Why did people vote for her last night? She is not a good singer. I can't believe that someone who's voice resembles Macy Gray got into the Top 12. I can't believe Simon actually likes this girl. I deffenitly wont be voting for her in the Top 12.

I voted for her because I liked her........but Macy Gray made it to stardom because some people DO like her.

So its a matter of opinion I guess....

I did not vote for her. I hate the voice, hate Macy Grays too. It is a bit too nasal, and she does not enunciate well. The bouncing she does when she sings drives me crazy. She looks like she has to pee.

I tried to vote for her. She has got talent. I just think that she needs some work.
Like Sherry said.. she's very 'bouncy' in her voice... and needs some work.
She does sound a lot like Macy Gray.

Do I think that she is the next American Idol... NO! There is much better in this competition.
Do I think that the show is 'rigged' somehow? Yes. I don't know how... but they do something.

Mystic... your husband is going to kill you if you called THAT many times!
And that text messaging bill? You're dead... just start packing now honey.

I find people who have such "hate" toward someone, that they don't even know, fascinate me.
Why would you want to start a "I Hate Fantasia" club? If you don't like her singing... fine.
But to go out of your way... to spread hate toward another person... well, that's cruel, and a bit disturbing.
There is enough hate and animosity in this world, without people hating someone because you didn't like the way they sing.
I don't like rap music (most of it) but I'm not spreading hate about it... I just don't get the point.

Well I didn't vote for Fantasia either.

I liked her enthusiasm at first, but something about her attitude and the way she presents has changed and I cannot quite put my finger on it.

I found her performance style too practiced and she doesn't enunciate and swallows words along with notes.

The judges have already set her up for us as a 10 ... so where does she go from here ?

Maybe she DID have to ?

Seriously ... Ryan keeps saying she is doing a "bo-bo" ? ... Is that something I'm supposed to know, like a new dance or something or is it just this year's version of 205 ?

I liked her... but I did NOT like her bouncing on stage, while preforming. I think that causes her voice to 'bounce' and makes it unpleasant. I think that she could be a great singer... but, she is NOT my pick to be the winner of this competition.

I think that she will go far, because that's what the judges want.

Reply To this Message

Posted by: loc

America just proved that they can be bought an sold. Because the judges sold fantasia to america. She is by far one of the worst singers in the finals. She has great stage presence and does a very good performance. But her singing is painful.
If the voters would take their time, make conscience decisions based on their own judgements and not be totally influenced by the panel of judges, this could turn out to be a much better contest.

Reply To this Message

Posted by: Lawless

But the thing is, while you don't like her, others do. I liked her... I find things that I see can be improved, but she is not the worst singer. So, there's a difference of opinion between two people right there. Yes, people might listen to what the judges say.. but, when you look at the other American Idol boards, there are tons of people that like her. Just as you might like someone else, and many other people don't like that person. It's just opinions...

No matter how talented she may be, I believe that Fantasia will have trouble with the "Image Problem" that we've been discussing on other threads lately.

Others have pointed out that Ruben's "image" was not that great when he won last year, yet his debut CD did well and his career seems to be off to a good start. Time will tell.

Here's a link to the story about Fantasia and Diana that ran on Access Hollywood Thursday afternoon:

Thanks. Short piece but very telling.

Ruben's image problems were largely that he was morbidly obese and quite inarticulate.
However, Ruben is affable, has a warm presence, and a smile that's lit from within. Also, Ruben has a humble demeanor, almost seemed shy and he kept pretty quiet and spoke softly when he did speak and mentioned his mama a lot He was dubbed the "Velvet Teddy Bear".

Fantasia is bold and too talkative in my opinion and she seems far from humble.
When asked on Seacrest what happened after the results show ... did she say she had to get away from the losers because they were spoiling her celebration ? ( Diana had a slicker answer :lol
And in an interview Fantasia says things like "I ain't gonna' change it" and in her Q & A, that she attributes her talent to "the man, God" ? Around these parts "the man" is law enforcement
From what I have seen so far, Fantasia does not have the makings for the whole package. Mind you, it's not her physical appearance but her general presence plus her voice needs work. You can only go so far on yeah, yeah, yeah ... that's already been done.

