Britney Says Controversial New Video Is About Reincarnation
In 'Everytime,' Spears dies in a bathtub but is living again by the end.

By Jennifer Vineyard

Madonna's rubbed off on Britney in more ways than one. Spears courts a bit of controversy with her latest video, "Everytime," in which her wrist spontaneously starts bleeding.

Premiered Monday on "TRL," just one day after Easter, "Everytime" doesn't quite go the length Madonna's "Like a Prayer" did to invoke stigmata, but what first appears to be a red Kabbalah bracelet on Spears' wrist becomes a line of blood, only made apparent when she pulls her hand into a bathtub and a small red fog appears in the water.

Instead of taking her own life as described in the video's original treatment, Spears instead dies a more mysterious death, since the amount of blood she loses is small — but she slips unconscious under the water nonetheless.

Despite her death, Spears ends up in a white-lit hospital room as a new mother gives birth. The final shot shows a fully alive Spears re-emerging from the bathtub, with a smile on her face. One way or another, she lives again.

"It's more like a movie," Spears explained when she called in to "TRL" on Monday. "It's different than anything I've ever done. It's dark, and it shows me in a different light. Of course, I'm going to go back and do dance videos, but I wanted to be inspired and challenged."

Though she didn't get a chance to say it for herself during her on-air chat, Spears called "TRL" back as the video was playing and asked the show to explain for her that the video's concept was about reincarnation.

Rub-A-Dub, Brit In Da Tub

The theme of the video is to be more of a re-incarnation than of suicide as originally reported.

Everytime Video Synopsis

http://www.everythingbritney.net/gallery/data/thumbnails/78/136.jpg

Synopsis: When it starts, the two are in the limo. Britney Spears tries to talk to him, he refuses to listen yet. The reporters are all swarming with copies of tabloids and magazine articles. On the stand the headlines read: "Britney's Shocking Secrets Revealed" and "Still in Love?". The second is key in that it poses the question she's about to answer in the video.

They make it into the room but there's a heated conversation where Britney asks him (In the hallway when you threw the stuff) "Why though?" and her boyfriend responds "Look, I'm sorry.." and tries to hug her but she pushes him away and cries "Just stop!" He proceeds to tell her "Yeah? Well ***** you!" while smashing a vase. Britney turns away in disgust and goes into the bathroom.

I didn't even notice. Well the rest of the video is sort of detailed in the first two posts. She has a band on her wrist which is some Kabbalah faith band which turns into a line of blood and then she sinks into the bath unconscious and Stephen Dorf tries to rescue her but she dies.

http://www.everythingbritney.net/gallery/data/thumbnails/78/145.jpg

Then she is reincarnated and walks around a hospital or something. I can't find it now, but give me time I am downloading the video now and should be finished in about 20 minutes. I will post more once I have actually seen it.

Man, none of my pictures/ images are staying online very long

OK - so the Video is Britney (as herself) and Stephen Dorf playing her b/f. They are in a limo and he is being an ******* to her then they get mobbed by a crowd of fans and paparazzi and he doesn't protect her she has to be saved by bodyguards and so she goes mental at him, they fight and he thorws stuff and she throws stuff anf t hey yell a bit and then she goes to have a bath and kills herself (or just dies?).

She then "wakes up" in a hospital walking around and watching people. In the meantime Stepehen Dorf has found her body in the bath tub and is trying to revive her and the ambulanace comes and takes her away and even while she's dead on the streacher, fans come up to her dead body with pens and magazines to get autographs.

Then you see a baby being born and it is implied that the spirit of Britney has passed into that baby, therefore making the Video about reincarnation not about suicide.

There you go.

SOMEONE really needs to pop Britney Spears' ego balloon. So she got a No.1 single with Toxic does that give her the right to be so poisonous? For her new video Everytime she's seen dying in a bath after cutting her wrist. But she didn't do it on purpose, so her record company are claiming it's not so bad. And they did change the original video which had her commiting suicide with pills. Since the only people buying her records are, in the main, under 14s any dying image is grossly irrisponsible.

MTV News Poll: What Really Happens in the Everytime Video

It's funny how three minutes can raise so many questions.

We were thrilled to take an early look at Britney Spears' new video for "Everytime" late last week. We even encouraged one of our reporters to write up a preview after that screening, and we published the piece - along with quotes from Britney herself - on Monday.

