That is too bad. He would have been great. Is it true that they only hire English actors for the parts in the movies?

That's what JKR specified when they bought the rights to make movies out of her books.

I am sorry, but that sucks. There are very talented actors *cough* John Malcovitch* cough* who would be perfect for the roles.

Oh come on that's not right. She gets her millions from all around the world, so why would she necessarily have to thank the States? Also, I think when it comes to foreign characters in the story, she'll get some foreign actors. I don't think she's doing it as a personal attack on Americans at all.

I think only having English actors is a pretty good idea, and I kind of admire her for sticking to this ideal of hers. For one thing, the characters' actors will be less known, making them a little more interesting and new to an untrained eye. Also taking emphasis of "oh such and such an actor is in this" and helping put more attention on the story itself. Also, they'll add a certain amount of authenticity to the characters, as the actors are, indeed, English, from their look to their speech and manurisms.

Also, and this is pretty important, Hollywood is doing fine. The English movie scene, on the other hand, has been going down hill for a while. I think JKR is actually encouraging the growth of the English acting community and movie industry as a whole. Good for her.

Well, that's just me though.

I don't think it is anti-American at all. I just wish that great actors like JM were able to be in the movies. She limited the films by only wanting Brittish actors.

The United States is a huge country. We contributed greatly to her current wealth by the sheer amount of Harry Potter books and merchandise that was purshased here. It's a size thing.

But you're (well, mike was) talking like England and the USA contribute to the bulk of her income, but they don't. You've also got hundreds of millions of Asians, and people in the rest of Europe... I know Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix has sold 2 million copies in Taiwan alone. And that's just the most recent book's (and only the Chinese version, the English version sold a hell of a lot more before it was released) sales on a tiny little Island.

She isn't limiting the movies at all. She's got a strong story (as I figure you know) and they'll get the best directors they can get (which she definately hasn't limited to English people) that's all there is to it. There's yet to be one cast member that I've been disapointed with, and it'll remain that way, I figure.

I can't imagine myself sitting in the theatre saying to myself "darn I wish that was John Malkovic".

Maybe it is just an American thing. $93.5 million in movie sales for the U.S. and Canada during the SS opening weekend. It broke all records here in the U.S. We did not do it all, but for 1 country, we sure like to shop and spend money.

Sure, that's why you guys make majority of the world's movies (well, unless you count India.... I personally wouldn't sorry M, just kidding)

I like that I did not know all the actors. I would have hated to see famous people cast as the kids.

I think that it's great that they aren't using American actors.
Why, you ask.... well, I'll tell you.
I think that it's great that we're getting to see new stars rise.

That and Hollywood would have ruined this great series.

Yeah... I mean, Hermione would have huge boobs, snape would be drooling over her, the weasley twins couldn't concentrate on anything because of her, Harry and Ron wouldn't be able to do much but rise to the occasion!

Professor McGonagall would have been Susan Sarandon or someone like her-but her boobs are real.

Oh yeah... Dumbledore would have been Tom Cruise, running around in a loin cloth.
Harry would have been played by Brad Pitt, and Hermione would have been Jennifer Aniston.

I thought some of this stuff was possible at first; now not so much
