I have not been as active in here because I have been busy trying to keep the Harry Potter forum alive. So much work......
Perhaps we can take tales from the Sil. and discuss them in individual threads?

Over at councilofelrond.com we go a little beyond just the books and movies. That's what keeps it alive there. We should do that here too. The Hidden Meanings thread is a great start. We can discuss the anti war message, the Industrial Revolution, conservation and deforestation, world mythologies, and religious subtext. These were major themes in Tolkien's books. I also like Sherry's suggestion of breaking up the Silmarillion into individual threads. Maybe we can resurrect dead threads too. What about the other Tolkien books? I would be interested in reading them if I know I have you guys to discuss it with. I don't know how far that will take our small group, but we can give it a shot. The forum isn't dead yet. And when the DVD comes out it may spark back to life a little.

well anythings worth a shot in my book. lets give the hidden meanings a whirl both here and in the LOTR forum (people seem a little more active there)

Another suggestion...cleaning up some of the threads. I know I am one of the guilty parties. *shame* A lot of really good threads got really really off topic. An example is the Maiar thread in LOTR. It started out really good, but then got really off topic. Can some irrelevant posts be deleted? Do you have the power to do that?

Okay, now I'm on a roll...Games!

We already have the Trivia and This or That, but we could come with others too. And bring back the Caption game. Misty, Pip and I were interested in doing it, but none of us know how to post pictures that aren't attachments.

What about group stories? We had a thread like that in LOTR, but it died. Maybe start another one.

As a mod I can and will delete posts that go to far off topic in my opinion. I think I'll probably be a bit more lenient than KJ or Fuscia, but they had to deal with LOTR at its peak of activity. Currently I'll be focusing on deleting OT posts in threads that are still alive. Dead threads are hardly ever looked at, due to people not wanting to look several pages back for something.
We do have OT threads in each forum, but i believe they require a bit of resurrecting.
As for the caption game idea, it was pretty fun. However, I currently don't have the time to go hunt down pictures and post them.
The group story idea is a good one, but I personally would prefer it if you tried to keep it a little more serious than the last one.

Sub forums can help with the dead threads. We have soooo many good threads. They just need some attention.

Shadow, you can also just split the stuff into a new thread. Let me know how I can help keep the forum alive. I will try to start reading more of the Sil. now that my kids are out of the hospital.

And I know there are other INReview members who have read the books and have seen the movies, but don't post here. Perhaps they are intimidated. Invite them to a Q & A thread. Or maybe they just don't know about us. Is there a way to get the word out that there is a Tolkien thread.

And what other books has Tolkien written? Most of us have read Sil at least once. Now we can get into the other ones.

Isn't there the Book of Lost Tales? I will put that one on my birthday list. With these hospital bills, I won't be buying books for a while.
