Rhea County votes to Ban gays from county! |
| Posted by: Benyamin | | DAYTON, Tenn. (AP) - Rhea County commissioners unanimously voted to ask state lawmakers to introduce legislation amending Tennessee's criminal code so the county can charge homosexuals with crimes against nature.
"We need to keep them out of here," said Commissioner J.C. Fugate, who introduced the motion.
County Attorney Gary Fritts also was asked by Fugate to find the best way to enact a local law banning homosexuals from living in Rhea County. Commissioners asked Fritts to bring a resolution requesting the ban to next month's commission meeting for another vote.

Could you imagine the precident that such a ban could set?!
One county bans gays, then another bans interracial marriages, the next county over bans unwed mothers, and the county past that puts a ban on people of a particular faith. And before you know it, we are all segragated into our own little "safe places" where people who are different from us, are not allowed because people who are different, somehow threaten the people that we are. | Posted by: Benyamin | | (Dayton-AP) -- Rhea County lawmakers are reconsidering a proposal to ban homosexuals from living in the county.
A special meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. Thursday to rescind a motion made by Commissioner J.C. Fugate on Tuesday that passed unanimously. The motion asked the area's state lawmakers to introduce legislation to amend Tennessee's criminal code. The proposed change in the law would give Rhea County the power to charge homosexuals with crimes against nature.
Wednesday, County Commission Chairman Terry Broyles said commissioners wanted a "clarification" of the motion. Broyles said he understood the motion to be about gay marriage -- not banning gays from the county.
Rhea County is about 30 miles north of Chattanooga. It holds an annual festival commemorating the 1925 trial that convicted John Scopes on charges of teaching evolution. The conviction was overturned by the Tennessee Supreme Court. The trial later became the subject of the play and movie, "Inherit the Wind."

Nope just some sick minds in the backwoods county of
Rhea, Tennessee. As you can see by my next post they
realized that perhaps they went to far.
But don't be surprised if some other counties or towns try
the same thing. And if you think that it isn't going on right
now (by harassment) in small conservative towns you would be wrong. | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: chelktty | | I heard about this on the radio. People are so ignorant.
Anomaly you hit it dead on! You know what? I'm going to suggest to my county representatives that we ban the following people from living here:
People who play their car stereos so loud that it shakes my bedroom window, (Really, it's cool if you want to make yourself deaf, but I don't want to be a part of it!) people who are leaches of the system and their fellow citizens by sitting on their asses and NOT working, all teenagers between the ages of 15 and 19 that cannot refrain from being hooligans, door-to-door religious salesman, redneck cops, rednecks in general, people addicted to any kind of dangerous drug, bigots, people convicted of violent or sexual assault and stupid people in general.
I think it's ridiculous that this was even suggested and voted on. A ban on homosexuality? Ok, what's next? A ban on certain religious followers and the mentally challenged? Surely we can't let THOSE people into our society.
Why does it not surprise me that this is in Tennessee? | | Reply To this Message

I would never think that. Please! I get harassed just because I'm married and I don't want kids. People are ignorant. But, as I alluded to in my first post on this thread, I don't know how a law like that could be passed without a domino effect such as the one I hypothosized. I don't know how anyone could not see that...but...then-again...look at the people we're dealing with.

| Posted by: outsider | | Okay, that's it, I have decided to ban anyone who uses the letter "A". I am starting a petition right this minute. The website will be up in 48 hours, I will contact the media world wide, and by the end of next week the entire world will know that Americans will not tolerate those sick, twisted individuals who use the letter "A". I don't think we should have to tolerate that type of unnatural behavior. This type of thing should not be allowed in our pure and moral society.
Our sacred American ideals are based on the holy words that were written on the back of a box of corn flakes way too many years ago. We cannot let this behavior continue. Please join me in removing this pariah from our culture.
I am going to start right now by submilling my post the way it should rightfully look.

| Posted by: outsider | | You know JH, I have been pondering that point since I was in my late teens. Why not just give them some of the southern states. They already live in the bible belt, we could move the rest of them there. Move all the rest of our citizens out of he few states we give up and then cut them off from the US. I think their crime rate would rise because they cannot get along with others. They could rule their litle empire and the rest of the US could enjoy the true freedom of their choice of religions for each individual. | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: Jokers_Harley | | ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh yes Outsider I have pondered the same whenever I hear their latest idioticy............. I DO think that their crime rate would be the highest, especially if we were to move the KKK with them. It would serve them right................ but no, it would be wrong for me to enjoy that, for then I would be no better than them.
And hey............... I thought America was created when they were trying to escape religious persecution???? or am I wrong??
so much for learning from history?? Or is it that history really does repeat itself??? If that is the case then the world better watch out for there might be a Hitler once again................ hHis is something I learned in school and I try to remember it whenever I don't feel like getting involved in something:
First they came for the Communists,
and I did not speak out because I was not a Communist.
Then they came for the Socialists,
and I did not speak out because I was not a Socialist.
Then they came for the Trade-unionists,
and I did not speak out because I was not a trade-unionist.
Then they came for the Jews,
and I did not speak out because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me
and there was no one left to speak out for me. | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: outsider | | I love that poem. I hear it in my head often, especially when I see people discriminate against others.
Yes I just ponder the thought, often lately. But then again I know logically I have the right to ignore the stupid. Knowing the fact that the stupid always do something to hurt themselves. Why expend my energy becoming part of an extreamist group to harm the nuts and bolts when they are so good at doing it to themselves. | | Reply To this Message
