There has never been mention of James Potter's family, really.
So, why is that? From a recent chat with JKR, she was asked about Harry's grandparents, and she informed us all that they were all dead.

Is there anything special about them?

What are your thoughts?

I think the only thing special about them, is that Mr. Potter was the heir of Gryffindor. I think he was a nice and very wealthy man.

Wasn't once a dicussion in here in which someone said that one of the Potters in the history invented the Golden Snitch, and with it made the family fortune? Or i've read it somwhere else...
It was just a fan-theory, nothing confirmed by JKR, but it's an interesting idea.

It's a theory... and I believe that it was something that Sherry has said.

Actually Maja had the idea.

If no one really wants to claim the idea as their own, I'll take the credit.
Though I'm not smart enough to think of something like that really

I have the feeling that there will be more to the Potters than we can understand right now I'll let time dictate my answer to this thread, and when I get to the point in the book where the truth is revealed, I'll come back here and reveal what I believe to be the true answer having just read it, of course...

That idea or theory was great Maja!Maybe that's why Harry had so much money in his vault.

No,I don't think that we'll find out more about any Potters except harry's parents cause there's not much of anything about the other Potters in all the books so far....................

Ok, I was going to start a new thread but might as well attach this stuff on to an old one, sinces its pretty much in the same topic. What do you guys hope to find out about harrys parents and family in the sixth book. And what suspicions of yours do you have already about the potter family?

Well, they were obviously very rich.

I want to know where the money came from and if they are descendents of Gryffindor.

I want to know why they were living in Godrics Hollow and if it has anything to do with Godric Gryffindor.

Very convenient isn't it? I want to know what James did for a living.

I think they are direct decendents of Godric Gryffindor. Just somewhere along the line a girl was born and married someone with the last name of Potter. Just my fan theory though! I think some of the others are alot better!

I'd find it kind of interesting , that if James was the decsendent of Godric.. a very great wizard, who maried lilly a muggle born.. that it was lilly who really saved harry. It wasn't james, who no doubt played a big role in trying to save harry and warding off voldmort, but who was also the desendent of a great wizard. But that it was Lilly, who came from petunias family. I wonder if the fact that she was a muggle provided any extra protection for harry. Dumbledore said that harry had something in him that voldmort just couldnt stand. What if its not only love, which i completely agree is a huge part of it, but some of lillys muggle blood in him. Voldmort hates muggle, then again he himself is part muggle, so i dont know if the hate towards that would be strong enough to oust him from harrys body in the 5th book. Plus in the fourth book he took some of harrys blood so this may cancel out any blood ties that were protecting him. Then again he still went to live with the dursleys... if the blood ties werent protecting him still then why did dumbledore make him go there first?
