Israel has launched a manhunt for the attackers
Palestinian resistance group Al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades claimed responsibility for the Friday night attack, that took the death toll in the unrest since the Palestinian uprising began in September 2000 to 3,855.
The Israeli youth, who was shot in the head, was pronounced dead on arrival at the Haddasah Ein Kerem hospital in west Jerusalem.
Israeli state radio said he had been out jogging near his home.
Israeli hunt
Israeli police, backed by a helicopter, launched an immediate manhunt for the attackers, who escaped in a getaway car.
"This attack is part of persistent efforts on the part of all Palestinian organisations and Yasir Arafat's Fatah to intensify terrorist activities against Israel," Israeli government spokesman Avi Pazner said.
"Israel will take steps to defend itself in the most effective way it can. We know that other terrorist acts are being planned," Pazner said.
The latest death took to 897 the number of Israelis killed during the current Palestinian uprising. Palestinian deaths during the same period stood at 3,855.
In a separate incident, a Palestinian man attempted to stab an Israeli border guard near the city's Damascus Gate.
Israeli radio said the guard opened fire, slightly wounding the man. | |
