Well, the Lord of the Rings triligy is over now and soon people will forget all about it. Your grandkids will think it's just an old movie when the future comes. Probably no one will even come to this forum anymore. How would you keep LotR alive?

It's not going to die. I'm sure after Tolkien finished his last book everybody was saying it is dead. Now years later after his death the books have been turned into movie masterpieces loved my many. It is not simply just going to die. The guy is a genius; he even invented a whole language just for the story. There is just too much for it to just “die.”

The autor is not even alive and the book is a best seller.

Chodder, good post. Tolkien's books are timeless. He created an entire universe for these wonderful characters to exist in. The forum may wane, but we all have to do our part to keep it going.

I remember it being popular in school years before the movies even came out. The books were on reading lists for us to pick from and I remember some teachers had their classes read them. I just always think of the amount of time Tolkien used to make all of this. I mean he created a language for crying out loud! that was just a little piece of the platter you could say. He still had to work on the books. But back then there was no television. It was just reading, so the books were the equivalent to movies now a day. It was pretty much the only entertainment they had. So there was a good reason behind the amount of time he spent on all this.

Tolkien and C.S. Lewis were also great friends. They met on a regular basis with other literary friends for readings of their current works. Can you imagine being the guy that had to follow Tolkien?

I think that's really cool that Tolkien and C.S. Lewis were really good friends, only fitting since they created two of the best fantasy series of books ever. I really enjoyed Lewis' Narnia books growing up and can't wait till The Lion the witch and the wordrobe comes to theaters. I wish I would've read the Lord of the Rings books when I was a kid. I've read them since, but I think it is something different when you're growing up and reading those books. Atleast I did read C.S Lewis book, although not as great as Tokien, they are right up there.

The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe and Lord of the Rings are the only fantasy books that I've ever enjoyed. I can't wait to see LWW on the big screen

To create an entire language for your books is pretty amazing. Just imagine how handy that would be - teach it to a couple of friends, you've got yourself an easy way of insulting other people, or impressing chicks... Pardon me, I'll be right back with a language I call Pie-ish