I think Fantasia is too stuck up to win AI3. People who watch the show (especially in Europe) want someone 'nice'. I think that's what the Americans want too. there are far more interesting people. The ride for her ends here.

this is a discussion forum. not everyone here is going to be fans of all the contestants. if she makes it she's going to have a lot more criticism than what she's getting in here. American Idol isn't about all of us being able to sing or not sing. which is why we're in here talking about OTHER people and their singing ability (or lack thereof).

Wasn't she the one that sounded like Macey Gray? I just remember laughing when she disclaimed sounding like her and that she's her own unique individual and then immediately afterward sang a song that sounded EXACTLY like Macey. No matter how hard she tries she's ALWAYS going to sound like that. She should just roll with it - it's not a bad thing

Hi PRussell welcome to INReview.

Too bad you didn't put your comment in the Fantasia thread. Did you read that thread. Nobody here is hating on her.

If we can't discuss them why even bother having 12 finalists and voting ? Just let Simon pick one and run with it right ?

The key word is "discussion" and that's all we're doing ... in the fanny thread.

Peace/Out

I've been watching this season from the very beginning and I have totally enjoyed Fantasia's performances and her personality. She was the only one who stood out to me as someone who could do this professionally. However, I've become a little concerned the last few weeks by a bit of bad attitude coming through. I'm sure the pressure is enormous, but it looks like the early positive reaction to her is going to her head already. She's been making some bratty expressions, and her reaction to Simon's comments this past Tuesday were very childish. I think this attitude is going to cost her votes, and I hope that she realizes what an opportunity this is and to start behaving in a more mature and professional manner. It's way to early in her career to be acting like a diva.

Reply To this Message

Posted by: Larke2000

you're absolutely right. i'm not a fan of fantasia, but i was surprised to see her have that kind of attitude this early in the game. the competition is still up for grabs by any of the remaining 10. i think that's also why we saw some people not even make it to the final 12. a few good comments from the judges and they thought they had it in the bag and didn't have to work for it anymore. and it's only going to get tougher as the weeks roll on. a professional attitude is a must if any of them plan on having a career and not just a soon-to-be-forgotten first and only album.

I remember Simon saying to Clay Aiken that he was one of the few that could accept criticism like an adult. Love or hate Clay Aiken, he always conducted himself in a mature way and the fact that he's probably the most popular of the people who have made a name from American Idol is probably something that Fantasia should look at. She doesn't have to be something she isn't. I liked her being a little quirky, and her funny little dance moves. But, I have to be truthful that the recent attitude has been a turn-off, and makes me wonder if her initial "sweetness" was more of an act. I hope not. Well, we'll just give her a chance to get her bearings, and maybe she learn some of the lessons she needs to.

Reply To this Message

I hate the attitude. There is no call for it. She should be professional enough to take it. I am not a big fan of her voice. I don't really like the sound of it, but it is her attitude that bugs me. I want someone who can act like Clay did and listen.

Deb, welcome to the forum.

Thanks for the welcome, Fuscia.

I thought Fantasia stood out because she had something different than the other contestants, and seemed more of a natural. Just like any performer, there will be people who like her singing style, or not. But it's good to know I wasn't the only one picking up on the nasty attitude. Well, off I go for a busy day at work. Have a wonderful weekend.

Isn't it funny how you all hate her sooooo much. But she is never in the bottom 2 or even 3. And when she sang with her group she had the biggest percentage of votes. Out of all 8 people in her group she had almost a third of the millions of votes(28.3% or something like that.) And isn't it funny how she is still IN the competition. Obviously you all don't know talent. I'm soooooo glad she doesn't sound like everyone else on there. I would be super-bored. Fantasia sings with soul (you are probably unfamiliar with the term), and she can do amazing things with her voice. Let's just be honest, you probably are mostly white people on here who don't like her. I'm not looking into your windows, I'm just smart, that is why you don't like how she sounds, you are used to dry, unemotional singing. LOL. Well, I will bet any amount of money that Fantasia will be in the top 3 and it will come down to Fantasia, George(another great singer), and probably Jasmine Trias ( who happens to sing soulfully, and picks songs mostly from black artists to sing every week.) I'm telling you this is the sound of today. No more cookie-cutter singers. I myself AM a singer, I did background vocals on a Janet Jackson song which will be on her new album, and my husband is a producer with Badboy entertainment, so I KNOW what I'm talking about. And that is the truth, that is why I'm not on here just talking out of my head, I'm telling you the facts. America loves Fantasia, and get a life, she was just joking and playing with Simon last week. Even HE knew that, he is cool with it, so you guys relax. LOL. Peace.