It seemed simple enough at the time, but it turns out that the clip isn't so clear-cut. Our writer saw Britney's red Kabbalah bracelet appear to turn to blood as the singer slipped into her tub and on to the afterlife. But apparently there's more than one way to watch a Britney video, as a number of you wrote in to share your interpretations (or flat out tell us we were wrong). The responses sent us scrambling back to the tape, where - with the aid of digitally enhanced freeze-frame technology - we can conclusively say without a shadow of a doubt that we have no idea what's going on in that video..

Does Britney suffer a head wound? If so, why isn't she bleeding before entering the tub? Is the fatal wound to the back of her head somehow caused by a camera grazing the side of her head early in the video? If she suffered a life-threatening blow to the head, why doesn't she appear to be in pain? How does she die from losing so little blood? Is seemingly abusive beau Stephen Dorff somehow involved?.

We know this much: Britney says the video is about reincarnation, so her character passes away somehow ... or not, as she is seen emerging from the tub with a wide grin at the end of the video. But how exactly does Britney meet her end (or her near-death experience)?

BRITNEY SLAMMED BY TOP SUICIDE COUNSELLOR

A leading California suicide prevention counsellor has condemned Britney Spears for appearing to commit suicide in her misleading new video.

Britney insists the promo is all about reincarnation, not suicide, but Don Austen fears her young fans won't see it that way.

In the video, Britney is seen stepping into a bath after a row with her boyfriend, and then slipping under the water as her spirit watches the lifesaving efforts going on around her. In a final scene a mother gives birth in a hospital ward, suggesting Spears has been reincarnated as the baby.

But Austen, the founder of Los Angeles' Thursday's Child, insists the eerie video is open to misinterpretation and could encourage troubled teens to take their lives.

He fumes, "Britney Spears is one of the most influential teen role models on the planet, and this video is frightening in terms of its potential repercussions.

"When kids see this video over and over, it has a desensitizing effect. There are a lot of confused kids around, and Britney's not considering the copycat effect. Instead, she's selfishly using controversy to market herself."

No, I dont watch MTV or... whatever the other music channel is called.

I don't know what I'd think if I saw it. It does seem misleading from the discription.

This ^ is supposedly from the version of the clip where she jumps off the balcony to kill herself, so they made a whole heap of different versions. The released one where she dies in the bath, they made one where she OD's on pills and the above one. Why make so many? Is it specifically for the fact that one version might not get good coverage and they might need to tone it down? Why not jsut make one that you know will be good?

BRITNEY SPEARS is set to score her second UK No1 in a row with the ballad Everytime.

She’s well ahead of MARIO WINANS’ I Don’t Want To Know. Earlier this year Britney got her first No1 in fours years with Toxic.

And despite problems in her personal life and injuring her knee after she fell while dancing, her career looks to be back on track.

BEASTIE BOYS will bag the No1 album with To The 5 Boroughs.

Everytime is doing well in Australia too, even though it has really only just been released, I am starting to hear it everywhere on the radio, but have missed all the music shows on TV lately, so I don't know if they're showing the clip. It still might make it to Number 1 here too!

I downloaded the video back when it first came out and it was as I've said in this thread ie: it appears that she dies. But in England I finally saw it on TV and it seems to have a new ending. It is still the same mostly, but at the end she gets out of the bath, as though she was dreaming about dying or just thinking about it or something.

I haven't seen the end of the clip in Australia yet, all our music video shows cut the end of the clkips off to start the showing the next one so they can cram more in. Does anyone know if she was made to change the ending over all that "don't promote suidice" stuff? Has it only been changed in the UK? I can't find any info on it anywhere.

It's nothing extraorindary. It's just one of the main takes of shotting the whole clip, with very few other bits and pieces, one blooper-type bit of Britney and Stephen laughing it up and that's about it. The real video is much better.

Britney's Everytime being auctionned off

http://i14.ebayimg.com/02/i/05/32/26/31_1_b.JPG

DotMusic.com: The share in "Everytime" has been put up for sale on auction website eBay by one of the holders of the copyright to the track, which appeared on 2003's "In The Zone" album.

Music manager Adrian Adams bought his stake in the song, which was co-written by Britney herself, from Annette Stamatelos, who is also credited on "Everytime".

Adams, speaking to Music Week, explained he was hoping to raise around £100,000 in the auction for the song, which was a UK Number One for five weeks. The bidding has started at £15,000.

