What happens when a Palestinian speaks up? |

GAZA CITY : A Palestinian journalist who was also working for the office of Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat was shot dead in Gaza City by masked gunmen early on Tuesday, Palestinian medical sources and the journalists' union told AFP.
Khalil al-Ziban, 59, was ambushed by several masked men after leaving his office in central Gaza and shot several times, medical sources said.
Ziban ran a bi-monthly human rights magazine and also acted as an advisor to the veteran Palestinian leader, the Palestinian journalists' union said.
He was reportedly very close to Arafat and a senior member of the ageing leader's Fatah movement, the union said.
It was not immediately clear the exact nature of his advisory role to the PA.
The attack was the latest in a growing number of incidents targeting journalists in the Palestinian territories in what press activists say is a bid to intimidate local media.
Three weeks ago, an executive with a newspaper linked to the Palestinian Authority had his car torched in Gaza City, the victim told AFP.
Munir Abu Rizeq, a journalist and managing editor of the Al-Hayat Al-Jadida daily, said his car was set ablaze parked in front of his house in the southern Tal al-Hawa neighbourhood.
In early February, the offices of the Palestinian weekly Ad-Dar were vandalised during the Muslim holiday of Eid al-Adha.
And on January 8, a Gaza correspondent for the Arab television station Al-Arabiya was beaten by masked men and hospitalised.
The station's offices in the West Bank town of Ramallah were attacked last September by masked men claiming to belong to the Al-Aqsa Martyrs' Brigades, a radical offshoot of Arafat's mainstream Fatah party.
Palestinian journalists in the Gaza Strip staged a one-day strike on February 9 to protest against the attacks against them.

Another article, which makes it clear that the gunmen were Palestinians. I hope the audience here notices something very clear in this thread. Despite the obvious wrong doing of Palestinians here, even against their own, These two (TWBR, Anti-zionist) are so quick to blame the Israelis, even when all logic says otherwise.
Since when do undercover soldiers walk around without a Shirt, an obviously home made ski mask, and a BLADE?
The second picture is clearly a picture of Palestinians fighting.
The fact that I cannot find your captions at ANY of thier soucres, only shows me that they're fake.
You guys only continue to tarnish your own credibility | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: antizionist2004 | | Hey - I didn't publish the pictures! If they are fake or nonsense or what ever you claim, then TWBR is a fool !! However, judging on Israel's past actions it wouldn't surprise me in the least if them pictures were genuine.
And who cares if it's source is Al-Jazeera? (Hell, I don't even know the source yet, but knowing TWBR it's bound to be A-J lol) | | Reply To this Message

Lol, gives me an article, which is alike the one he posted, i dont see anywhere that it says that the Masked Gunmen where Palestinians, im sorry, but i dont see it.

Now your questioning it, after showing you pictures of them beating up Palestinians.
The second picture is clearly a picture of Palestinians fighting.
Oh yea, nice excuse

What makes you sure that your claims are not fake?

The article clearly mentions the internal problems within the Palestinian society. Go ahead, live in your fantasy land and assume "under cover" IDF Killed this man. But the media and the rest of the world see it for what it is. And don't forget, your accusation STILL has no proof, or backing.

I'm not questioning it, im tearing it apart like cheap chinese toy. Undercover Agents genereally wear shirts, have professional ski masks, not towels (hmmm, I see a lot of Palestinians with towels!), and DONT use BLADES.
And then I completely owned your False propaganda by showing you that those captions are completely FAKE.
Eyal Warshavsky did NOT write those captions. They are NOT AP Photos.
Are we clear?

| Posted by: TWBR | | Oh yea, undercover agents will wear really nice shirts, professional clothing, and a real weapons, since the whole reason of being undercover is to blend in with the Palestinians.
And since your links dont prove that Palestinians are behind this killing im not going to belive it, it didnt even say whose behind this, Just masked men, it could be Palestinians,Israelis, Egyptians, French, who knows? | | Reply To this Message

Well, generally, yes.
Those people could be agents;
But that really doesn't make a difference. Even if they were, it does little to prove that the gunmen who killed this Palestinian journalist were Israeli. You have to look into who was killed. A columnist close to Arafat, who clearly wrote some controversial articles, was killed. Neither Arafat, or the PA suspect it was the IDF. If they did, they would have said something.
But I guess you're right - we don't know who really did it. I just really hate it when people avoid basic evidence and immediately jump to baseless conspiracy theories.

TWBR, I think you're most probably wrong here. Palestinian journalist are being killed because of their publishings. Some are not publishing "Israel the demon occupationists" and are publishing reports that does not show the PA and other factions in favorable light.
The PA has ordered some of them to skew their reports or face the consequence. A journalist that once tried to cover Palestinian violence posted this in her article.
Weekly Standard (January 1, 2001): "Take the photos the militiamen want and you are generally fine, even helpfully ushered around; take pictures that show Palestinians in roles other than victim, and things can get nasty quite fast."
Many western journalists have been beaten for trying to photograph and report on events in Palestinian lands.
You have to ask yourself TW, why would anyone do this? Who has the most to gain? Israel certainly cannot influence Palestinian media. For years they report anti-Israel news. And if they were reporting favorable Israel news, then why bother killing them? So why would Israel suddenly kill Palestinian journalists?
Anything is a possibility and there are no absolutes in life. However, I think it's far fetched to believe that Israel is behind this.
It does also appear TW, that you are in some sort of denial or prejudice concerning Israel and Palestinians. You believe that Israel is behind practically every negative event in Palestinian lands. I suppose this is much to do because of your parents. I've even heard some Arabs claim Israel is behind the bombings in Iraq, and are fighting along side of the US there.
Maybe TW you will never be able to view events as they really are due to your influences. This isn't to say that Israel is right so don't go on a tangent here
Just know that sometimes in order to see a picture clearly you have to step back and view it from a distance rather than up close. | | Reply To this Message

| Posted by: TWBR | | But look, according to the article he gave me it just said Gunmen, so how should we know if they are Palestinian or Israelis? But yea you do have a point, i agree with you there, but dont deny that Israel doesnt kill journalists. | | Reply To this Message

| In more than three years of fighting, Israel has attacked and destroyed the headquarters and infrastructure of many branches of the official Palestinian security forces. In most places, the uniformed men barely function. In some cases, the security forces are active in militant activities. |
People complain that the Palestinians can't control the terrorists, yet Israel has done significant damage to the security forces that might have been able to accomplish that...
Yes, the Yahoo link does support your contention that Palestinians killed the reporter. And yes, TW's photos were from an Arab source. While the first two photos were fairly arguable, in the last one the kid definitely appears to be Palestinian, the guy with the nose I mean mask appears to be Israeli, and they both are wearing shirts. Sadly in that one, while the kid doesn't look happy the guy doesn't seem to be particularly abusive.
Merkava, TW has a good point about "undercover" operatives. Their function is to blend in, why wouldn't they dress, and arm themselves, just like the people they are trying to blend in with?
TW, Oneofpeace offers very good advice. Step back a little bit, so you can see more of the picture. I'd suggest Merkava do the same but that seems to be a hopeless cause. | | Reply To this Message