'Idol' contestant redefines show with struggles

By Tonya Jameson

Knight Ridder

HIGH POINT - When Fantasia Barrino was little, she would stand in front of her grandmother's brick house singing and banging a tambourine. Neighbor Mike Caruso would watch the skinny kid sing to passing cars.

"She was doing what little girls do, but she was good at it," he said.

Now, Caruso watches Barrino, 19, sing to millions on the Fox TV show "American Idol." She is one of 10 contestants who will perform Motown classics tonight.

Her background and sassy personality have sparked a national fight between Idol fans who love her or hate her.

Barrino isn't the typical contestant. She is a single mother, a high-school dropout and a strong believer that she is on a mission from God.

On message boards, many fans grudgingly acknowledge her talent but call her "ghetto" or "street." They say she's cocky and arrogant. Supporters say her critics are racist and don't appreciate cultural differences.

Criticism of Barrino's ego started last February, when she told the judges during her audition, "My lips are big, but my talent is bigger."

The comment was born out of a childhood of being teased about her lips.

Haters were further incensed last week when Barrino told judge Simon Cowell (the mean one) that he didn't recognize class, in response to his comment that she looked like her mother dressed her.

If Barrino wins or lasts into the late rounds, she could redefine the image of what an American idol is. She doesn't exude girl-next-door sweetness like Kelly Clarkson, teddy bear cuddliness like Ruben Studdard or Southern charm like runner-up Clay Aiken. She radiates the determination of a young woman who faces life's challenges and refuses to quit.

"It's been hard," said her mother, Diane.

"What they see coming out is the fight."

Barrino's confidence is rooted in spirituality and love. Her grandmother Addie Collins is pastor of Mercy Outreach Church of Deliverance in nearby Archdale. Nearly everyone on both sides of her family sings either gospel or pop music.

Her grandmother says ever since Barrino was 5, she believed God had chosen her to take his yet-to-be-revealed message to the masses.

Barrino has a spirit, a fire that touches people, Collins said.

It was singing that helped Barrino overcome low self-esteem in school.

Kids called her a rail. Her bottom was too small. Her lips too big.

On stage, it was her and God.

When she got pregnant in the 11th grade and dropped out of high school, her confidence plummeted again. It's not easy to sing gospel when you're pregnant and unmarried.

Her family responded by smothering her with love.

"In the midst of her falling down, we still love her," Collins said.

"I hope every teenage mother knows ... because you've made a mistake it doesn't mean that your dream is erased."

Anyone who doesnt think that Fantasia Cant sing is a looser...Yeah you heard me! All these crappy comments Im reading right now is rediculous. Obviously a lot of you dont know what real raw talent is. Your comments are simply laughable and you should be pimp slapped for making them. Now...anyone who thinks that she is talented have some type of sense! She is the bomb! I know that everyone have there own taste in music, but you cant base whether someone can sing or not on the type of music that you like! And for the "she sounds like Macy Gray" thing, she does not sound nothing like her! Macy Gray sounds like a dying rat, but Fantasia absolutely does not! She is very unique. Also for the "she doesnt pronounce her words" comment, the way she pronounce her words when singing is attributed to her accent and her uniqueness. I bet a lot of you loosers listen to singers that dont pronounce their words at all for example Janet Jackson. Come on people....get it together!!

