Does someone know what the accatual difference between the 2 are? I'm not quite sure but my guess after reding the LOTR and the hobbit is that goblins are creatures that are evil but are not influenced by suron directly and Orcs are the oppsite. They are evil creatures that are under the influence of Suron and do his bidding.

Goblins are another name for the smaller Orcs that dwell in the Misty Mountains.

This is a quote from Arda:

quote:
A name for Orcs, and especially the smaller kinds that infested the Misty and the Grey Mountains in the later Third Age, and had their capital at Mount Gundabad.
Is there a difference between an 'Orc' and a 'Goblin'? The following quote from the foreword to The Hobbit sheds some light on this: "[The word 'Orc'] occurs in one or two places but is usually translated goblin (or hobgoblin for the larger kinds)."(Hence the statement above; 'especially the smaller kinds'). This entry concentrates on the goblins of the Grey and Misty Mountains simply because it is these Orcs that Tolkien most frequently refers to by the term 'goblin'.
The word 'goblin' is also used occasionally and indiscriminately in The Lord of the Rings; it never occurs in the The Silmarillion.

Yay! Finally, I never could figure out the difference either snunka...And the Urak Hai are the ones that are under the power of Saruman? Right? I'm always been confused with the three

Uruk-hai are the cross breeds of orcs and goblin men (whatever they are) goblins and orcs are one in the same, with goblins coming to represent the orcs of the Misty Mountains.

So do they all look really similar? Is there a way you can tell them apart? Because I certainly can't seem too!

Both Uruk hai and goblins were used in the siege of Minas Tirith but only Uruk Hai were use in Helms deep

Hey you might wanna check on that tiger. I'm pretty sure that i read that they're were normal orcs at Helms Deep too. It's been awhile since i've read that part though, so i'm probably wrong.

If I remember correctly the sun wasn't blocked out for Helms Depp but the orc didn't fear its gaze. The only orc that don't fear the sun are the Uruk-Hai.

If I remember rightly, helm's deep was at night, and it was raining. So yes the sun wasn't blocked out becasue it wasn't there. I'll check on it.

Also Helms deep went for five days, if you go by the book.
