently pop out of meetings to catch TV appearances by former Iraqi information minister and media darling Mohammed Al-Sahhaf,: "He's my man; he was great. Somebody accused us of hiring him and putting him there. He was a classic." | | Reply To this Message

OH YEAH!!! They seem pretty independant, im sure they wouldent do anything improper to advance their agenda.
You could care less if they were lies, as long as they're lies you can use. You're a simple reactionary puppet, and you have my pity.

You are quite the sucker - but not alone.
Please provide me with the scientifically control based statistical evidence that links DU to anything. Regarding our horrible media, you might consider the fact that even our congressional channel C-SPAN shows 30 minute and 1 hour news broadcasts from countries around the world - France, Canada, Egypt, Germany, BBC, Abu Dabi, Qatar, etc.
I'll bet you could walk into any hospital in the world, find sick kids, then post it to a web site and make any claims you want and sure enough you will find people who believe you.
I'm thinking of changing my signature quote to: And god said - LET THERE BE NO DERTH OF IDIOTS BORN UNTO THE EARTH!

| Posted by: Ireland | | I've heard this arguement before, any picture can be presented with appropriate text for the use of presenting a biased arguement. Generally speaking I agree with that observation, it has occured many times throughout this war. However the pictures provided to you Charles, were obtained from the website of an independant charity organisation that deals extensively and without political judgement, with the casualties that are Iraqi children. Whether you hold this charity with some contempt, I do not know, but thats the way it is. Furthermore, the United Nations deem depleted uranium to be a weapon of mass destruction, look up the official United Nations website or refer to the U.N.I.C.E.F website or try to contact members of the United Nations or Unicef that deal with humanitarian issues specifically in Iraq, this can be done through the internet if so desired. Let me just add this...try to make your points without trying to insult people, no matter how civilised the tone, if you can't get your arguement across without doing so you end up sounding like our good friend rambo. | | Reply To this Message
