blue mohawk on a 6 year old |
| Posted by: fuscia | | AUBURN, California (AP) -- It used to be that schoolchildren might get their mouths washed out for using blue language. These days at Pleasant Ridge Elementary School, they're more likely to have their hair washed out -- for sporting a blue mohawk.
Parents of a 6-year-old boy say they plan to consult an attorney after a school principal washed bright blue dye out of their son's punk-style haircut.
Levey Padocs Jr.'s father said he allowed his son to get the distinctive 'do more than a month ago for behaving better in class.
But parents of the boy's kindergarten classmates complained the haircut would spoil an upcoming class photo, so Principal Derek Cooper said he washed the boy's hair in the nurse's office after getting permission from the boy's mother.
The boy's father said neither he nor the mother approved the washing. They plan to discuss the situation with an attorney.
"Leave him alone. He's not a problem child. He's not hurting anyone," Levey Padocs Sr. said. "He's an individual, and that's how he's expressing his individuality." | | Reply To this Message

But seriously, I can't understand what kind of a parent would let their kid get such a dumb hair cut. If he's behaving better in class, get him a new bike or something. | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: hatchjaw | | Much ado about nothing, I say. A kid that age with a mohawk, and a blue one at that, is not my idea of what a kid should look like. But the boy's father is right, he's not hurting anyone. It's just hair, you know. It's not that big a deal. | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: MistyRainWater6 | | Ok I have to say I am not against mohawks...But seriously, on a 6 year old? And just the fact his parents gave him permission...And if a mohawk itself wasnt bad enough...Blue? Ack, I just don't get people sometimes | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: HECK! | | If anything, the parents should be chastised for bad fashion sense. But if this is a public school, you get in the whole gray area of 'disruptive appearance' and other self-serving rhetoric that allows these one-pump chumps to have unequivocal power over 5 years olds from 8am to noon, milk and cookie time notwithstanding. Parents of other students will say that the Mohawk kid will somehow disrupt their precious offspring, meanwhile they're listening to their brother's Eminem CD right after popping in the South Park DVD. Oh well, here's to the U.S. of A, making a big deal about nothing since the Red Scare.
Ooooooh, that felt like a STHU.

| Posted by: mystic | | I realize 6 year olds have their own personality, as I have a six year old...but the mohawk is expressing his personality? Or is it expressing his parents personality?
I mean lets face it...whose idea was it for this kid to get that haircut? If my son came to me today and asked me for one, which he wouldnt, I would say no...easy as that...and that me expressing my personality about it!
Something is wrong with this...6 year olds just dont go around asking for blue mohawks...too bizarre! | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: gaboman | | You guys don't have school uniforms over there, do you? Every school I went to had a strict dress code, all the way down to your socks and the girl's bra's (no lie). Blue hair of any sort was a no no, as was a mohawk (someone should tell this guy that went out of style in the early 90's). The school really didn't have a problem with you doing that kind of thing, all they asked was that you leave the school and never come back | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: HECK! | | 6 year olds do have forms of self-expression. When I was that age I wouldn't leave the house without a towel around my neck because I wanted to be Superman. Maybe this kid has a fascination for 80's punk. Who knows. I do agree though, more than likely parental influence is involved.
