American Idol finalist Diana DeGarmo has been forced to cancel her planned Friday visit to the Georgia Legislature.
The Snellville resident, who has reached the final 12 on the popular TV talent show, has learned that she is not allowed to appear or perform in any venue even a governmental one during the competition.
DeGarmo was invited by a group of Gwinnett-based lawmakers to appear, and possibly perform, before the Georgia Legislature.
Fox, the network behind American Idol, nixed that plan on Wednesday through an e-mail Rep. John Heard, R-Lawrenceville, received, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported.
The 16-year-old Shiloh High School student _ the youngest female contestant on the show _ was to receive a resolution Friday morning acknowledging her success. | | Reply To this Message

I like her personality and how humble she speaks when on camera. This is just my opinion, but I am honestly gonna applaud her on the show. Good luck to all contestants though, this year there is so much great talent, that I think it is going to be hard to weed them out! Polly [/FONT] | | Reply To this Message

Snellville, singing heroine shines
'Idol' footage of city thrills locals
By DON FERNANDEZ
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Published on: 03/17/04
It took nearly the whole evening to hear Diana DeGarmo's dose of soul on "American Idol" on Tuesday.
The results: kudos . . . with one caveat.
Judge Randy Jackson: "That was incredible."
Judge Paula Abdul: "Diana, you are such a bright light. You were brilliant."
Judge Simon Cowell: "Diana, you are like a big doll."
But?
"I didn't feel touched. . . . I guess it comes down to personal preference."
Hey, 2 1/2 out of three works. Not that her soaring rendition of Aretha Franklin's "Think" drew a single scowl back home.
Snellville resident DeGarmo, 16, is one of 12 finalists vying for the "American Idol" crown and near-inevitable superstar status. She is the youngest female contestant on the show this season.
Whether America agrees with the judges remains to be seen. Call-in voting for the viewers' favorites began immediately following the program. The results will be revealed tonight.
One contender will be axed each week all the way until the finals in late May, when the two remaining vocalists will duke it out for the title.
Shiloh High School — where DeGarmo is a junior — pulled out all the stops for Tuesday's performance. The gym was decked out with balloons in DeGarmo's favorite colors — pink and black — and pizza and soft drinks were served.
A projection television with a thunderous sound system displayed the program.
The crowd was slightly sparse, with about 75 people in attendance. But those watching had been anticipating the moment for a month.
"As far as we're concerned, it's all been waiting for this to happen," said Shiloh choral director Aimee Chaffin.
The audience erupted as the school and other sights around Snellville were featured in the documentary that introduced DeGarmo's performance.
Students, Chaffin said, have been weighing DeGarmo's chances by checking online oddsmakers and discussing the contest in Internet chat rooms.
Shiloh principal William Kruskamp was dialing his cellphone to vote before the show's credits rolled.
I'll probably get 50 votes in at least," he said.
"I did last time."

| Posted by: hica19 | | Did anyone notice that the song that Diana sang last night was the same song that Fantasia sang in the Hollywood round in which contestants were asked to step up, say why they think they are the American Idol, and then perform a song of their choice? I personally though, prefer Diana's version. | | Reply To this Message

One can tell she enjoys entertaining people. She opened my eyes during the Gloria Estefan week; she's got talent, this girl! Personality-wise, she doesn't come across as a professional star yet, but hey, she's a 16 year-old, having a ball of a time! I think she's got a lot of potential. I hope she wins this competition. All the best Diana, keep on fighting!! | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: hot4johnstevens | | Diana is awesome. Today at the wal*Mart in Snellville they had a meet & greet with her. My brother and his friend, Steve got to met her...I was there too but I was taken the pictures...she is a really nice girl....because they were like a line of people taking pictures and she was like..."Do you want me to smile?"...she was awesome....she even sung alittle....and it was great...her school was holding a pep rally for her today because I think she is leaving today or tomorrow to go back to HOLLYWOOD and fight it out with Jasmine and Fantasia..
oh and a side note....they said that Jasmine was the highest vote getter last week, not Diana...come on people vote. Don't let Diana fall out this week all because all of Hawaii is voting for Jasmine.....(they said that today on the news) | | Reply To this Message

That's how Jasmine out beat Diana, even though Diana gave it her all and blew everyone away. She was awesome....I thought Randy was right....she had the best song of the night...so if you like Diana...vote for her...she should move on to the top 2...and not Jasmine...don't let her get out beat by Jasmine....

Hi Crazie ! This is the Diana Fan thread. The mods have requested we try to keep it kind of positive.
Anyway ... Diana was absolutely terrific on the F3 special where she reprised "Turn the Beat Around". Even better than the first time (on Gloria Estefan night) and she didn't wear that dang red dress with the strips !

| Posted by: Delta | | You know Sherry, i d on'd understand that a show like this one can't have the power to take all of our calls. It really means that there are votes out there not being counted, I called Mystic last night and same with her but she was in storm trouble. We in New Orleans have been washed out for two weeks. Any way back to my point, if they are not getting all of the votes then Hawaii has an advantage( unfairly) over U.S.

