Hello people of North America,

I hope you don't mind me doing this, but I need to get my thoughts down fully so I can tell you my feelings about the progressing competition.

I'll take my thoughts from the final 12 onwards because before that the competiton was just fun. Now it's become serious.

On the very first show of the top 12 it was obvious who was going out. I kind of felt sorry for the girl because she looked really pretty on the night, but however didn't practice enough on the singing side of it, maybe she was sleepless the night before(!). Inevitably, our Leah from Seattle dropped.

From then onwards it seemed the competition would have a straight forward 'if you're not good enough then you can get lost' attitude from the voters.

But American Idol is never that simple. It never is.

From week one onwards, I felt it was quite obvious that Valesco would hit the dust, she has a weak vocal ability and has absolutley no personality whatsoever. She was weaker than Matt on the vocals and couldn't compare to the presence, influence and personality of the entertaning Matt. However, despite being better, it was Matt that went.

I was left in shock, I loved watching Matt. I liked Matt. I have NEVER liked anyone from any of these idol shows ever. But I liked Matt, even when he sang his final song in the comptiton, he still made us laugh 'Simon when you touch me' remember? It still makes me laugh. But the big man from California is gone. Get over it.

At least we have Amy Adams.

In the second week. She looked gorgeous, she had done something with her hair. Amazing. Simon might not 'get' country music, but I certainly got that. When I saw that performance, I thought to myself 'you know, I wouldn't mind if Amy won the contest, she looks and sounds great'. I was thinking the same thing Friday night (when the show is aired in Europe) when I saw her again. She got voted off.

Personality is there to save you when you have a bad performance. Obviously not in America. Two of the biggest personality traits dissappeared within two weeks.

The competiton is becoming sour.

Here are my thoughts on the remaining 9

Degarmo: My favorite singer so far, she delivers every week, but for some reason, always ends up in the bottom three. Could she be next?

Valesco: Terrible throughout the competition. Always ends up safe on the votes. Why hasn't she gone yet?

Barrino: Cocky and arrogant, I don't like the look she gives when she walks on stage. However you're allowed to be arrogant if you're good. And she is good.

Trias: This is an interesting one. She gives on and off performances. I really don't know what to make of her.

JPL: Has a bit of personality, not a strong singer though. He's OK.

Huff: Unique sound. But not a sound I like.

Hudson: How has she made it past the qualifying rounds is beyond me! But she was good last week. Deserves to be voted off though.

London: Good voice. deserves to stay in the competition on merit, despite being boring.

Stevens: I admit he is special but he's not that special. I would have preferred him to go out rather than Amy.

The Judges:

Simon Cowell: As I have pointed out earlier, he doesn't know everything and has a lot of influence over the voters. But for some, he is the main reason why people watch the show. Conciously or unconciously. He is the show.

Randy Jackson: This guy is wonderful in my opinion. He seems to know his stuff really well. I like his style and I'm growing in to respecting him more and more.

Paula Abdul: A lot of questions need answering about this woman. Doesn't she have anything negative to say about anyone? How did she get that job? Does she know any at all about music? Is she just some pretty chick to sit beside Simon and kiss him when they tell her to? She's a complete puppet of you ask me.

There are my thoughts America. I admit it's long, but it's worth reading.

Thank you,

Firenze

PS It would be nice to have a response from you guys, whether you agree or disagree with what I've said, I would really appreciate it.

Hi Firenze ... I'm behind this week but hope to post some commentary at some time before tommorrow

Besides in the show discussion threads ... we have been posting weekly comments in the thread titled "Who are your Top 3 so far ?"

Some of us have commented on the entire line-up from the beginning in a similar fashion as you have ... so in the interim you might want to take a peek ? :

Here's a link to the thread:

Firenze, great thread. Just because you can't officially vote, does not mean that you don't have an opinion. I feel like I have this bad habit of liking the one that will get voted off. I loved Lisa Leuschner's voice, she got cut. Michael Keown cut at Hollywood. Amy was cut last week.

FYI, Paula Abduhl is a very accomplished singer and dancer! She has won grammy awards and has had many, many hits, and music videos!

Paula has won Grammy's, but her appeal is in her entertaining. She is a fantastic dancer. Paula on voice alone, would not have made it. That being said, she is the "positive" voice on the pannel. I do think she needs to tell them some constructive tips on what to work on. Randy is my favorite of the three.

Please tell me that you like John S!!!

Firenze - interesting post... Camille has not been one of the best performers in any of the weeks so far but alot of ppl have based their support on her from her performance in the auditions and have backed her long enough for her to have hopefully overcome her nerves of performing infront of a large audience. She definitely gave more energy into her performance last week and i was very pleased with that... i'm hoping the next step for her will be to combine that with a good vocal performance to match

I like both Johns, but I don't see John S. as the idol. I do think he will get a career in music at some point, but not doing pop. Still, I like having him around.

I really like John S.'s voice too. However he just seems like someone who is not ready for the big time yet. But maybe in a few years he will. Even if he gets cut on AI anytime soon, it's a really big door opened for him to get noticed by someone else in the future.

You say that to me everytime I start a new thread! Brilliant

OBAF, thank you for the link. I will be reading it and am eager to read your thoughts when you catch up. It's just that I didn't have time to go through all of them. I will go through this one though.

fuscia & JonPeterRocks,

I had NO IDEA Paula Abdul was a singer! It just goes to show how big the music industry is. Could you tell me about the best parts of her career?

jayb47, I don't really have anything against Camille, but do you really think she sounds like Lauren Hill?
