I have been meaning to post this thread for over a month now, but I kept getting sidetracked. What pop stars do you think would not have won AI? Remember this is not about dancing, it is about singing.

I don't think Brittney would have made it either.

I would have to say all 3 of them...lol.

Defintly Britney Spears and probably J-LO too. I don't know about Madonna...I think she would have made it to the final 10/12 at least.

i think any punk type bands wouldnt make it, cuz they cant really sing that well...the guys from blink 182 for example

(NOTE: I would say 'Avril Lavigne'. but don't personally reagard her as a pop artist, but if YOU do then, she wouldn't have made it.)

Ricky Martin (it's true, he can't sing)
Jennifer Lopez (had to take constant singing lessons before her voice could be released)

I disagree on Britney. She has a good, confident voice and is quite beautiful. She would have made it.

OBAF, can you tell me more about why Simon hates Iglesias? It's the first I've heard of it.

I kinda agree with Firenze about Britney making it. I didn't think she would, but then i thought about it, and i think she would probably make it past the audition at least. if she only sang one really good song then the judges would say "well she has the image" isnt her image THE pop image they compare everyone too? i dont know if her voice is good enough to carry her through the whole thing, but she'd make the auditions

I disagree about Gwen Stefani. I think she would have done well. She has a nice vocal range, confidence, and beauty.

After hearing Gwen sing at the superbowl a year or two ago, they really touch her voice up in the studio. I don't think she has a bad voice, but I don't think she would have won AI.

yah ..american idol..is really a true test of your voice..because there is no producers that will benifit if they make your voice sound better..you know what I mean..and no faking it..no back up singers..and no dancing to make up for your voice..just pure raw talent

What about Bob Dylan? Mick Jagger? Macy Gray? Bonnie Tyler? WILLIE NELSON?

Jeezus welcome to the AI forum. I have to agree with you that there is no way Paula would have made it.

Stars who would not make it:

* Any of the Spice Girls, Sugababes, Atomic Kitten, girl group type people. They tend to sing in groups because they don't sound good enough by themselves.
* I agree with whoever said Kelly Osborne (and anyone who has a Career from Reality TV.)
* Kylie Minogue - can't dance, can't really sing, but I love her anyway.
* Courtney Love - Do I need to explain?
* Janet Jackson - More whole package than good voice, she is good, but not excellent
* J Lo - She had some good songs on the first album, but tried to be too hardcore when she started dating P Didiy and lost "it"
* Ashanti & any other of the girl who sings "bit parts" in Ja Rule type music. Most of them sound OK, but again, nothing special. I went to school with so many girls who could sing like that.

Yeah, I'll agree with that Miss You Much and Black Cat, back in the day were great. But recent stuff, not to good.

Most boy bands, Backstreet Boys, O-Town, Human Nature, etc, would not make it as solo artists. I think Justin has been the only exception to that rule.

jeezus, you're right on with the janet jackson of old vs. the new janet. but i think scott stapp (the lead singer of creed) could make it, easy.

i don't think biz markee would have made it though.

Avril Lavigne can sing...i love her voice....Janet can sing too...maybe she doesnt do a thousand trills and runs..but they have great tone to their voices.... Brittany is the arm-pits....gwen has a nice voice...

I think Jessica Simpson has a great voice, she just doesn't use it as much as she should. She can hit the high notes like Mariah Carey can, but for some reason she doesn't. I don't know why.
