I mean the food which first appeared in the USA.
As the culteral melting pot of the world, I don't think any particular food is 100% American. But my guess would have to be Hot Dogs & Hamburgers. Maybe that's why they're so popular on July 4th!

Chicken wings...or "Buffalo wings"
Twinkies. American "cheese." OooH! Peanut-butter! Now there's one to be proud of
It has to be either fried chicker or BBQ ribs.
I know this is a long dead thread, but I'd like to point out that cajun food is American. Jumbo comes from America
What's a Jumbo?
The only thing I can think of is peanut butter and "jelly" sandwiches. Everything else has been done before (no idea what a Jumbo is. Only thing I can think of is "jumbo dog"... but maybe not)
Jumbo is short for Jumbalaya (i think)
Or perhaps she meant Gumbo? What about Peach Cobbler? Or Baked Alaska? I freakin' LOVE peach cobbler...
Yeah, I think I did mean Gumbo. I've never tried Cajun food because I'm not a fan of hot food, but I do know that it was invented in America
