C H I C A G O ! ! ! ! ! ! ! !
AND....I was truly overjoyed when she got another chance to perform in the wildcard and america got a chance to hear one of the better "singers" in this years idol. I'm hoping fans will get past the size of a person or the clothes they wear, or the way they look on television and notice them for their true talent.
Jennifer personnally has come a looonnnngggg way. Locally they have shown early footage of some of her local performances in high school and other places, she has lost a tremendous amount of weight recently, in an effort to make herself much more marketable.
Personally, I think the outrageous looking outfits are intentional, (and it is working). Because america will remember her as "that girl with the wild pink dress, or the silver body suits, or the white go-go boots.
I don't know how far she will go, im hoping it is all the way but I will guarentee you that america is in for a treat every week that her reign is extended. She is a tremendous talent who has finally gotten her opportunity to display it on biggest stage she could have ever imagined.
Now even that would bring a tear to your eye, huh? | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: loc | | ...well, I am just totally blown away by tonights results, and by the expression on jennifers face so was she. This was almost a catastrophy. And don't get me wrong just because she is from chicago if she is bad and from chicago, I would say she is bad. But tuesday night she gave one of the best performances on the show
And to show how confident the las vegas rating had fantasia, latoya, diana and jennifer in that order with the highest odds of winning the idol.
Either idol was trying to create some extreme drama (and they did), or something is wrong with america's voting.
It was completely evident when they announced her as one of the bottom three...the audience let out a loud gasp as if they could not believe it.
Randy was just too overwhelmed. And I don't think paula or simon thought this would happen either.
I saw some pretty bad performances tuesday night and she was not one of them. And to see some of those people comfortably sitting on the couch while she and leah sweated the final moments of this drama.
Seems as if america likes her personnality, enjoy making fun of her attire
what happened with the voting??? | | Reply To this Message

I agree with everything you said!
Jennifer did not deserve to be at the bottom two...there were worse then her...I was absolutely surprised when she was called as one of the three lowest.....something was really wrong with that picture.

I think you have hit it on the head with your analogy of what is happening with Jennifer and her fanbase.
I don't think any of the contestants likes to see someone get eliminated but at the same time Latoya and Fantasia would have probably breathe a sigh of relief had america sent Jenn packing last night.
I also think america takes the critiques given by Simon to heart and some voting is influenced by his comments. I'm not sure how you oversing a song either? And actually after listening to her sing again on wednesday, the second performance seemed to have more spunk than the tuesday performance. And the two of them had to be singing under stressful conditions(and leah never could get her tune together it was quite noticeable).
Despite all of the publcity that idol has garnered around Jennifer, Chicago is just one lazy town that gets a thrill out of complaining. People here will complain about the way things are and why certain people are in political offices, and why their taxes are so high etc... but when you ask them did you do anything about it? No, I thought enough other people thought or felt the same and would do it. Then they spend the next 3 to 4 years complaining. So even though her fan base here is large, chicagoans are too lazy or too busy to pick up the phone and vote. They want somebody else to do it for them. I've been here all my life and thats just the way people are here, they like to talk about it.
Unfortunately some of these contestants have their whole towns supporting them and apparently these people are actually voting.
It will be nice to see contestants like Jenn and Amy stick around a few more weeks to keep idol from waltzing in certain contestants.
These girls actually have great voices and can give idol contestants a run for their money. | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: loc | | This is a quote taken from Rosanne Simunovic (a vocal coach), who critiqued
for idol on foxes:
"Jennifer - this was a superb performance and another highlight in this evening's showcase. You have a remarkable vocal skill and control that is "jaw-dropping." You sound like a young Aretha Franklin - just unbelievable. You have a tremendous vocal range that is beautifully even from to bottom. You perform with ease and grace - a real star quality happening here, I feel.
I honestly cannot find a great deal wrong with this performance- it was truly flawless.............
She also went on to critique the other performers (you can read the other critique on the foxes on idol web site) she does this every week
Its amazing that everyone seems to think that she has such a tremendous voice yet she has struggle thru the original qualifying and wildcard and is now struggling to get thru the finals.
Can't figure this one out idol fans. | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: mystic | | Not to get off the Jennifer subject...but it kind of goes with what you are all talking about...
Did anyone notice when Simon and Paula were talking about the rewatch on TV....and Simon said about LaToya and JPL...how disappointed he was when he heard them on the TV rewatch? I think he said that after he talked about Jennifer oversinging.
Did you all notice that?? | | Reply To this Message

Yes ... mystic I did hear that !
Was he talking about Jon PL ? or John Stevens ?
When I heard him say LaToya it was a real shocker after they gushed all over her.
But it was clear to me that on Tuesday, Simon's "oversinging" remark, although it was said after Jenn's performance, he was including several others and LaToya is one of them.
Maybe he was trying to clarify, and also make it clear that performances in studio look/sound different than on TV as an explanation of why votes were low for Jennifer.
I hope people picked up on that as in my opinion, Jennifer has a MUCH better voice than either LaToya or Fantasia. They have more "fluff" and Jenn has more "stuff".
Jenn, Jasmine and Diana have the best girl voices, though I want to hear Diana do a ballad and J & J do something really up ^^^.

| Posted by: loc | | I believe Simon's comments were definitely meant for more than just Jennifer. Even when he said it on tuesday. It just happened to come after her performance and I think some of the fans took it as a direct hit to her style of singing.
...and Paula's comments are so empty that no one really pays too much attention to her critique. She is too busy trying to be favorable to everyone that her comments really have no substance. This is also the second time that she has muffed Jennifer in favor of popularity. If you remember earlier in the tryouts... she commented that she had a tremendous voice, but needs to tone it down. Then when Jennifer sang "Imagine" in the 1st group of 8, (which I thought was a great rendition), Her first comments was "Where is that Big Voice." Then on tuesday after Jennifer's performance, she and randy both contended that this was the best performance so far tonight. However, when they ask her was she surprise to see Jennifer in the bottom 2, she made this "fluky" and I do mean "fluky" comment .... "Well, not really... but I have said to the contestants that you have to be careful with your song choice"
She sang and Aretha tune and sang it well... what on earth was she talking about?
I hope that she doesn't take heed to those comments like before and change her style. She has probably the best voice in the competition to pull off the "heavy hitters" like Aretha, Whitney, or Patti.
I'm sure with the overwhelming praise that Latoya has been getting it came as a total surprise that Simon would direct that comment towards her.
But I really think he was trying to clean it up a little after he realized how devestating it was to Jennifers success on the show... | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: jayb47 | | I think jennifer's got a great personality about her which is why i was soo pleased for her to get through to the final 12.
She also has a great voice - one of the best in the competition without a doubt and she gives consistently good performances... but what surprises me is how she made it into the bottom 3 last week!
It looks like there are quite a few contestants in the show who have a loyal fan base at present and unfortunately Jennifer is lacking that. I think if she continues to work on her image, which it seems shes doing, then i reckon she may just grab some of Fantasia's fan base (if fantasia continues to come accross as being arrogant and childish at times) and could do really well ....
either way i'm sure she'll really look forward to next week - the theme should suit her so lets just hope she picks a belter of a song. | | Reply To this Message

I too find Jen's faces very distracting when she sings. She seems like a very nice person, and I am so glad that she is dressing better. | | Reply To this Message