I know nothing about what makes an American idol. I know what I like in music though and it usually is considered very old fashioned. At the beginning of this years Idol I was an Amy Adams fan. As the show progressed I noticed that when Fantasia sang I would either get goosebumps or teary eyed, well that is enough for me to know that I love Fantasia.
Also I love her reactions to the others (she is such a emotional and loving person that I cannot help but fall in love with her)
When she sang Summertime (which I have always liked) I got both goosebumps (there is no better feeling in the world than getting goosebumps and I don't even know why) and teary eyed when she cried because she felt the song so much, I knew then she should be the winner. Latoya is a very good singer but I would have to agree with Simon that we just didn't get to know her.
Of the final four we really only got a grasp of Fantasia's personality (because she is so "out there" and open with her emotions)

I agree Ben, I think she's by far the best performer. She plays to the audience, she completely absorbs herself into the song and she lays it all out there for the world to see.

She is the worst thing that ever happened in American Idol. I mean, the only reason why she was there was because she was already the favorite of the three judges to begin with. They look past beyond her donald duck voice! And we have to admit, being idolized by people sure has a lot to do with not just talent, but appearance and charisma as well. She just doesn't have that. Instead, she exudes a growing arrogance after her performances! On top of this, she can't even dance... what the hell does she think she's doing with that two-step thing?! Dude, I wish she trips or something! I can't bare watching her performances and hearing the biased comments of the three judges who have already lost their credibility to me in this season of Idol.

I'm 100% sure that the reason why the judges choose Fantasia is because they didn't want the people seeing the show as discriminating against Blacks... I agree that they aren't disriminating against Blacks but they sure are discriminating against another minority (Asians). We all have been oppressed at one point in the American History... but lingering on this oppression wouldn't make a difference in history! Would it?

Lastly, Simon wasn't really being tactical last night by saying "I'm going to be tactical here because you need a sympathy vote.. 'Fantasia, that's the worst song I've ever heard." He only added insult to injury. and I'm sure it infuriated people voting for Jasmine! Simon only added to the arrogant air that seems to linger on Fantasia.

My bet was really LATOYA LONDON! She has the voice, the looks, and personality. AN IDOL INDEED! But now.. that she got voted off.. I'm going for Diane! But still, I seriously believe that Fantasia should be ousted tonight. Don't get me wrong here... I have a lot of Idols who are Black whether they be in the music industry, sports industry, or entertainment industry. But Fantasia Barrino IS SIMPLY NOT ONE OF THEM!

PEACE!

You can't be serious! LOL Fantasia is the only Idol left. Latoya London and Jennifer Hudson who were voted out were the only true contenders for Fantasia, but even THEY didn't have "IT", and I mean the kind of "IT" that Fantasia has. The other two contestants (Diana and Jasmine) cannot compare to Fantasia for her unique voice that only sometimes sounds like Macy Gray, her vocal ability, and style. The other two girls are great singers, but they don't even come close to Fantasia Barrino. Paula Abdul hit the nail on the head when she refered to Fantasia as a triple threat. Abdul said she would not be surprised to see Fantasia in the movies. I agree! Barrino not only has the look and the talent to become a movie star, she also has the heart and determination. I hate the whole concept of American Idol, but WOW...Fantasia Barrino is as about as good as it gets. If this was the 1960's, she would have Motown's greatest find. Diana Ross in her heyday pales in comparrison to Fantasia Barrino. And it's sooooooo true what Paula Abdul said about Fantasia no longer needing American Idol, the contest. Her talent is THAT much greater than the show itself, that the valued judging of Randy, Paula and Simon, and the vote of the American public itself just-doesn't-matter-any-more!

High five Fantasia!

The vote of the public still does matter because in the end.. it's still going to be the public's decision. Paula was just being to nice... triple threat huh?! I guess we won't really know until someone does sign her for a movie. And if her talent was that much greater... she didn't have to join American Idol like many others who got signed on the spot because they're THAT GREAT!

That was big of you. That is just so nasty to say about anybody. I do not think that Jazmine or Diana are America's next idol but I do not diss them unless it is about their voices (ex. Jazz is too flat and Diana seems to try too hard with her voice)

I think Fantasia is absolutly amazing! I think she has a wonderful voice and a great personality. I think Diana has a pretty good voice too, but not close to Fantasia. And her personality is kind of annoying. Did you watch the interviews monday? Ryan looked like he was just trying to say anything to make her shut up. Fantasia has a great personality and I love her originality! Do we really need another singer who sounds just like everyone else? No! Fantasia really feels the music!