The successful buyer will be able to collect all the gold and platinum discs it earns, worldwide, alongside all future royalties, which currently stand at £30,000.

Adams explained: "I'm selling my share in the song because I want to do other stuff with the money."

"I thought it would be wonderful to offer this opportunity to the millions of Britney fans all over the world - people who would never normally be in a position to make this type of acquisition."

Bid on the item and learn more about it on eBay.co.uk

quote:
EBay Listing Details:

Starting bid £15,000.00

You are bidding on a seven percent (7%) interest in the hit single, “Everytime.” Only you Britney and her co-writer, A. Stamatelatos will be listed as the owners.
This is an EBAY first. Never before has a copyright interest in a hit song written & performed by a major recording artist ever been auctioned on eBay. It may never happen again.

Can you imagine owing a piece of a Britney Spears hit song that she actually co-wrote herself – a song that will likely continue to earn money for the rest of your life and an inheritance for your heirs?

This ASCAP registered song, “EVREYTIME,” which appears on Britney’s most recent LP, In the Zone, has already sold over 7 million albums worldwide and more than a million singles.

The seven percent (7%) share I own of “Everytime” has already earned approximately $60,000 and the earnings will likely go on forever. You’ll get a check four times a year from ASCAP for performances (radio/TV/film) and checks twice a year from LP sales, ring tones, TV, Film, sheet music, etc.

Imagine your friends’ envy and amazement when they walk into your living room and see dozens of Britney Gold & Platinum discs on your walls – in YOUR name - testimony to the millions of LPs and Singles sold ‘round the world. As one of the three owners of this song – the others are Britney and her co-writer, Annette Stamatelatos; you will be eligible to receive the Gold and Platinum sales awards should you decide you want them.

http://i10.ebayimg.com/02/i/05/37/f6/54_1_b.JPG

If some Hollywood big shot wants to use the song in a film or TV show, they will have to get YOUR approval or they can’t use it. And they will have to pay you. The same goes for advertisers. If another artist decides to record the song, you will make even more money.

It’s impossible to know how much the song will bring in each year because nobody knows how many times the song will be played on the radio; how many LPs will be sold; how much sheet music will sell, or how many times the song is used in films, advertising or TV. But as a rule a song earns 8.5 cents on every record sold and you get paid each time it’s on the radio, used in advertising, in a film/TV, etc.

http://i20.ebayimg.com/03/i/05/32/59/c8_1_b.JPG

I’ll never forget the day I first heard this amazing song. I was in the recording studio with Britney, her manager Larry Rudolph, and her co-writer Annette. Annette had been Britney’s back-up singer and was staying with Britney in L.A. as a friend while Britney was working on her In the Zone LP. I’m a manager in the music business and two of my clients were also in the room that day working with Britney – that’s why I was there.

Anyway, we were all waiting for Britney to show up and when she arrived with Annette she said she wanted to play us a song that they had written up at Britney’s house (at the time) at the top of Doheny Drive in Beverly Hills.

Britney sat down at the piano and sang “Everytime” while she played and Annette sang harmonies. I was blown away. I immediately said to everybody in the room, “this is a hit song.” I acquired my ownership interest in the song from Annette when the song was released.

Many people believe this very special song was written about Britney’s ex-boyfriend, Justin Timberlake and that’s what Annette told me at the time. In fact, Annette told me it’s also about her ex-boyfriend and the two of them wrote the song while commiserating about their ex flames.

In the Zone is certified Gold and Platinum status in virtually every major worldwide territory. In the USA the LP has sold almost three million records or almost 3x platinum.

I haven’t bothered to take the time to collect all the gold and platinum discs but I do have photos here of the gold single award for the UK and the Platinum LP award. I recently ordered the USA double Platinum award and there is a pic here of it being framed before it was shipped out to me.

Many of you will be new to the music publishing business and I will be happy to answer all your questions in detail. Finally the song is currently being administered by major publisher Universal Music Publishing. When the song was first released I did a three year Universal to collect the song income worldwide.

After this deal expires in a year and a half you can keep the song with them [Universal] to administer the copyright or move it somewhere else at your discretion.

The 7% of Everytime sold for more than $170,000

The eBay auction for 7% of Britney's hit single Everytime is over. The winning bid is $171,716. There was a flurry of last minute bidding that pushed up the price of the share.
