| Posted by: mystic | | Okay...quick rundown of what I thought....(in no order of any kind)
George....wasnt his best...but I dont think it was terrible by any means.
LaToya...VERY well done!
Fantasia....I grew up watching musicals, and I love Porgy and Bess...she blew me away with this song! I agree with Randy...it was an incredible performance!
Diana...It looked to me like she was still feeling really sick...it kind of showed in her face..I felt bad for her...but I didnt think she was bad...but I agree..she is young and she needs to show more of herself.
Jasmine...Hmmm...I wasnt impressed by her tonight....not bad, but not great.
JPL...I was having fun watching him...he wasnt bad.
John Stevens...One of his better performances...finally....but I agree with Simon...the guy has no personality at all....and Im really getting sick of the finger snapping.
Jennifer...great voice control again this week....she is like last years Kim, and by that I mean she is starting to take the critiques and use them to her advantage..good for her!
NOW...who should be voted off? Well, I dont know...so Im gonna have to go with who I think will be voted off.
Its not that I agree with it at all...but she has been in the bottom too many times, so I think it will be Diana, but personally, I dont want to see that at this point...Id like to see more of her. I feel bad because I could tell she was sick and I hate to see that be her downfall this week...but I think it may be. I wouldnt mind being wrong in this case though. | | Reply To this Message

I totally agree!
I thought it was an odd choice...BUT, I was like "FINALLY" a guest judge who isnt afraid to speak his mind!
They need to have judges like this ALL THE TIME! (In that I mean, ones who arent afraid to say what they really feel).

| Posted by: bsktbllgyrl03 | | GEORGE - WAS NOT HIS BEST PERFORMANCE BUT STILL I LOOOVE HIS VOICE AND I THINK HE WILL MAKE IT
JOHN PETER LEWIS - THIS WAS HIS BEST PERFORMANCE HE GOT THE CROWD INTO IT AND I LIKED IT A LOT
JASMINE - I THINK SHE DID GOOD BUT SHE CAME AFTER THE WRONG PERSON SHE SHOULD HAVE GONE AFTER DIANA OR SOMETHING NOT FANTASIA (NO OFFENSE)
JOHN STEVENS - NO COMMENT
DIANA - SHE HAS REALLY DECLINED IN HER SINGING AT FIRST I REALLY LIKE HER SHE WAS ONE OF THE BEST BUT NOW ..............................????
JENNIFER - I KNEW SHE WAS GOING TO SING A SONG FROM THE BODYGUARD BECAUSE THAT IS HER. I THINK JENNIFER HAS FOUND HERSELF IN THE COMPETITION AND SHE IS THE MOST IMPROVED
LATOYA - EXCELLENT SHE WAS GREAT BUT SHE ALWAYS IS HOWEVER I DID NOT THINK IT WAS HER BEST PERFORMANCE IM NOT SAYING THAT IT WASNT GOOD IT JUST WASNT THE BEST OF THE BEST
FANTASIA - THAT GIRL HAS PURE TALENT. SHE CAN SING A FAST SONG AND HAVE EVERYONE ON THIER FEET AND SHE CAN DO EQUALLY GOOD WITH SLOW SONGS SHE REALLY HAS THE POTENTIAL TO BECOME THE NEXT AMERICAN IDOL
TELL ME WHAT YOU THINK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: Heatherhobbit | | George-I kind of liked his performance tonight. It wasn't a good song selection however. He could have done better, but I enjoyed it.
LaToya-She always sounds good! She already sounds like a star.
Fantasia-OH MY GOD!!! She didn't just sing, she lived that song. That performance blew me away.
Diana-I agreed with Quentin...I am so sick of hearing that song. I don't care if she can sing it, well. And thought she sounded a little off key anyway.
Jasmine-Not impressed by her. The flower was cute at first, now it's a little annoying. Yeah, she has a nice voice, but she isn't a "performer"
Jon Peter-I love his personality. He has fun. And I thought his voice sounded great! The best I've seen from him so far.
John-I was bored to tears. It was torture. The finger snapping is beyond annoying now.
Jennifer-Okay. I enjoyed the song, but I didn't really feel it. She's a good singer, but no one can do a Whitney song like Whitney. Sorry. | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: oldbutafan | | WOW ! THIS ... tonight's show ... has us headed towards what we have been waiting for ! I really enjoyed it.
...................
George: Dang ! Why did George pick this song ? But would another song have been better ? Also .. his voice sounded really bad tonight. Hoarse maybe ? Flat, weak, out of his range and "Ouch" with the falsetto at the end. Odds are he'll stay but is he sick too ?
Jennifer: I have been TELLING you all Jenn has great pipes ! I was worried she would oversing this and she didn't. She controlled and this was a great performance ... she had everything and the only thing I did not like was how that dress fit her.
JPL: Yep ... JPL is back and he rocked the house. What fun. Even his awkward movements were forgivable and he sounded very good. I was entertained !
Diana:Shocker as I'm no Diana fan, but she did better than I expected. I knew she was still sick, and I too am tired of the song, and she again did not connect. I think she did okay though and I hope she goes on for one more week and that Simon can remember her name.
Fantasia: I am sick of the signature Yeah-yeahs. Oh I thought she did well enough but magical ? Honestly ? It sounded like church music to me. At least she took off the black and put on a Summertime dress.
Jasmine: This is the second or is it 3rd week that she disappointed ? Is she also still sick ? I did NOT fall in love with her rendition of this song at all. ( In his critique of Jasmine, did you hear Simon say she was like "Diana HUFF" ?)
John S4: Finally. He did a great job with this and hopefully as time goes by he'll stop snapping his fingers. He could/should have, but did NOT sing or end this song totally in "crooner" style, but I'll explain another time. I hope that he stays to sing another day.
Latoya: I have heard this song sung by the best and the worst and maybe Latoya was a tad better than other weeks, but I think it was just alright -- except for the final note. Somewhere, she should have found the power of the story and delivered it with this song. She did not. No feeling and her Somewhere took ne nowhere.