My heart went out to her last night because she looked so sad when the judges criticized her. Her energy looked zapped and Ryan seemed to cheer her up. Then she came on strong with that last song. No crying for her.

I was fortunate enough to be able to get through about 45 times. Mrs. AZIdolfan did 10, for a total of about 55 votes. That's less than half of what we did last week, but we must have gotten at least 200 busy signals.
I think next week may be even tougher, but we'll give it our best shot. Diana deserves no less.

I sure like that girl and hope that she wins. I cant honestly explain why I have such an aversion to Fantasia but that also makes me want to see her (Diana) win even more. I guess Fantasias voice is annoying to me and I dont like that she seems to want to get everyone feeling sorry for her cause she is a mommy......but regardless~sigh~ I seemed to like Diana for awhile now. The fact it winds down to a contest between someone that I thought was great and someone that I found irritating doesnt help much . The post that you responded to with this was much more tame than what has shown up on the Fantasia fan thread. Let's try and be open-minded about this thing!!!!
I'm sorry, oldbutafan, but you lose credibility by posting this when you, yourself, have gone to the Fantasia fan thread and made negative comments.
If you want Diana's thread to stay positive about her, which it has for the most part, then you need to afford Fantasia the same courtesy on her thread.

niwrad428 when the "Fan" threads were created, truly, the mods asked us to try to stay positive in those "fan" threads, and keep "debate" to other threads.
As the competition progressed, some of the previous threads for specific contestants were merged and thus some OLD negative posts ended up included in the Fantasia "Fan" thread, and I did not realize it. Thanks for letting me know.
My latest post in the Fantasia thread was not intended to be a criticism of her, but asking Fantasia fans a real question, and trying to elicit some POSITIVE comments and answers from Fannie fans ... but nobody answered.
Maybe you can help.
Fantasia and Diana are both good singers but Diana is the one that I am most positively impressed with.

| Posted by: fuscia | | ATLANTA, Georgia (AP) -- As "American Idol" fans prepare for one more night of speed-dialing for their favorites, Diana DeGarmo says she already feels like a winner.
"It's crazy to think that of 70,000 people, little me from Snellville, the youngest girl in the competition, has made it this far," DeGarmo said Sunday in a telephone interview. "I'm just so excited to be on such a great show that has helped me in my career, no matter what."
DeGarmo, 16, and Fantasia Barrino, 19, each will sing three songs on the popular Fox TV show Tuesday night. Fans will have four hours, instead of the normal two hours, after the show to cast votes by telephone and the American Idol winner will be announced Wednesday night.
Georgia Gov. Sonny Perdue has invited DeGarmo's family, friends and neighbors from Snellville to the governor's mansion to watch Tuesday's show and vote, Perdue spokesman Dan McLagan said Sunday. He added that about 300 people are expected to accept the invitation.
Perdue has been impressed with DeGarmo's "comments in the media about family and small-town values," McLagan said.
Last year both "American Idol" finalists -- Clay Aiken and winner Ruben Studdard -- released successful albums.
DeGarmo already has plans to start work on a record immediately, no matter how she fares in this week's voting. "My plans are definitely just to keep the ball rolling -- don't stop while people know who I am," she said.
DeGarmo completed her junior year at Shiloh High by doing course work between practices and performances in California. With an "Idol" concert tour beginning in July and running through September, she won't be returning to a normal schedule anytime soon.
Barrino, from High Point, North Carolina, and DeGarmo share Southern roots as well as a friendship from early in the competition.
DeGarmo says when she and Barrino were told they had made the top 12, "We made a pact we were going to stick together to the end, no matter what, and you know what? It worked."
DeGarmo said Barrino "has a beautiful voice, a very unique voice that really makes her Fantasia."
Barrino returned the compliment, saying Sunday that DeGarmo has a "more powerful" voice than pop stars Britney Spears or Christina Aguilera.
"If I heard her sing a song on the radio I'd say, 'There's Diana.' There's nobody like her," Barrino said.
DeGarmo has enjoyed strong local support throughout the competition, but Tuesday night the biggest show in town is the Shiloh High School graduation. Her fans are making plans to use "designated callers" instead of bringing cell phones to the graduation, according to the Gwinnett Daily Post. | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: FairykissCandy | | Diana has my votes to. She sang Celine Deon like nobody can. I mean her and Celine sound just a like only in ways.. Diana is way better than Celine. I think that Diana should have won the competition. I mean "Runner Up" is good but Diana was better than everyone. I mean she was so EXCELLENT! I mean Fantasia was so good to... but Diana was way better. I mean Diana had it all. She is gonna be the best singer this side of Texas. I mean she is really! I think she will so hit very high on the music charts! I am gonna buy everyone of her CD'S! She's got every little peice of support a person can ever give her from me! Well... I guess I should go but let me say one more thing.. if anyone ever disses Diana... I don't know what i'll do. She is such a sweet girl and she is the best dang singer for a 16 year old. I LOVE YOU DIANA!!!!! | | Reply To this Message

