Looks like you wanna sort everything out.

My idea? US went to war for the sake of stabilizing a region, which threatens USA's interests, as well as bringing an oil-rich nation to the global market, - these, i believe, are the main reasons behind this war. This is going to be achieved thru political and social liberty, education for every1, free market, - institutions we've been developing for centuries. Also US had to show off it's power, bombing the hell out of Taliban and Saddam's army.

I think i outlined my position clearly. Pro or anti? Guess.

Lets try to underline the ideas and follow the example.

I think that if this is STEP ONE that you need to go back and highlight some of the events and facts pre war. What prompted the US to even want to do such a thing.

What I meant by step one was to gather the main ideas. If anyone else wants to provide an UNBIASED post on what led up to the War in Iraq Feel Free. It would be an introduction to the Ultimate Guide.

The US went to Iraq to democratize the region.

ANTI WAR
US shunned the international community to go to war

The US went on war without waiting for the inspections to be completed.

The US went to Iraq on false premises: the "tons of WMDs" whose existence could be proved with "clear and convincing evidence" and posed "an imminent threat" were a bogus claim.

1. Gain another oil rich ally in the Mid East
2. Make money from lucrative contracts

It was about the most obvious and compelling observation. All else is secondary.

anti war: Iraq became a ground for every creep to settel his problems with the west

anti war: the complete destruction of what was remained of the infra structure

Pro War: The countries around the world that support terrorism see that the United States is not afraid to take the war to them, on their soil.

Saddam is out of business

Anti War:

There is no guarentee that war will not emanate on our soil because of our lack of focus on real global threat and their efforts by exhausting resources where they are least needed.

PRO WAR

Any nation in Limbo now has to "wake up" to terrorism as the U.S. did on 9/11/2001, thus seperating the doers form the talkers. Less uncertainty in a matter like this is a good thing.

ANTI WAR

It's difficult for out troops to distinguish between an Iraqi Civilian and a suicide bomber--until it's too late. Losing American lives.

Do we even need the rebuttals?

I think you could just group statements opposing each other by categories like you described above, so that we can look at the difference between the sides' argumentation.

That would raise lots of healthy debate, don't you mind gentlemen?

ANTI WAR 1 : you do not fight terrorism by a conventional war.

ANTI WAR 2 : no need of a war to get rid of Saddam. The US proved in the past that with money one can get rid of any dictactor of the world. It is then just a question of will.

PRO WAR : world is better without Saddam (but see above)

ANTI WAR 3 : will it be safer ??

Human life is equally important, regardless of nationality, sex, age, etc. It's sad that we lose hundreds for the sake of saving hundreds of thousands - but we have to.

Pro war: enforcing UN resolutions, giving the word of the UNSC more power.

PRO WAR: 5.5 million Iraqi children enrolled in school.
PRO WAR: Girls outnumber boys.
PRO WAR: Exam week attendance at 97%.

5.5 million children not affected with islamic radicalist propaganda. Sounds fine to me.

ANTI-WAR

The majority populace didn't/doesn't want us there. It is now considered an occupation and they are warring against us and coalition nations. (Note 12-13 Marines Killed Today in Ramadi. Multiply by number of days until end of June, add all humans already lost.)

War is reportedly in response to and to prevent terror but terrorists respond to war with more terror. No lessening of terror or terror threats, but increases instead.

Ron, before the invasion started I think the anti-war marches were about the biggest worldwide protests the world has ever seen.

History told us that the insurgency would happen. From the Indepedant newspaper yesterday: it took the British 3 years to fall out with both the Shiites and the Sunnis. It's taken just 1 year for Bush to do so.

PRO WAR: A majority of Europeans believe that Bush is as bad or worse than someone like Hitler. That is NOT going to affect the way America conducts itself.

Many succomb to the magic bullet theory when Kennedy was killed because of his position on the war.