| Posted by: Lawless | | I think that LaToya and Fantasia were just absolutely wonderful tonight.
Jennifer was pretty good... but she was a little off in a few places. Still good.
Finally, John sang a song, and genre, that is him. Stop snapping the fingers though... my cats expect treats.
Diana and Jasmie were okay...
George was pretty good.
I'm sorry JPL fans, but he's "cute" and not a performer in a serious way. Just my opinion.
I would say that he should go, but he's got too many little teenie boppers that will vote for him based on looks alone, and not on talent. I also think that he's just in need of someone to teach him how to dress, and dance. | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: purplefish | | Get ready America! Ryan is our date tonight, so he says. He's taking all 30 million of us to the movies! Woo-Hoo! I want to see that movie where Paula picks anyone but Leah for her wild card! Please, please! It'd be my favorite!! I know, I know, a fool's dream, and I'm the fool. Our guest judge tonight is movie director and geek for life, Quentin Tarantino, who claims to be anxious to dole out his two cents. Hooray...
Leading off, is the rough, tough, undeniable George Huff!! He starts off talking about his favorite movie, THE WIZ, and I immediately cringe. Please, no more of THE WIZ. Number one, it has Michael Jackson, and two, last season, Charlie's "You Can't Win" was bad enough to make me never want to hear any mention of THE WIZ again. Thankfully, he reveals, he is singing " Against All Odds" from the movie of the same name. George, George, George. Where is the Joy, man? I capitalized Joy because George has his own trademarked Joy when he sings. But it's nowhere to be found tonight. We get the same Serious George we had during country week, and the judges side with me. They hate the song choice, and just give him okay remarks, with Simon saying it's George's weakest to date. Please don't keep the Joy all to yourself George. We miss it.
Jennifer Hudson reveals her favorite movie to be Sister Act 2, one of my personal favorites. I think had Camile stayed, we would have gotten Lauryn Hill's take on Joyful, Joyful from that tonight. I can dream can't I? Anyway... Jennifer looks great in a nice, elegant black dress and muscles her way through "I Have Nothing" from THE BODYGUARD. She has a commanding presence and gives a powerhouse performance. Even so, a part of me keeps comparing it to Trenyce's vulnerable take on it last season. As good as Jennifer is tonight, she makes the song sound like a threat should her man decide to leave her. The judges rave of course and hint that she could be a new front runner. Simon says two of the other girls who he won't name (but I will! Fantasia & Latoya) must be sticking pins into a little doll right now.
Jon Peter admits to liking DEAD POETS SOCIETY as his favorite and then belt's out Elvis' "Jailhouse Rock." I'm sure you get the connection. Huh? As I watch, I think JPL seems very disconnected with the song. All the moves are mechanical, and perhaps it's because he is keeping track of the lyrics on the big screen in the audience, but he always has this blank, dazed look on his face. His singing is solid though and only his style can be contested with. All the judges but Simon have chosen to embrace it, with Quentin calling him the geekiest rocker ever. Coming from Quentin, that means sooooo much!! Simon declares it to be awful and admits that he's confused. Is it American Idol, or Comedy Idol?
Diana emerges in her own long black dress after naming the box office clunker BOWFINGER as her favorite movie. Diana's strength is her energy and cuteness, so I don't know why she chooses to stop the world and sing "My Heart Will Go On" from TITANIC. She still sounds a bit ill, and her voice does not suit the song at all. She gives no hint of emotion whatsoever and that really isn't a good thing when you're singing a slow, syrupy ballad. The judges give her props for hitting the notes, but call it "just good" at best. Simon says it mechanical and predictable after Quentin steals his line and says "so what?" about her performance.
