The Pope is visiting Washington, D.C. and President Bush takes him out for an afternoon on the Potomac sailing on the Presidential yacht. They're admiring the sights when, all of a sudden, the Pope's hat (zucchetto)blows off his head and out into the water.
Secret service guys start to launch a boat, but President Bush waves them off, saying, "Wait, wait. I'll take care of this. Don't worry." Bush then steps off the yacht onto the surface of the water and walks out to the Holy Father's little hat, bends over and picks it up, then walks back to the yacht and climbs aboard. He hands the hat to the Pope amid stunned silence.
The next morning the headlines in New York Times, Boston Globe, Milwaukee Sentinel-Journal, Minneapolis Tribune, Denver Post, Albuquerque Journal, Los Angeles Times and the San Francisco Chronicle proclaim: "Bush Can't Swim." | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: Curley Joe | | Speaking of the media, has anyone noticed how liberal-biased Lou Dobbs, host of the CNN news program, LOU DOBBS TONIGHT is? It's embarrassingly transparent. He gets all red-faced and flustered when he's talking to anyone with conservative viewpoints. I have stopped watching CNN to a large degree because of him. I now tune into mainly MSNBC and FOX. | | Reply To this Message

When I first got my Sat Dish, I had the top 100 and I had Fox news. What a refreshing change it was to hear the news without all the liberal spin.
I would watch Fox, then check the nightly news. Dan Rather and Peter Jennings would leave out all kinds of important info to make Bush look bad.
I knew the whole story because I was watching Fox, and was getting all the facts. Same with CNN, they leave out all kinds of info so they can put their Liberal spin on it.
Sadly, after a year, I went back down to the top 50 channels and lost Fox News. Back to the liberal spinned news from Cnn and the big 3.
Last night, that Bill Plant jerk was saying we were in a Vietnam Quagmire. I wanted to grap him out of the t.v. screen and slap him silly.
He should know better. He is old enough, that he saw Vietnam first hand. How he can compare a war like Vietnam to whats happening now, I got no idea.
***Whidden counts to ten*** Breathe David, Breathe!
OK, I am all better now. Anyhow, I wish I had Fox news again, so I could get the full story! | | Reply To this Message

The same way conservatives compare Chaberlain/Hitler to what's happening now.

O Rieley is the man. I love watching his show. |
If you haven't seen CNBC's "Dennis Miller" (M-F, 9-10 p.m. ET/PT), you don't know what you're missing. Great stuff!

| Posted by: Inner City Blues | | I think Fox News is crap for reporting false information, much like Jayson Blair did with the New York Times.
When the bombing of the Madrid subway occured, the Spanish authorities immediately blamed ETA, a very hasty accusation at that. However, of all the news organizations broadcasting the news, Fox News had people saying people in ETA trained in Iraq in terrorist camps run by al-Qaeda. If you took a trip to the Fox News website, it said a very different thing. It said ETA has absolutely no connection with al Qaeda.
I lose a lot of respect for news organizations that report news that's blatantly false. CNN did the same thing when they broadcast a video of Palestinians cheering the attack on the World Trade Center shortly after the towers fell; this video was not even from the same decade.
People always want to talk about spin, the real important thing is if there is inaccuracy, distortion, or just blatant lying. | | Reply To this Message

I'm gonna have to humbly disagree with that. At least with a big lie, we can point to it and expose it. Even a far right wing conservative like myself won't like it if Fox news has an outright lie.
The spin is what's worse. You don't know you got spinned. You don't know something got left out and you just got zinged. The reporter puts the innuedo in there and you might catch it as spin or you might not.

I changed on 9/11 too. I was never a liberal per se but I did vote for Gore (I know, I know). I'm righting my wrong and voting for Bush this time, however.

| Posted by: Curley Joe | | Perhaps Ron or one of the other mods would create an interesting poll as follows:
Which TV media source do you trust to deliver the most accurate, spin-free news?
CNN
BBC
FOX NEWS
MSNBC
CNBC
AL-JAZEERA
Any others to consider? Perhaps upon voting, one can list the above in order of preference. | | Reply To this Message

Being Gold, I can post a poll, but I can only put in 4 items. |
I've seen more than four choices in other polls. Perhaps a moderator needs to do it?

| Posted by: Whidden | | Yep, a mod can put in a whole bunch of items. I did a poll with 4 one time and KJ was able to add a couple of items to vote on later.
I could Private Mesage a mod if you want and see if they can get one rolling. | | Reply To this Message

Well given what I've seen, C-SPAN and BBC offer the best news coverage. Fox News is by the far worst. I like MSNBC for Chris Matthews because he does a great job of playing the devil's advocate in grilling both sides on an issue. What does CNBC have, only thing I know of is Dennis Miller, a guy that has never been funny to me. CNN lost a few notches as I've seen how the programming has changed on the station; basically all shows that hadtrue debate got shifted to unpopular time or were cancelled (like Talkback Live and Crossfire moved to the afternoon).
al-Jazeera has spin, but it also provides a perspective that you would never see in the American media and that's the effect if the war on civilians. The only problem with al-Jazeera is that it's far too biased, like Fox News, to be taken as a serious news netowrk. Fox News is on the bottom too, I've seen far too much blatant misrepresentation of facts, especially after the facts have been proven otherwise. When I see people on Fox News saying the smae wrong information repeatedly I often wonder if they've done their research or do they know it's wrong but just don't care.
Corroboration of stories is very important in knowing if there is spin, Fox News often has no corroboration.
