Okay... so as the Sorcerer's Stone started off, we see that Harry is very poor. Not that his Aunt and Uncle are poor... but, they give him nothing, but leftover, hand-me-down scraps.

When Hagrid takes him to Gringotts, we get a look into his vault, that belonged to his parents. Where in the world did that money come from? There are rumors abound... but what do you think?

Did the Potter's invent something?
Was the Potter family rich?
Were James and Lily aurors?

I believe the Potter family was rich. Lily had a wand that was good for charm work, so I believe that she was a charm breaker for Gringotts like Bill. James probably was an auror. I think James got his money the old fashioned way-he inherited it.

Yes, it's quite possible that the Potter family was already quite rich. It will be interesting to see how JKR explains all that money. I for one really want to know.

I think it's made money. Lily and James seemed both prominent (since everybody seemed horrified to hear of their demise...), so it's quite possible that they'd made a mint doing what they do.

That's one of the reasons I started loving Harry Potter poor, mistreated kid finding out he's loaded... man-o-man that'd be sweeeeeeeeeet

If they were aurors, would that make them rich? It's kind of equivalent to being in the CIA. Government jobs don't tend to be very high paying. And if Lily was a charm breaker for Gringotts that doesn't necessarily mean she'll be rich. Bill Weasley is a charm breaker and he isn't rich.

Well we know that James didn't do much, according to Petinuia. Yet the wizarding community was sad when Lily and James died. I think they may have been aurors. Although who knows. We don't really know what wizarding jobs pay in the wizarding community. Maybe the worked for the Ministry. But yet the Weaslys are poor, so maybe they were higher up in the Ministry chain??? Who knows for sure other then J.K. Rowling???

Correct... Petunia wouldn't say anything nice. Besides, she didn't communicate with Lily, and probably knew nothing of what her sister, or James, did for a living.

True! I didn't think of that. Who knows though? I am thinking alot more (be afraid when I think) about the Harry Potter series. Why would they go into hiding and not go to Hogwarts??? And remember he-who-must-not-be-named was after Harry, (and it seemed like his dad) NOT HIS MOM!!!!! Why I wonder could it be because she is a muggleborn? or did he like her alot... But my best NEW bet would be they were aurors

Could they be thieves? Who knows, maybe the Potter's are darker than everyone thinks... would be a great twist.

Or, maybe there's a Witch Super Lotto we don't know about.

i know this sounds crazy, but where did James get his invisibility cloak? Do you think his family invented the invincibility cloak?

Not possible. It's a great idea! But I think invisibility cloaks have been around for a while.

what i mean is that one of harry's ancestors invented it and the fortune was passed down

Maybe James just bought the cloak...or his Dad bought it...