Fantasia should marry our guest judge and keep her surname. Fantasia Barrino Tarantino. Yikes! Maybe not. I will admit that she is the best singer in this competition. As we see her talk about FINDING NEMO, she is wearing a cap sideways and looks very much more the teenager that she is. But when she sings "Summertime" from PORGY & BESS, she is sitting on the stage and gives a truly dramatic, emotional performance. She feels every word of the song and there is no one who could refute the depth of what she just shared. Randy stands, Paula calls it Oscar worthy, Quentin says she's the bomb, but of course he tells her to bring the funk back. Everytime she gives a nice emotional performance, someone keeps telling her to go crazy. C'mon people! I know you're trying to find a radio 'hip-hop friendly" new star, but if she wants to sing with soul, let her, dang it. I actually enjoy her then. So no doubt, we'll get a wacky, sassy Fantasia next week.
Jasmine says LILO & STITCH is her favorite movie, so she automatically gets props from me, and she chooses to sing Celine Dion's "When I Fall In Love" from SLEEPLESS IN SEATTLE. Jasmine has gotten sloppy. Maybe she's still sick too, but her notes are all over the place. Not as bad As Johnny's "My Girl," but I am not enjoying this at all. Just... no thanks! Randy says it aiight, Paula dares to go as far as "good" but Simon says she and Diana are children trying to sound like adults and her performance could have come from any hotel lounge.
Only two left and Heeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeere's Johnny! Mr. Stevens cites "Aladdin" as one of his favorite movies and soundtracks, but he nicely chooses to croon again, namely "As Time Goes By" from the classic CASABLANCA. Well, John has a sharp white jacket on, but somehow they buzzed the sides of his head and now he looks loke some sort of funky monkey. I don't know about these stylists. They must trade off, because one week the contestants will look great and the next week, well... John got that person this week. But on a good note, John sings with the most confidence I've seen yet. He's right up front, making a truckload of eye contact, and almost not able to refrain from busting out a smile during the whole song because he KNOWS he got it tonight. It's perfect. Randy is all grins and gives John credit where it's due. Paula babbles again, but she has a huge smile on her face, so we'll take it that she liked his song. Quentin confesses to not being a fan of John's but says he really did a terrific job. Simon also praises John, but says John's only problem is a lack of charisma. I actually think in contrast to all the bold personalities in this season, John's quiet humility is helping him.
Finally we get to see Latoya - in a towel no less! I'm serious. She and the other seven are singing "Splish Splash" while pretending to color their hair with Herbal Essence products. All the guys are shirtless and everyone is wrapped in big towels. Well, everyone who wanted to gawk over Clay last year, can see what a pale skinny guy looks like with no shirt. LOL, John is pasty white but they seem to insist on showing him more than the others! Yikes! I should be used to it since that's what I see every morning in the mirror, but it's still a bit wierd to see such paleness flickering on my TV.
Okay, NOW we see Latoya, still with her short hair, but it's swept over in some page-boy 'do. Like Fantasia, her favorite movie is FINDING NEMO and she also sings a broadway inspired song like Fantasia. I will say this is the first time I've heard "Somewhere" with R&B nuances in it. Latoya is on the money every note and really fantastic. She can't compete with Fantasia in terms of emotion, but the power and the voice were certainly there. The judges all shower her with praise. Paula even tells her "you are." Well, if that doesn't just define everything? Simon looks like he's going to add a "but..." after his praise, but he pauses and then the music kicks in and we are DONE!
Okay, worst tonight were Diana and Jasmine, the sickees, if you will. But whatever the reason, they didn't shine at all. George gave his weakest song to date, but he's never ever been bad, I still think he can easily make the finals. So , who's gonna go down with the ship? Yup, I say Diana. Jasmine should pick up Camile's Hawaiian votes and make it through to next week, and I think Diana's gonna feel the chill tomorrow night. Nice girl, but not good enough. | | Reply To this Message

