From a Blog that I just read...

Understanding the argument…
There is some argument over where the cradle of civilization is, with some calling it Mesopotamia and others claiming that it’s Africa. Either way, it wasn’t in America. For some reason, North America was left uninhabited until the Native Americans drifted to it. When this took place depends on what you believe from your history classes. Europeans, or Anglo-Saxons, didn’t make their first trip to ‘The West’ until 1492, with the voyage of Columbus.
From a religious point of view, (for those of us who believe in God), this all happened for a reason. North America sat nearly uninhabited for what? A couple thousand years? All of these resources, and no one really interested in taking advantage of them. In a manner of speaking, America could easily be considered a “Promise Land”, just waiting to be explored… or perhaps ‘given’…
When America began receiving its influx of immigrants, they came from all over… The term melting pot has been used for a long time to describe our Nations beginnings. We really couldn’t have asked for a better way to begin inhabiting a land this rich, than to bring in influences from many different nations. With the Revolution in 1775, we broke free from the British, and began our new form of government. This may sound like a statement of the incredibly obvious, but the reason why I bring it up, is because I want to challenge you all to come up with an alternative. If you were going to begin colonizing an entire continent filled with an abundance of natural resources, what kind of government would you be in favor of? I’m serious here folks… I want someone to outline a better form of government than the one that our Founding Fathers went with. Communism? Dictatorship? Monarchy? What form of government would you have suggested?
There is a ‘right’ way to do nearly everything in life. I like to think that there are ‘Universal Truths’ in life that we should all try to follow, though I know that many people will never agree. A government by the people, of the people, and for the people was the ‘right’ way to go.
Having said all that, let me just go ahead and admit that we have not always done things right. Our position on slavery up until the 1860s was clearly wrong. Our lack of civil rights up until 1964 was clearly wrong. The way we treated the American Indians was clearly wrong. The interesting thing to note here is that as a nation, we have since come to realize the ‘wrong’ in all of these things, and we’ve made amends to each in one way or another, some more thoroughly than others.
With our form of government, the size of our nation, our culture, our supply of natural resources, and our society, we were destined to become a Super Power on a global scale. With all of this power, we have of course inherited an abundance of responsibility. We’ve also made our share of enemies, by no fault of our own. Whether you’re talking about nation vs. nation, or neighbour vs. neighbour, there is a tendency for one to be jealous of the other when they don’t have the same opportunities, and naturally they’re going to become enemies if they can’t see eye to eye on the how’s and why’s in the world. What if the Taliban was running America? What if the Muslims took over America? How would things be different? Would a nation of this size, with this much potential ever allow itself to be governed any other way?
We are a Super Power. We have a ton of responsibility to the world, and to ourselves. If we were to sit idly by, and do nothing, the terrorist attacks would continue. Nothing that we do or say will ever make the nations and terrorists that hate America suddenly stop hating us. They’re raised to believe that we are infidels, and that we are the sworn enemy. We have no choice but to defend ourselves by whatever means necessary, and in this case, that means taking the fight to them. What would the “Peace Activists” have us do, honestly? Are we to sit by and let the enemy attack us on their terms? Should we just worry about our nation and no one else? When a ruthless dictator is committing blatant human rights violations, would you have us stand by and do nothing?
I’ve been a soldier in the Army, and I’m now in the Air Force. I like to think that I know the mind of each. I believe in my heart that as a fighting force, we are willing to put our lives on the line, and yes, we are willing to die if it means keeping America safe. We were founded, built, and preserved as a nation by people who were willing to die for the greater good of the nation they live in.
So go ahead and run Bush’s name into the ground, call him a war mongerer… some of you are the same people that were seeking comfort on Sept 12th, only to change your position now… The war on terrorism is just that, a war…there’s no doctrine to follow to fight it, and no easy way to win it. But we CANNOT sit by idly and do nothing.

"We’ve also made our share of enemies, by no fault of our own."
America was founded on good principles but governments can and do do bad things. America has had good governments and bad governments and terrible governments.
But you do not seem to want to know anything about Bush or his history or even question that he could do anything but good. Living in times like these you should question everything a government does, and thankfully living in a democracy you can.
You can call yourself good Americans but there's a huge difference between questioning a President and being unpatriotic. They are not the same thing. Blind loyalty to any administration is dangerous. Power is a very corrupting influence and no one has more power than Bush.
I hear the reasons for Bush going into Iraq. Some good some bad. But you guys are listening to only one side more and more - the governments side.
Yep, all that's good except for one thing. We're not in Iraq to "fight terrorism". The sooner you all receive that transmission, the better you will be at dealing with the inevitable fallout of manufacturing a war on pretense.
Operation Iraqi Freedom ABSOLUTELY involves the WAR ON TERROR. Iraq is a keystone in the larger, ongoing war on terror and it is in the best interest of American security to remove a threat and gain an overeaching geographic, political and military position in the Middle-East — the heart of terrorist organizations and their support systems. Bush recognizes this basic reality while Kerry and liberal democrats who are after his job would like you to dismiss it.

