Legolas and his lack of interaction with the 4 hobbits

Just a casual observation. In the movie, Legolas interacts very little with the four hobbits. Not just with dialogue, but with any kind of interaction. He interacts with all the other members of the Fellowship, though. In the movie, I think the only hobbit he talks to is Frodo, and that is at the Council when he offers him his bow. He interacts most with Aragorn, Gimli, and Gandalf. I understand that he is with them more than the hobbits, but even when they find Merry and Pippin at Isengard in ROTK, Legolas doesn't say anything to them. His time with Pippin is short, but he doesn't even really speak to Merry, who stays with them for part of the 3rd movie. I'm just curious. I don't think they interact too much in the book either. Does anyone have a possible guess as to why?

Well, my guess is that Legolas is so pretentious and stuck up, that he has to walk everywhere with his head held high, and his nose in the air... and that is why he never talks to the hobbits, because he can't even see them, he doesn't even know they exist

Even in ROTK during the Two Little Hobbits Jumping On The Bed scene, Frodo doesn't say his name, justs smiles at him. There is like no bond between him and the hobbits at all. I just thought it strange.

Yea it is rather strange. Never noticed it till you mentioned it though heather, but now that I think about it I don't know how I could have...Does it ever say anything in the books about Legolas's or all elves for that matter relationships with hobbits?

I know that the elves and dwarves don't get along, but I don't remember anything about hobbits.

There is some interaction in the books, more than the movie, but even in the book they don't interact too much. Hmmm.

I think we need Shadows or Tigers help...Or maybe Pip could help us out, since she knows so much about hobbits

The Exiled elves at the begginning of FOTR have a fairly large amount of interaction with Frodo, not to mention the fact that they were following his actions in the Shire closely.

yep..... and that is about it. I think that (in my opinion, I could be wrong) Elves consider themselves above Hobbits just as much as they feel they are above dwarves... it just that Gimli and Legolas actually built a friendship. They didn't start interacting with each other much until they were all seperated... that was when the friendship really started.

I completely agree!!

Or maybe there is no explanation at all and I am just reading too far into it. Elves are kind of aloof anyway!

I agree with Sandy. Legolas is so busy skating on stairs and oliphaunts and what not that he doesn't even know that hobbits even exist.

On a more serious note, I suppose that is just how he is. Sometimes we know people but we just never really build friendship with them. But I agree, it is unusual not to have at least some interaction.

I also think that legolas was too stuck up for the hobbits. I also think that he was a serious elf and was concentrating on the task at hand, but mostly stuck up.

It could be that Legolas didn't like them BUT my guess is that he is an elf.

Simple statment I know but, Elves feel evil more than men or hobbits or dwarves so it could have been that Legolas was too caught up in his own worry and fear to acknowledge the hobbits.