Sooner or later I would think that people are gonna get sick of it...of course I say that every week and JS is still never in the bottom...I dont get it....when are people gonna really listen to this guy and say "he just cant cut it with the rest of the group."
Im tired of the same stuff from him...if he isnt in his genre, then he cant sing it, and if he is in his genre its still stale!!!
I believe it has to happen soon!! This cant just keep going on.

They don't care if jpl or js sing..."my bologna has a first name and it is O S C A R..my bologna has a second name M A Y E R" they could sing that and they would think those two are the greatest. I am going to be livid if either of those two end up in the top 3!!! | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: Delta | | I have read over eveyones reviews and I agree with most of them, however something is really bothering me. Its the ages of the younger ones like John Stevens 16. Diana, 17, and Jasmine is I think 17.
In my opinion these kids are just that, kids. They shouldn't be on national TV while they are in their low to middle teens.
It is too much pressure o them. Diana and Jasmine have had to sing while sick, probably their immune systems are not mature enough to take the 24/7 constant rehershing and running and doing commercials and then a group song.
Thats a lot. Remember last year our finalists were in their twenties, the peak of life ( I can still remember)
Just feel that American Idol should be limited to persons over twenty.
JMO Anyone agree with me?

| Posted by: fuscia | | Overall they all sang better this week.
John Stevens at last picked the right song for his voice. He sounded very good.
Jennifer, more yelling, but did a great job.
Fantasia yelled as usual, but sounded very good. I hated the dumb hand movements. This is a singing competition, not Broadway. She was not blasted for the theatrics like a guy would have been.
George Huff picked the wrong song. Against All Odds is a song only Phil can sing.
Diana, yes we are so sick of that Titanic song. Bad choice.
Jasmine sang well, but no connection to the audience.
JPL-well, he did his thing and was amusing, but I hate Elvis.
Latoya-was awesome. My favorite of the night.
Time to comment on Simon and the younger singers. If he does not like that they are singing mature songs, would he really like it if they sang teeny-bopper songs? I think not.
I think Diana will go home this week. | | Reply To this Message

Yeah...I do. I think they should not only put an age limit on the top age but make a limit to the lower age as well....
For the most part, I think they should at least have graduated from high school already. There is no need to put that much more added pressure to their already hectic schedule.
Id say at making the lower age at least 18 and maybe make the higher age limit a little higher...like 28-29.

