I won't waste too much time on this one because, well, what's the point? It's a casual hate, this one, not a poisonous one, though everytime I see him doing that tiresome "I am mean, yes I am -- yes yes" pose, the one where the chin is held at the 45 degree angle, I consider how amusing it would be if a baseball bat slammed into his unprotected balls. Granted the talk about his own supposed hilarity and all that, and I guess there's an argument being advanced that if one worships South Park one worships him, except that I think the brain caliber involved is different.
The supposedly 'mad skills' aren't there from what I've heard; he just sounds like about most of the frat guys around here -- from wildly different backgrounds, I should note -- who pretty much all deserve to be killed, while he's only getting airplay on certain stations because he's white, so to hell with it. Nick Cave does funnier 'ha! I killed my girlfriend' tunes, and the one vague note of interest was that "Stan" song, except nothing's more annoying than a dumb**** who, having told an obvious joke, then proceeds to explain the joke in pointless detail. Had the song ended up in a murder/suicide pact, I would have been the one guy standing next to the carnage who shrugs, says something flip to the Nearby Friend with the Cool Haircut, and wanders off whistling in a blaze of lens flares and rotating camera angles around slow motion bullets while CGI scripts collapse around me in an orgy of Roman Empire style decadence. This while a Slipknot song plays, I'm sure.

Does anybody believe what he says? in the old days, when rap, hip hop and R 'n' B were just getting off the groung, the songs were meaningful. People chatted about what it was like to live thier lives on a day to-day-basis. They spoke the truth and 'told it the way it is'. Now though, its more about who can come out with the best one-liners and sell the most CD coppies. Groups back then didn't aim for the charts like todays do. They couldnt give a damn about reccord sales or publicity, they were more interested in making sure they were heard and that they got the respect they deserved.
With todays poor excuse for 'music artists', they have to make stuff up, and not 'tell it like it is' just to be seen as the most 'dangerous' or 'ciminaly hardened' lyricist there is. Nothing goes on in their small, insignificant lives enough for them to chat about.
Its all about money, reccord sales and promotions on the side of Pepsi bottles.
Anyone can write these lyrics, its just a bunch of words thrown together so they can make more money, but if i was trying to write back in the 'early days' then i would find myself having my work cut out, seeing as i dont live 'where its at' or 'in da hood'.

First off... Eminem is better than bad, he's good. But i am SO SICK AND TIRED of "rap fans" who've only seen what TRL calls hip-hop saying that he's the best, or on the top of the list, or anything else like that. I understand that white people love him because of his um... whiteness... but stop trying to act like he is the greatest practitioner of the art alive... please.

his flow is agile, but his metaphors are weak to nonexistent, his punchlines don't always punch, he's really not all that socially consious and his lyrics are only thought provoking compared to the trash TRL plays. i'm not dissing eminem here. he's one of a the good rappers we have out now, i'm not dissing ALL of his fans, but I do feel like if you think he's the best, you either don't know hip-hop, or don't want to know hip-hop.

Well I'll admit I don't know much of anything about hip hop! I'm a pretty new fan. But I listen to the local hip hop stations a lot and I like Eminem the best because his lyrics are the most interesting to me. I don't mind rude or vulgar or cynical music, but I really hate BORING music.

Canibus Is the world's premier battle rapper if you're into that kinda stuff (he beat eminem at the blaze battle championships) Check out "2000 BC" or "rip the jacker" by him. KRS-One is arguably the greatest rapper ever, Rakim is called "The God" by other rappers for a reason, Nas' illmatic album is great, Stankonia and Aquemini are bumpin' albums and if you can get past the great beats you'll realize Andre 3000 is ALWAYS spitting something incredibly deep and flawless.
