i would think alicia keys

I don't like Keys' voice all that much. She's gotten better since her first album though... Actually, I shouldn't say I don't like her VOICE. I should say that I don't like it when she RUNS. Like at the end of her song out now, when she does her run to slow the song down and prepare for the ending... I don't like that run, but I've heard her use similar ones on other songs, so it's one of her favorites.

Mariah Carey has an awesome singing voice. Range, power, clarity, dynamics. I don't like the image she manufactured after getting divorced (her videos make her look like an airhead...), but when it comes to singing, she may be the best.

Even with all of Whitney's problems in recent years, I'd say she's next in line after Mariah. When Whitney is on point, she's incredible.

Beyonce's not too far behind. She's gonna take the torch from Whitney and Mariah and do something spectacular with it.


If we aren't just dealing with R&B and Hip hop for this issue, then I've got some more to add...

Gospel:
- Kim Burrell (unmatched in any genre. The soul of this lady oozes out of every pour, every note she sings is flooded with passion. She's awesome.)

- Yolanda Adams (next in line behind Kim, this woman has power and range, and a big mouth that she opens wide when she's belting out high notes.)

- Cece Winans (smooth and beautiful voice on her. She's been around for a while, and she's solidified her position as one of the all-time greats of gospel)

General Music:

One name: Celine Dion. I don't care if you don't like her style; this twig of a woman can sing with ANYONE. She may very well be the best of all that I've mentioned, cuz she combines great talent with superb range, dynamics, passion, creativity, and a smoothness in her voice that is really unique. I don't like many of her songs, but the ones I do like I enjoy ONLY because she is the one singing them.

Mariah Carey. Definately not Beyonce. Whitney Houston was good before she became a "diva" than it was just screaming.

I would have to say Beyonce cause her voice has gotten much better over the years.And Alicia keys she has a pretty voice.

i goin to have to say beyonce because not only can she sign but she is also a good actor to me u have to be more then a good signer i want to be able to be pleased i everything i see u in

Alicia's voice kinda sounds like she's thirsty especially when she switches between ranges, I like her songs but i don't think her voice is amazing.
I think Beyonce has a really good voice along with Aguiellera, Mariah loses a lot of points because i don't really like her songs.

imma say beyonce', alicia keys, yeah im gonna get hell for this but i think that christina aguliera has a damn good voice when she actually sings and it isn't all done wit the computer (like her first stuff). and celine dion. i get the chills listenin to her man i wish i could belt out something like that...whoa...

Christina aint all dat bad aiight so she a lil' too out therre if ya know what i'm sayin' but hell she doin her thang. However she aint in my list i think Whitney houston would be #1 Chaka Chan#2 and maybe beyonce#3 and Alicia!

You know who else? India Arie. And who can forget Lauryn Hill? Well, I guess I did, but I'm glad she came back to mind.

Y'all i'm gonna hav to say Alicia keys and X-tina cuz they voices iz hot. Alicia keys can sing songs that are just right for her. X-tina can sang any song she wants to and she has a high voice.

i forgot about christina and india arie but both of them have nice voices.

Really? I don't think Amy from Evanessence has anything special and I have heard that she sounds really bad live and can only really sing two or three songs before her voice starts to give out. I think she sounds very average and sounds like any group of girls you hear singing on the school bus or in choirs and stuff. But that's just me.

I saw Whitney @ Disney in her prime. It was probably the early 80's. I dare to say that she was/is the greatest. This is probably before most of you guy's time. Plus, no one has done a better job on the National Anthem. And why haven't I heard anyone(men) say Toni Braxton? Is there a sexier voice? Damn!

I agree. Bodyguard was the last time I thought she still "had it" also. That one track " I have nothing" is powerful. What a set of pipes! And how dare you disrespect Toni

Yeah Whitney used to be AMAZING. I Will Always Love You and I Have Nothing are really incredible songs. I have never heard a cover version that lives up to the original.

Toni Braxton's voice is okay, but not in the same league.

Yeah, I know. I like it because of the soul she brings through her voice. Toni "feels it". That's why I like her( and she's hot ). My wife likes Minnie Ripperton. I must admitt, that girl could hit some notes that I thought were impossible. Mariah has nothing on her IMO.

Minnie Ripperton probably had one of the best voices of all time, along with Karen Carpenter and a few others who are also dead now... at the moment, I don't know, Mariah, Whitney and Toni are all losing steam. Toni has a fantastic voice, husky, and not the typical feminine voice that floods the music market. Like devildog said, Whitney was great around the Bodyguard still... and dare I say, on the Waiting to Exhale and The Preacher's Wife soundtracks she still sounded fantastic. After that though, she just couldn't work it like she used to.


It's really annoying that people could ever consider Mariah in the same league as Minnie Ripperton though! Oh man!

I just thought of another female artist I like a lot and that is Norah Jones. :tu: :tu:

I think that Beyonce is way better than Mariah carey because , maraih mostly just sings high. And beyonce' has thr whole package. And Alicia keys is good too. She plays the piano and sings thats an extra point. But I'd have to go with beyonce' cause I love the way her voice sounds. My favorite song of hers is Dangerously In Love. I think she does better without the rest of Destiny's Child.

What about Mary J. Blidge??

mary j blige can't sing she sounds like a distressed dog i mean when she tries to hit a high note its like ouch! and she sorta screams her way through songs.

i don't think that mary j. blige is a bad singer she has a nice voice she has a different voice from these other singers least you can tell its her when you hear her songs on the radio.i lke her voice

I heard her when I was in England. She is alright. Nothing special though.

I only ever liked Beverly Knight's first album... Down For The One and Flavor Of The Old School are classics.

Mary J. is definitely a good singer, she has the grit of a true soul singer. Unfortunately her music was better when she was down and out... but that's the way it goes, I guess.

Chaka Khan was amazing until the whole drug abuse thing.

Generally speaking the siblings of famous people never do as well as the original one. But you never know, a few have broken the rule and made it. I have nevcer actually Solange though, so I don't know in this case. If she is as good as Beyonce than cool, bujt she would have to be REALLY good to be able to have Beyonce's success without being seen as a copy cat and riding on B's success.

To be honest personally i think she won't cuz i mean theres rumours of her being pregnant and she's married. Although she did do a movie so maybe in a few years she'll settle down to acting but singing is beyonce's thing.

Beyonce is no where clos eto having the best voice in the business....I'm going to say Patti Labelle has one of the best voices and sounds better at 60 than she did when she was younger. Whutney, Mariah, Celine in the hey day were incredible....and no one can touch them but given whitney and mariah's decline and problems they obviously lack the vocal power they once had...but still considered the greats. Christina Aguilera has an amazing voice she just need sto calms her "runs" on songs down. Yolanda Adams and Cece winans also make the list....when I think of best voices ...I think of people who can SING and will have staying power in the industry.