Im thinking he meant it, not by the song choices, but by the way they carry themselves personally on stage. They try to sing and connect like adults but are still not mature in their comfort and abilties as someone more seasoned would be.

| Posted by: Scurvy | | George: Against all odds
Still reasonably good but didn't wow me as much. Still worth keeping in the competition though. The only male singer that's got any consistent quality.
Jenn: I have nothing
Definitely improving. I used find her lack of control annoying but she's sorting it out now. She should stay.
JPL: Jailhouse Rock
This was a good night for him because he can have the occasional shaky night. He should forget this competition and sing in a rock band as he's not a pop type of singer. I'd like to hear him sing a song by the Doors and I don't even like them that much.
Diana: My Heart Will Go On
Mediocre to OK singing but as per the popular opinion, this song is terrible and she bugs me. First candidate to go this week.
Fantasia: Summertime
Pretty good as usual. I can't really say anything bad about her when I look at the majority of her rivals.
Jasmine: When I Fall in Love
She's deteriorating. Didn't hold notes well and starting to sound ordinary. Another candidate to go this week for me.
John S4: As Time Goes By
OK, this was his chance - a crooner song. As I knew all along, he can't even do that well. He sang better than previous weeks but still way below par to be this far in the competition. I'd like to see him go this week but alas, I suspect we'll be subjected to more because people seem to feel sorry for him.
Latoya: Somewhere
As per Fantasia, she's consistently better than the others. Who cares who wins this, these two could release CD's now. The rest of the pack are also-rans (although as Simon says, Jennifer is catching up). | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: Reptiliana | | I love Quentin Tarantino!!!! I was so happy to see him, and he was the best guest judge in the history of A.I. He was HONEST, which is more than I can say for Paula and the other guest judges.
Fantasia was unbelievable! She really is amazing. I want to hear her sing "Sister" form the movie "The Color Purple".
JPL has so much charisma and I really think he is cute and funny, I just don't think he can sing. He should be an actor.
John Stevens has GOT to go. I do not know how he made it this far. If this guy had been born 50 or 60 years ago, he would have been a HUGE star. Unfortunately, this is 2004, and his crooner-style singing has been out of fashion for several decades, and unlike 60's and 70's fashions, I don't think it will ever come back. He should not be there anymore.
George is wonderful. He picked the WRONG song last night, but I still adore him nonetheless.
Diana is not ready for idol. She's nice and all, but she needs a lot of work.
Jasmine is OK. She hit a couple of sour notes, but overall performed really well last night. And she is so cute! I love the little flower in her hair.
Jennifer has a powerful voice, but she needs to take some of the theatrics out of it. The strong H sounds are a big no-no IMO. She needs to tone down the drama and she could be a winner.
LaToya is a great singer. I just need to see more personality from her or she's gonna get the boot. | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: selah | | well, I voted for Dianna,
here's my one bits worth...
George - very poor song choice, I missed his "dipping", but thought his voice was good as ever in spite of the song..
Jennifer - excellent job!
JPL - even though he is my favorite, I didn't like him singing this song. Like someone else said, he looked mechanical and it just didn't do it for me.
Dianna - thought this was positively painful.. no emotion at all.
Fantasia - fantastic, but I wonder if the young people who vote will get the intensity of it (no offense meant young people)
Jasmine - was deeply disappointed in her rendition of my fav song.
John Stevens - it was great to see him do such a good job of this song.. keep it up John!
LaToya - she sang it well as expected, but I'm sorry, she is just too much the professional for me, I don't think she belongs in this competition.
Time for Dianna or Jasmine to leave.. hopefully George's fans will look past his poor song choice and keep him there. JPL as much as I hate to say it, don't expect him to last much longer... BTW have noticed that every week when they sign off he is standing right next to Ryan Seacrest so he is practically the last person you see. sneaky move JPL...