Hi! New here! I just had to say I really like Fantasia and have been gunning for her to win from the beginning. IMO, she is definitely the most talented singer in the competition, and I expect her to win now that it's down to the final 3.

Jas should go tonight! If not, something IS wrong in this competition! Diana puts me sleep most of the time. So.......Go Fantasia!

This is a Fantasia FAN thread and I hope you don't mind my interloping as Diana is my favorite and not Fantasia.

That being said however, both Fantasia and Diana have natural singing ability.

Fantasia however is memorable for things other than her voice -- things that have been hyped on this show; such as her early attitude that some euphemise as "sassy" but I perceived as arrogant and her "couldn't be bothered" about the others comments in early interviews ... but now she's all emotional and waterworks. Someone coached her to change her "image" fast -- and I see the tears and 'emotions' as put-ons.
She has just coasted on the judges wetting themselves over her. I also question her vote-getting via other contestants tactics ... and all the baby stuff, but truly ... she is to me more memorable for those negative aspects than just her voice.

I can't remember anything really negative about Diana, except she was rather stiff at the beginning. What I do remember is a polite girl, who has taken a lot of heat, but also every bit of advice, has grown and worked like a trooper to get to the Final 2. She FOUGHT to get there and earned her spot. And this young girl has excellent vocal range and stamina, a half-dozen "money" notes and a wonderful, powerful memorable voice.

Think about it. They both have talent but I'm just saying ... when I think of Diana I think "big, wonderful voice" -- when I think of Fantasia I think "lot's of gimmicks".

What's up with that ?

Hi cali ... welcome to InReview where we are very friendly and we always feel free to judge the contestants ... but not each other

As to making "american idol what it is this season" ... I have an opinion of what it is -- tepid compared to past seasons.

there is no look to be a American Idol...thats what evrybody said about Clay..not look at him...he made it too the top, along with ruben.
and the ones who really should have been in the finals is jennifer, amy, latoya, and fantasia, and george hoff. and now that its down to the end i thnk fantasia should win...i think diana could sing real good, but she's still in school...and like e/b else from the previous AI's they had a chance to make a record, and she probably would too...depending on the results...

paula trying to be nice has nothing to do with it...cuz if she know's somebody shouldnt be in the bottom she would give her opinion....though she cant do anything about it...and when latoya left, she said she honesly wasnt expecting it...nobody did, cause jasmine should have left a long time ago.

fantasia is fantastic and all you people who are hating on her should not be in this fan thread. Get it the key word is FAN! The people who you should be hating on is Jasmine Trias for making it as far as she did. Now that was horrible.

"Hate" is a pretty strong word. Those of us who don't care for Fantasia, including I, don't hate her.

Sounds like YOU have a little hate in you, though!

[Hmm. Interesting. I'm not going to comment on your feelings towards Fantasia's talent or lack thereof. However, I do want to speak on Diana. Diana is NOT a bad singer, I don't see her making it in the industry but she's cute. She has also improved, but she has only improved because people better than her were elimited EARLY, so she only LOOKED improved because nearly everyone else better than her was eliminated thanks to our wonderfully diverse home of America. So Personally, I don't think she fought to get anywhere. It was kind of....given to her.

"If I know NC though, this place will be packed." and it was.....when they showed us that at the Dome for Diana...it was around 5:50ish...

North Carolina that is kewl how you all come together for Clay and Fantasia and look this year, you guys got your winner....

The reason people like Fantasia, is because the girl has PERSONALITY. There is nothing oridnary about her at all, her voice is no where near as raspy as Macy Gray, that girl can sing and shes got personality and she shows itwhen shes on the stage. Diana DeGarmo is nothing but ordinary .. yeah she sings good but she dont have the personality that Fantasia does and you can tell she had some rough times in her life. She deserves to win.

I aint posting any messages on here saying that any of those Idols SUCK. Every single person that had the guts to go and audition and all of them had HUGE balls to get up on that stage in front of American and those judges and try their best, and at the end we found out Fantasia is the WOMAN and shes got it all, and maybe its sad for those other contestants but you know thats just the way that lil cookie is going to crumble this time. Fantasia's last song brought tears to my eyes, and thats def some real talent!!!
