Which Unchained Melody Version is Better |
| Posted by: hica19 | | From an unbiased opinion, out of Michael Keown, Justin Guarini, EJay Day, or Clay Aiken, who do you think sang a better version of the part that goes "And Time, Goes By, So Slowly, And time and do so much. Are you, still miiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiine..I neeeeeeeeed, your love". Obviously we can't judge the whole song since Michael didn't sing the whole song the way that the other three did, so we have to judge based on the parts that Michael did sing to make things fair. | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: clayfan101 | | ok......who is Michael Keown?? was he the guy who auditioned and sang that song? if so.... he was very very good!! i remember being blown away by it... but I think Clay's version was very good... and i pick it as my best. well, the fact that I like clay may put a bias on it, but i like clay BECAUSE to me, he is one of the best singers i've ever heard, so that's why i pick his version. | | Reply To this Message

To me, both versions are good. I just like Michael's better because he took the biggest risk ever and made it work. First of all, it was his first audition, the first time America heard him sing....it was Simon's favorite song (and Simon hates it when people sing that song and kills it), he sang the song without background music, and he seemed to have slowed the song down. Singing that kind of song without music and slowing it down proved to be extremely hard to do. If not sung right that way, we would right off the bat be able to hear glitches, like a wavering voice, out of tune etc. Fortunately, that day, Michael didn't have any of those glitches. However, a Las Vegas radio station interviewed him the day after we saw his audition, and they had him sing U.M around 7 oclock in the morning. He started out great that time, but towards the end, I could tell his voice was wavering, and then his voice cracked. It was easily picked up then. I think with music playing, some of that could have been covered up. Still it was really good singing at 7 in the morning, especially with a song that hard to sing.
Clay also did a good job of it season two though. I guess i'm also being kind of bias in that Michael has been my absolute favorite contestant ever since he sang that song. I didn't really become a Clay fan until after Josh Gracin got voted off last year. And it was mostly my friend's doing that got me to kinda "Clayvert" last year.

| Posted by: hica19 | | Ok..how about this question? Which version is better: Clay's vs. Righteous Brothers. I know he wins by a landslide among the people who sang it on American Idol, but do you think he measures up to the classic original? | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: clayfan101 | | omg the original is alrite, but BORING. it was just so slow and extremely boring to me. Hate to say it, but i feel the same way with the original version of Bridge Over Troubled Water... I think Clay's version of both the songs is soooo much better vocally. It's just a lot more exciting. | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: jess_c | | omg, as if you can say clay's version of the bridge over troubled waters is better than the original. That's like sacrilegeous right there!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! There will never be a better version than the Simon and Garfunkel version!
I don't mean to clay bash or anything, but I think this about a lot of people doing covers of songs, but I have a tendacy to think that the orginals are normally the best because the person who wrote and performed the song wrote it from the heart, and the soul, whilst the person singing it as a cover is only really warbling words they learnt by heart. | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: clayfan101 | | i knew I'd get something for saying that
Simon and Garfunkel's version is just way to mellowed out and slow for me. They're great artists but I like Clay's voice better. | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: Delta | | Clay is so awesome that I even forgot about Simon and Garfunkle.
You need to download Clays version and then see or rather hear him.
Go to Kazaa and you can do it legally. Really, am I right?

Well Clay does sing that song really well, but I also like Elvis Presley's version. However for Unchained Melody, the Righteous Brothers forever own the song. Clay owns the American Idol version, and Michael owns the acapella version.