Well at least we know you know the real reason why we invaded Iraq. It's not that we did this to fight terror, you just agree on more US conquests in the Middle East.
And you wonder why they're bombing our buildings and citys?
Sounds to me like oneofpeace ought to buy himself a one-way ticket to look for Osama's lair and make himself at home where his passionate convictions lie.
Of one thing I am very confident: In November, Americans will not cower and fold like the Spaniards. There is much too much at stake, we have come much too far. We owe it to our children, to ourselves, to our 9/11 victims and their families and to our heroes who have invested themselves and have paid the ultimate sacrifice. Indeed, we owe it to humanity.

Most of the terrorist just happen to be Muslims. Where did you ever get the idea that I thought all Muslims were terrorist. Islam is a peaceful religion. I'm not understanding why you are directing this to me?
And what are you say is "my people?" You obviously haven't read much of this forum have you?

You should vote for Skerry and get our taxes raised and appease the terrorists and screw up our country like Clinton did so well.

Bush cannot hold Clinton's jock strap when comparing the two administration's accomplishments. If you want a side by side comparision, I'll provide one.
Now I know you're republican and all, but is the truth so skewed you can't see it before your own eyes? You think America is better now than it was 3 yrs ago?
I don't know what your version of better is, but with versions like your's, we surely don't need your definition of worse.
It's lucky that we have oneofpeace in our midst to point to the "skewed truth before our very eyes." I feel very blessed—don't know where our country would be today if not for truth-sayers like him to light the way for all us wayward Americans.
So what did I skew Curley? The facts speak for themselves, not your or my opinion for that matter.
It's just a click away. You can compare the two yourself, but I know you'll never do it. Or at the very least you'll never admit it on this site.
The only one's that benefited since Bush was in office are the richest 1% of us. The rest of us can go to hell. If you're poor, you deserve it. If you're rich, same thing. Bush summed up in a nutshell to a nut case.
Democrats excel at adding more govt programs [thereby capturing more votes], raising taxes and appeasement. Clinton got money from China by selling them our classified info. I can't remember what any democratic administration has done to further our country's progress. They specialize in Welfare Programs for the poor and taxing the wealthy to pay for them. They all get huge retirement benefits, so they don't care about the rest of us. Will no one toss out our 2000 ton tax code and install a national value tax?
So what are you guys saying? Compare the facts and then you're little frivilous points will dicipitate like an alker seltzer tablet in a glass of water.
And I don't recall any terrorist attacks happening in the US during Clinton's reign except for the WTC. At least they both didn't come down.
Ron Ackerman said this in post #21 : Aww you must not have gotten a tax rebate last year. You know I never got one when Clinton was in office. But I got one last year.
Me too!

Ron Ackerman said this in post #21 :Hey how many terrorist attacks happen to Americans during Clintons watch? How many on Bush's watch?.....hmmmm....
1993 World Trade Center bombing
1993 Failed New York City landmark bomb plot
1996 Khobar Towers bombing
1997 A terrorist opened fire on tourists at an observation deck atop the Empire State Building in New York City, killing a Danish national and wounding visitors from the United States
1998 U.S. embassy bombings
2000 USS Cole bombing
1993 WTC was unsuccessful, unlike 9/11
1993 NYC landmark bomb plot "Failed" as you have pointed out
1997 was a minor event and pointing that out shows partisan politics on your behalf.
The other 3 didn't happen on US soil.
How you can compare 8 yrs to barely 3 is beyond me. What happened on Bush's watch never happened in the history of this country. In fact, history as you pointed out should have provided some hindsight for this knuckle-head.
oneofpeace said this in post #25 : Yep, and his lies speak even louder. You will see when America vote his butt out of office.
And this time, Jeb won't be able to help him steal it.
Actions speak louder than rhetoric. But rhetoric speaks volumes.

The rich are too rich anyways..its good to have programs that support poor people..better than only benifitting the rich more!!! Supporting the poorer population does not only help them. It lowers crime rates which benifits all Americans.
Raising taxes..well thats sometimes neccesary..its how you pay for things to make our country better..its still helluva lot lower than europe
kickace999 said this in post #30 : Ron, its cos in the thing you posted, the first one, u made a comment about muslims taking over america
I am sure you are talking about this:

What if the Muslims took over America? How would things be different? Would a nation of this size, with this much potential ever allow itself to be governed any other way?
You have to realize that those are not my comments. I mearly copied them from another website. But lets take a look at what it is says, it is asking a question, a what if, type of question. I don't see where you believe that this is a racial comment? So please explain yourself. You can't get away with that kind of comment calling me a "f***ing racist" without explaining why you said it.
if you post it then it implies that its your views
i apologize for calling u a ****ing racist
but asking a question like what if the muslims took over America and then saying that a country with America's potential would never allow itself to be governed in that way sounds racist to me because it implies that muslims would bring down the potential of the country..maybe i read it the wrong way but thats how i interpret it

The question in no way is racist, it is a leigitmate one. Just as What would happen if American took over Iraq? It doesn't make the person asking the question a racist. In fact I find it hard to believe from your comments on this that you really understand racisism. For one, Muslim is not a race but a religion which consist of many races including American which isn't a race either.
yeah just asking a question is not harmful. But saying that a country as good as america would never let muslims takeover is offensive.
your right it should be prejudice instead of racist
