Has the UN offered to take over Gaza? |

Let them come in and run the place. Take responsibility. Use it as test case. If they can stabilize things and hold elections that form an administration that can take responsibility, then use the same model in West Bank.
In a couple of years pull out and leave a Palestinian State.
Blue helmets should be primarily from "independent" countries as well as muslim. | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: Charles | | So no one has any thoughts on this?
Didn't egypt utterly reject the idea of going in to help their palestinian brothers?
Anyone?
I suppose its easier to rant/rave/accuse etc.
No fun in looking at real alternatives... | | Reply To this Message

That's why it won't happen. | | Reply To this Message

Hello?
Isn't Sharon proposing unilateral pull out from Gaza?
Didn't Egypt reject participation?
@Merk
What if they used Muslim UN troops?
What if Isreal shut border until Palestinian leadership proved it could handle the responsibility?

| Posted by: antizionist2004 | | Yes, Sharon is PROPOSING it, that doesn't mean it will happen. And I think he is doing his best to stop it from happening, especially by going around and assasinating all the Palestinian leaders. He knows there will be a response, thus more chances for him to use his military on innocent Palestinians.
What have Egypt got to do with this? Their not Palestinian. Just because they're Arabs doesn't mean they have to do everything to help them. Why should they take on the burden of this people who have nothing to do with them except happen to live in the same region in the world? | | Reply To this Message

Wow! I'll bet he has dreams of murdering children, etc.

Oh - I thought they may want to help. But that's ok.
But what about the UN? If this idea occurred to an ass like me, it must have occurred to someone else?
Why doesn't the UN make a proactive proposal to go in and stabilize situation until a normal non-terrorist gov't can be elected that can take responsibility for the activities within its borders?

Yes Sharon is proposing a unilateral pull out, but who mentioned anything about UN troops? There's going to be a fight of control between the PA/Hamas.
Closing border's would work, unfortunatly, the border's can only stay closed for so long before the Palestinians start crying about it destryoing their oh-so-dependant economy.
And of course, when the Palestinians cry, the rest of the world cries with them.

I'm the one who mentioned UN. Of course it would never occur to the UN themselves. Just my dumb idea.

I think its reasonable to close the borders (if its physically feasible).
Isreal needs someone to negotiate with. If PA has control, they must accept responsibility for their territory. Close borders until they figure it out.
If the PAlestinians want access to work in Isreal, then they need to make it clear to Palestinian leadership and terrorist groups that they won't tolerate terrorism. LEt the PAlestinians work it out - and make the people accountable to some degree.

| Posted by: Merkava | | I agree, the only problem is getting the populace to say they wont tolerate terrorism.
Do you remember Bush's roadmap to peace? The only thing the Palestinians had to do was dismantle their terror groups, did they even try?
Nope.
All they could offer was a shitty 10 day Hudna (cease-fire) which they broke within the 5th day. | | Reply To this Message
