An American man has been arrested for allegedly stalking pop star Avril Lavigne.
James Speedy, 30, was taken into custody by Seattle Police. He is accused of sending the 19-year-old singer harassing letters and e-mails -- the same day Lavigne played a free concert in the Washington city.
Seattle native Speedy was later released on $5,000 bail.
Detective Jerry Reiner refused to reveal the content of Speedy's letters, but said, "These did place the family of Avril Lavigne, and Avril Lavigne herself, in fear."
Officers have been investigating the case since last summer -- when they were contacted by police in Ontario, Canada | | Reply To this Message

Avril Lavigne's stalker investigation has taken a bizarre twist, after police learned the man accused of pestering the star was aided by his wife.
Last month, 30-year-old James Speedy was taken into custody by Seattle police, accused of sending the 19-year-old singer harassing letters and e-mails -- the same day Lavigne played a free concert in the Washington city.
Seattle native Speedy was later released on $5,000 bail. Police say guns and ammunition, computers and Lavigne paraphernalia were found at his home.
But TV show "Celebrity Justice" has now learned that Speedy's wife helped book him into locations where Lavigne was performing -- for the sole purpose of getting closer to the star.
The young singer's parents claim Speedy wrote them letters and once even showed up outside their home in Napanee, Ontario, Canada.
Police do not consider the wife an accomplice in any of the alleged crimes. Speedy has not been charged, but police say they expect charges will come soon. | | Reply To this Message

A stalker obsessed with Avril Lavigne has been charged with harassment -- after bombarding the singer with letters and requests for meetings.
James Speedy will face trial on September 17 for harassing the star with e-mails and for once showing up outside Lavigne's parents' home in Ontario, Canada.
The Seattle native was arrested back in April following a free concert given by Lavigne in the Washington city, and later released on $5,000 bail.
Police confiscated a shotgun, an assault rifle and a pistol from his home.

Guns found in Lavigne fan's home
A FAN of Avril Lavigne has been accused of stalking the pop star’s parents and violating a court order by trying to contact her.
Prosecutors say James Speedy’s obsession began in 2003 when he started writing to the teenage rocker. After finding out where her parents lived, he started writing to them too.
"He sent his letters by FedEx and complained when they were not answered," said Janice Albert, the deputy prosecutor of Snohomish County in Washington state in the US. "In his letters, he discussed (Lavigne’s) family in detail. He sent wine, photos, CDs and requests for contact. They never responded."
In a letter in June 2003 to Lavigne’s family, Speedy, 30, wrote that he was forced to admit his behaviour was comparable to a stalker’s.
He called another letter a "courtesy notification" that he was in Lavigne’s home town in Ontario, promising not to drive by her parents’ house, spy on them or do "anything creepy", Ms Albert said.
In July 2003, Canadian police found Speedy "dirty and unshaven" and parked in a car near the house after he had sent her parents a letter apologising for "intruding, being stupid and stubborn, and putting his needs before theirs", she said.
Despite an anti-harassment order in Canada, Speedy contacted Lavigne’s agent in March about a concert the pop star was to play in the Seattle area the following month.
Speedy was arrested on 7 April after police searched his home in a north Seattle suburb the same day as Lavigne played a free concert at a mall south of the city. Officers found several items related to Lavigne, as well as a shotgun, an assault rifle and a pistol, Albert said.
Speedy was released on bail to appear in court on 17 September. | | Reply To this Message

Pop beauty Avril Lavigne refuses to let stalkers sour her fondness for genuine fans.
Last month, a 30-year-old man was charged with stalking the singer, after he showered her with unwanted e-mails and gifts.
Previously, an overzealous fan was caught digging up Lavigne's parents' lawn, while another presented her with a wedding dress in a box.
But she insists, "I don't mind them. Nothing bad's ever happened. It's a good thing that I have a whole bunch of fans. It's all peaches."