WHITE JACKET? i suppose they wanted him to look less pale than usual. i heard they cut his hair too, no? well, i'm so thankful for that information. thank you ever so much.. do i dare to go as far as 'did you vote for him tonight?'...ok. maybe thats a little daring...

| Posted by: Bellamia | | Hi I am new here, and find all your postings totally fasinating!! I cannot find many people here that are watching AI, but I am glad I found this forum.
I missed last nights show, My VCR screwed up! I was SO upset, I only caught Jon Stevens and Latoya. I LOVE GEORGE, he is my favorite, But I cannot stand Jon Stevens--bor-ing, and Fantasia has an attitude, I just cannot warm up to her. Latoya is very good. I think Diana Degarmo Jon Stevens and JPL should be in the bottom 3, but Its not going to happen, AMerica loves that redhead and JPL although I cannot figure out why> | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: M0Nk3Y | | george: Gah man he suck last night. i never heard anything so horrible im my life. talk about someone killing a cat. Eck and he ALWAYS smiles whats with that?
jennifer: eck. when she makes her voice go low it sounds horrible and is annoying to the ears.
john peter: man hes cute. i agree with simon though he has a strange voice, but hes a good performer and i liked his performance last night.
Diana: i am a fan of hers. shes got an awesome voice and should NOT be voted off anytime soon.
fantasia: at times she sounds like a little kid. but last night performance got me. it rocked and there for i am a fan. she shoundn't be voted off either.
jasmine: gawd that flower is getting old. to tell ya the truth her voice isnt that great either. and she has no nose. and she always smiles just like george. it gets annoying sometimes you need to put away the smile away.
John stevens: I AM A HUGE FAN. his voice is GREAT! i love his voice. if you just pay attention to his voice and look past the snapping of the fingers and the suit and the red hair no tan. hes great there for hes got my vote 110%. I heard his voice before i saw im and fell inlove with it. then i saw him.. (hes cute)
la toya london: shes got a great voice too. but shes not choosing any good songs to show it off.. she needs to choose better songs. i like the green skirt she had on last week. | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: aannie | | I thought this was one of the better shows this season!
I tend to agree that the bottom 3 should be George(it wasn't his night,)
but when it comes down to it, he probably won't go, De Garmo, wrong song for her, and Jasmine(I feel) blew it! | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: Sand67 | | ooooooooookkkkkkkkkkkkk heres my two cents worth.... George... not our fun loving George but nevertheless he did a decent job, no Phil Collins by any means but not too hard on the ears.
JPL.... looked like a puppet... sang better than he has in previous weeks... hes a cutie but not my definition of an idol...
Thought i was watching karoke...
Jennifer... not bad... still a little loud but is definitely improving.
Diana.... wooden, deadpan face... why oh why would anyone sing that oversung, very vocally challenging... song... poor child.. .her age WAS showing
Jasmine... again vocally challenging... couple of rough spots.. age showing but tolerable... and those jeans and flower REALLY need to go!!!
JS... gotta snap those fingers doesnt he... God Bless him... he has NO rythm, flat affect but did sing better than previously... this was one of his better songs , hair was different but better.. mho
Fantasia... WONDERFUL... seemed to have ditched the attitude for tonight anyway.. so i was happy about that.... clothing choice was great, song was great for her.... judges said magical... i agreee.... and shes NOT my favorite
LaToya, She is my fav but I thought she started off a bit weak... but finished with a huge POW!!!!!!!!! what a voice... shes got some lungs on her... clothing was nice.. a bit funky... but stylish!! she was great
my top 3...
fantasia
latoya
ummm jennifer...
bottom
jpl
diana
