Hand power to Iragi Governing Council and then blame them for Iraq |
| Posted by: h@ts | | Since the insurgency and trouble with the Shiites and Sunnis, there's been no talk about missing WMD. Are we still looking? Or for that matter what's happened about the links between Bin Laden and Saddam Hussein?
Bush is still determined to hand power over to someone on June 30th but it's a meaningless gesture. If Bush isn't willing to hand control to the UN then he sure isn't giving any real power over to a bunch of Iraqis in Baghdad. Bush/Bremer have veto on anything the IGC do anyway, although Bush will then at least have someone else to blame
June 30th is a symbolic gesture and like the other things that were supposed to make a difference in Iraq - capture of 52 Iraqi playing cards, death of Saddam's sons, capture of Saddam, thing's keep getting worse and more people keep dying. June 30th is going to be no different. | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: Barbed wire | | The problem of Americans is that they're trying to solve the issue with military means only. But the issue is of political nature, not millitary one.
What an army can do? Genocide all the Iraqis? Sure. But are the Americans going to do this? No.
So to find loyal leaders is just necessary. And while a leader of Sunni Muslims has no athority for a Shia Muslim, or vice versa, the occupied Iraq should be split into three parts: 1. for Sunni, 2. For Shia, 3. For Kurds.
And order-keeping forces should be staffed with native Iraqis.
As far as I understand the US goals are:
1. WMDs - so search for them
2. Fighting terrorism - so control the territory in the way that terrorists cannot base in Iraq.
Other issues especially of Iraqi well-being is a business of Iraqis themselves as it should be. | | Reply To this Message
