| Posted by: schmiggens | | Has anyone heard of Nathan Cavaleiri? (sp?) He is good, I remember he was playing when he was like 13 years old with Tommy Emanuel. He must be about 20-23 now though, does he still play? | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: gaboman | | schmiggens, my parent's house is across the road from Nathan Cavalieri. He's actually still plays the guitar (but I don't think he's recorded anything for a while... not sure). I dunno if you'll find anyone who's even heard of Tommy Emanuel even... though he's one of the best!
Ernie Isley goes in my top 5 guitarist list. His Live Wire album was awesome. | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: schmiggens | | I was inlove with Nathan when I was about 15, I thought he was so cute. I can't belive your folks live just there. That's cool, do they know him?
I thought Tommy Emanuel was well know, even overseas?
Also I heard a story about the guitarist from Pantera, apparently before he joined the Band he used to travel around the USA entering guitar/ talent competitions and he won them and won them and so he was banned from entering any talent quests throughout America. He is good. | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: gaboman | | Mmm... yeah, Diamond Darrell I think that guys name was... the drummer's brother too. Slash from the old Guns and Roses line-up is good. Some times lame though, he goes lower down on the list...
I don't know how well known Tommy Emanuel is overseas, really. But I gave my friend one of his CDs a while ago, didn't know who the hell the guy was, but he had to admit he was a good guitarist. | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: schmiggens | | Carlos Sanatan is a given. Godd one Heavens.
Anyone who has seen Desperado, does anyone know if Antonio Banderas actually plays that guitar? If so, then he's pretty good, it is hard to play that plucking style. | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: schmiggens | | Ultimate guitar riff comes up smelling of Roses
By Iain Shedden, Music writer - May 04, 2004
IN the 1970s the glory days of guitar rock the nerdy aspiring guitarist's riff of choice was Deep Purple's Smoke on the Water.
Not any more. The new-century nerd has moved on. Moved on, that is, to the 1980s.
A poll in Europe's Total Guitar magazine this week installed US rockers Guns n' Roses' anthem Sweet Child O' Mine as the greatest guitar riff of all time, with Nirvana's Smells Like Teen Spirit close behind and a 70s favourite, Led Zeppelin's Whole Lotta Love, in third.
Of the top 20 riffs, only two were recorded in the past four years. All the others, including AC/DC's Back in Black, are at least 13 years old. The new blood comes from English band Muse (Plug in Baby) and American outfit Queens of the Stone Age (No One Knows), but otherwise Metallica, with two entries, is as cutting edge and current as it gets.
This could be seen as a snub to the new breed of guitar rockers, including our own Jet, The Vines and The Casanovas – all of whom are enjoying worldwide success.
It is surprising too that there's no room for The Rolling Stones or Oasis.
Total Guitar editor Scott Rowley told the BBC that "to a new generation of guitarists, Guns n' Roses are more thrilling than the Sex Pistols. This poll shows the so-called canon of classic rock – the Led Zeppelins, Eric Claptons, Jimi Hendrix – is as popular as ever but being added to all the time".
More than 2000 readers took part in the poll. | | Reply To this Message

I think you'd need to include Carlos Santana in this list, as well as Stevie Ray Vaughn -- both excellent guitarists. |
Yes, definately both great. I just got a live Stevie Ray Vaughn DVD and it's incredible!