She was on our news here in GA, and she said that she is hoping to come home to GA, and making her CD here...we just can't till she comes home and we can all show her how much love we have for here...here in her hometown | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: FairykissCandy | | Oh My gosh! Diana lost... that is soooo wrong! I mean Diana should have one! She was such a good girl! She could hit those high notes like nobody could! I mean better than Celine Deon could! She is my idol I know that, she didn't even have to be on American Idol to do that! I would idolize her so much she couldn't breathe! Yea Randy Jackson signed her. He said on one of the shows when she made I think the top 3 "Diana, baby... if you don't make it in this competition... yo girl you got a contract with me, come sign it!" So yea he signed her! I am so happy! I am so buying every one of her cd's! Cya guys!

| Posted by: Lawless | | I liked Diana... don't get me wrong. She was my choice of the remaining two.
But let me say this... she can NOT sing better than Celine Dion.
IF she could, that girl would have never been on American Idol... she would be a star without it. | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: FairykissCandy | | I think Diana has lots of talent and nobody will ever be able to take that away from her. She is the best singer yet. She can hit those high notes and there is no reason to be rude to her. She has everything I want I know that, she can sing she is pretty and she has a great personality. I think America made the wrong choice about Fantasia she isn't what American Idol was all about Diana was. She was perfect for the spot America wanted filled but all good goes to Fantasia... she was good but America got it all wrong... Diana was the one who rocked my world. I cheered her on even in my own home while watching the show and everytime she got in the bottom I prayed and prayed for her to go on. She can sing Celine Deon like nobody can. I think she deserves more than what she did get!!! I will buy every one of her records!!!!!
Love for Diana,

(but I still think Kelly Clarkson is better) | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: FairykissCandy | | well Kelly is good. But Diana has it all, and is so much better in the music world then Kelly is! | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: hot4johnstevens | | Diana was one of the best. She was awesome this year, and I just guess it wasn't in her plan or stars to be the winner but she's doing just fine. GA is just waiting to get our Idol home, so we can show her how much we love her. I'll buy all Diana's cds because she rocks, and can sing better then any 16 year-old, I know. GO DIANA... | | Reply To this Message
|
| Posted by: hot4johnstevens | | sorry I disagree...I like Diana and think she rocks for a 16 year-old but I just think Kelly has a voice that not many can top. Well no one on the show has atleast.....Kelly is just my favorite (female singer) | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: Lawless | | We all know why Randy signed her... because he KNOWS that he's going to make money off of her, and he knows that at the age of 16, with a voice like she has, he will have to get more and more training, and then.... look out! | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: Lawless | | I think that Diana has some GREAT potential. I really like her voice. They just need to work on her lower register. She has a great upper register, and I love her long notes. She does well. She is going to be a powerhouse one of these days. | | Reply To this Message
|
| Posted by: FairykissCandy | | Well you might disagree but I think Diana has a wonderful voice and she so should have won. Hey if your online why don't you just get in the chatroom lobby so we can talk more about this. But if your not well... I think Kelly is good but I mean Diana is like way way way better! | | Reply To this Message
|
| Posted by: hot4johnstevens | | yea, Diana does has a great upper voice but she does need to work on her lower voice. I mean, you can't sing a love song on all high notes and that is the only thing I see wrong with her. She rocks. | | Reply To this Message
|
| Posted by: hot4johnstevens | | I just think that Kelly is a powerhouse like no other but...to be real...I think if we give Diana a few years...to work on her voice...I think she could be a powerhouse as well as Kelly, if not better....I mean Diana is only 16 and still has time to grow with her voice..and Kelly is in her 20s and her voice has gotten stronger but...I don't know...just waiting to see what happens with Diana.... | | Reply To this Message
|
| Posted by: dianadishott_04 | | i think diana should have won..i know she wouldve won if it was up to me....but im glad randy sighned her...ill be buying every cd she makes...way 2 go diana......holla | | Reply To this Message
|
| Posted by: hot4johnstevens | | me too...if you left it up to me...Diana would have won over Fantasia...and I am happy that Randy saw something in Diana and even if he only signed her because he knew he could make money off her....atleast she'll be making a CD for us all to hear | | Reply To this Message
|
| Posted by: FairykissCandy | | Well, your right. Her voice will grow and think how good she is now, and how much better it will be in the future. She has more than a chance in the music world... she has everything better than just a chance. Diana rules! I wanna be just like her when I become a singer! | | Reply To this Message
|
| Posted by: hot4johnstevens | | Diana is really good and I hope she stays as nice as she is because then she will have everything to make it big in the music world. Diana does need to work on her lower notes more because she has wonderful upper ones...then she will be one of the best powerhouses around...and THANKS TO RANDY FOR SIGNING HER AND LETTING HER SHINE.... | | Reply To this Message
|
| Posted by: FairykissCandy | | I don't think she needs to work on anything. She is fine just the way she is, but practice makes perfect I guess. She does know how to hit those high notes like nobody can! I mean she can really become the best singer ever! Yea she does need to stay nice and sweet! She will always be sweet though you can so tell! My friends would die if she wasn't. I think she has what it takes to be a great music artist! She has a great voice. Yea, thanks Randy for signing her! She couldn't have been where she is now w/o you dude!!! LUV YA DIE! | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: Nattylisa | | Diana and Fantasia were on Larry King and she said she knew she hadn't won by the song selection they were told to sing. I guess the I BELIEVE song gave it away.
Diana didn't mention being signed by Randy. Just about the tour. I wonder if she actually signed or it's in the process. I hope she does so she can get an album out NOW while her name is hot.
Good luck to both singers. | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: hot4johnstevens | | I don't think Diana needs to work on anything but her lower notes. That's the only thing I see holding her back right now...because you can't sing a love song on all high notes. I can't wait for her to come back to GA...snellville is throwing her kinda like a party-thing. I can't wait for that. Then the tour and then she said she is going to make her CD here in GA because she can't stay away from GA much more...another thing I like about her is how proud she is to be from where she is from. I mean every week she said something about snellville or Georgia...and I am happy because she makes us all proud to be from here.... | | Reply To this Message
|
| Posted by: hot4johnstevens | | Randy said it on Ryan that he is going to sign Diana...she just may not be signed yet. I hope both girls well...but I guessed that Diana knew...and why would they do that to her...I guess it's to soften the blow when it happens....the same thing happen to Clay last year...he saw the card over Ryan's shoulder and knew how to react...well I hope Diana the best and can't wait for her CD | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: FairykissCandy | | Yea, I didn't know you were from GA. Thats cool to know. Tell Diana how much I love her if you see her anywhere! Yea I think she can sing so much better than Ruben and all those other Idols... I mean, she is proud of everything she has and thats the way I like her. She is so pretty and sweet on camera. She never seems like the girl who would curse or be rude to anyone even if they were rude to her. I mean she seems like she would always be a nice girl in every way possible. Well... I love you Diana! Stay nice and sweet! I will cheer for you all the way!!! LUV YA GIRLY! | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: hot4johnstevens | | I'm going to the party thing in Snellville for her. I hope to met her again. When she went to the wal*mart meet & Greet, my brother and his friend, Steve got to met her and I was the picture taker...she is as sweet and nice off camera as she is on. I hope she stays that way. I mean cause she has kinda been a star here in GA for sometime and we were all just waiting for her to make it to the world stage.....and now that she has...GA is behind her 110% and we just love her.... | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: hot4johnstevens | | Diana is a star and she is going to shine....everyone better watch out because she shined next to her "Idol" Kelly Clarkson....(that is what she said in one of her early interviews that Kelly was one of her idols....) | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: FairykissCandy | | Yea I think your right 100%! I am behind her to. I will always love Diana from this day forward. Tell her I said I love her (FROM MOLLY OF BLUE RIDGE) It would be greatly apreciated!!!

| Posted by: hot4johnstevens | | I will have fun at her thing...the problem is...snellville keeps getting told different times that Diana is coming home....so they don't know when to plan the thing and let everyone know about it...because it's goin to be an all day thing...
Her single comes out June 29th...the week after Fantasia's.... | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: FairykissCandy | | Oh, thats cool. But I think you should just expect her home soon enough shouldn't you? Yea I am so buying her single when it is released. I hope you do have fun at her party and be sure and tell her everyone in Texas is rooting for her and we all love her so much!!! Let her know that we all voted for her... and that we know she won't let us down. | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: hot4johnstevens | | We all want Diana to come home soon. She was going to be home 2 weeks after the show...but she can only come home for like a weekend thing....so we are just waiting for the Major to tell us when she will be here....we plan on telling her about all her fans...in Ga, Texas and all over the USA. She already has a pretty good idea of how much love she has..... | | Reply To this Message

Eww, you liked John Stevens he was such an ugly carrot top and he like could only sing old songs and I don't think he had what it took to be the American Idol especially with the look he had!!!! | | | Reply To this Message |
